Oooh... With the mushrooms holder you could probably just pick up a cheap little glass candle holder from your local Goodwill for a dollar and use it as a base/frame for the sculpture that way you get the weight (and some easy bulk) too

Love what you made! And the scull base might’ve burned if you used tin foil under it while baking, I know a lot of polymer clay artists use printer paper to place the clay on while it’s in the oven ☺️

@@ystreetstudio Actually you'll have to Google what kind but poly fill (not paper) is what you use under stuff so you don't have flat or misshapen parts, and it burned because you bake it 15 minutes for every quarter inch of thickness so I think you might have had a hotspot or baked too long, get an oven thermometer because ovens are not exact on temperature and foil is good for a base but it will leave texture on the inside, just don't ball it too tight or you'll break your sculpt taking it out

Very cool! I love polymer clay, been working with it for 10 years on and off and there’s really so much you can do with it. Appreciate the creativity with those gift ideas and they really came out awesome, especially the mushroom candle holder!

New subscriber! I'm always looking for polymer clay artists. These ideas were fabulous! You could have used wire for stability and strength in the mushrooms stems. I try and use it when I can. For a super flexible clay that is strong and you can make thin things try Cosclay 🤗 can't wait to take a dive into your other videos!

Besides using the skull design for a lot of other things, you could also do different sculptures that were mounted. Like, what about a really detailed flower? Or a butterfly. I think the essence of this is the 3 dimensional aspect when you mount it. OR-- you could design a flat model and put little hooks at the bottom to make a key holder or a leash holder (think dogs), sort of like a small version of a coat rack. ??
Also, I loved the mushroom candle holder. But the tree stump alone looked really neat, too. Or, if you want to do something for Christmas, you could make them in the shape of a bunch of little Christmas trees, standing around the candle, maybe poking holes (or star-shapes?) through it so the lite of the candle peeps through. ?? How does that sound?
Just off the top of my head, other good gift ideas would be personalized key chains -- even something simple, like an initial or using molds for their favorite animal would be so neat. I love boxes so here come my box-like ideas: A phone stand, a pencil/what-not holder, a jewelry box, change jar.... the list is endless.
I get tons of ideas. I only wish I had the energy to try them all.

@@ystreetstudio Hi! Follow up. I went with the idea of making the tree stump into a candle holder and did one for a Christmas present. Now I'm hooked on polymer. LOL! Didn't have much time to do anything else before Christmas (cookies are a standard and I just finished those last Thursday.) But I hope to do some more polymer sculptures next year. We'll see. (If you like, look me up on Facebook where I posted pics of my candle holder.. and my cookies.)

I used to be an OTR trucker and my channel content was more about trucking , of course. But I am finally off the road and now I have the time to indulge in my favorite creative endeavors. I will enjoy seeing your projects, you are naturally gifted and talented!! Merry Christmas to you and your family! ♡

I use sculpt 3 and org to make what I call blanks. What these are is something I need multiples of. For example I like to make food items. I would sculpt the cupcakes base and make a mold of it.

I’m not sure if you know this but many glues are not compatible with polymer clay, and I’ve heard e6000 is one of them. E6000 is already not the best for plastics, and polymer clay is literally plastic. Before baking, clay can “melt” certain types of solid plastic if you leave it sitting on it long enough. Many glazes and paints (such as spray paint) end up sticky over time for the same reason. I cant explain the chemistry, but I kind of have given up on glue with clay. Physical attachment is best for longevity. You gotta get creative, but it’s worth it imo.
(Acrylic paint is totally safe with polymer clay)
Liquid sculpey would be a better solution, I think PVA glue *might* work (like white Elmer’s glue, for example.
If I made the ring I’d probably make and bake the ring band, making it slightly bigger and then wrapping the stone with fresh clay, place it on the band and blend fresh clay going behind the band onto the wrapped gem to secure it.

A little research go along way. Your polymer clay ring will not last it is not strong enough and how thin you made it it will definitely break all glues fail on polymer clay including E 6000 so at some point your stove will fall off. Rust oleum spray paint will eventually get all sticky may take a week or a month but as it sits on the polymer clay it will slowly react and become a sticky mess.
