I have smoked this two tobaccos too. I've liked the Swan more than the bullitt. But this is online my opinion.

Wonderful video Mark. The natural rock formation and use as fortification remind when i was a kid in WV mountains. Several outcropping in country area I was raised. We boys imagined were fortification as we determineds sides and struture to the game and rules if any. There is actually a quarry there now about 2 miles from where I lived. Can't wait for next history and tobacco lesson. Take care.

Totally captivating and compelling...your students are so lucky to study with such a teacher. I love trying HU tobaccos and a number of their blends have found a permanent place in my rotation...Louisiana Broken Flake and Directors Cut most notably....I would like to try the Bullet but the Swan not so much as I struggle with Cyprian Latakia. Great video as usual. In swedish mines that has that type of tunnels as a shortcut they are called stollgång, I think that stoll is from the germanic language-branch (even swedish is there) but I think it’s a german word because we doesn’t have stoll as a word, and we imported many iron and mining guys from germany.
One of my ancestor came from Munster in Westfalen to sweden in 1580, he was a blacksmith-specialist. We had the raw-material, but wasn’t to good to produce large amounts and good quality iron out of it.
...yeah...very interesting! The German word for that is "Stollengang"...so you're probably right. Most of these words have their orgigin in late medieval times, when the miners spread all over Europe... So, your family history is really a fabulous example for what happened during this phase.

I never bought in to a "tobacco for the rest of your life," because our modern taste just seems to need variety. Until last year when I found G.L. Pease Caravan. I can smoke that just about any time as long as I have a cup of tea and it will be great. It might just be a tobacco for the rest of my life. I will keep you posted haha.

One must wonder what their lives were like, what gods they worshipped and customs they observed. Can’t believe there was never an archeological excavation done there. Perhaps it is nice to leave some mystery, but I can’t help but wonder. Great video as always, my friend!

Well...what an amazing place, I could spend hours up there...would like to have some digging tools with me as well...could find some interesting things.
A mostly untouched ancient site in Northern Germany....what could be better?
Were there any signs of burial mounds around? Unfortunately any markings on the sandstone would have been long eroded.
Was that a swan on the sign outside the tunnel entrance?

That was interesting and some place that doesn't have two feet of snow. Hello from New Hampshire U.S.A.
That Bullet sounds fascinating, as far as the legality of the Havana ingredient, I doubt that the U.S. authorities would object to a small amount of Cuban leaf in there. Even though Havana cigars are still illegal to sell at retail in the U.S. many of my cigar customers often order Cuban cigars from offshore with no legal consequences. I think the enforcement arm for this stuff is virtually non existent. Plus, as a retired attorney I would argue that a small amount of Havana cigar leaf in a large blend of other tobaccos would not qualify for the embargo which is mainly to prohibit products created in Cuba from U.S. entry, an old and archaic law to be sure dating back to 1962 when John Kennedy slapped the embargo on during those heady days of the cold war. JFK was an avid cigar smoker and enjoyed Romeo y Julieta Havana panatelas so the day before he signed the embargo he directed his press secretary, Pierre Salinger to go to every cigar store in Washington D.C. and buy as many of those cigars as he could lay his hands on for JFK's personal humidor. Unfortunately we lost JFK to the assassin's bullet the following November so I am sure he never got to enjoy the majority of those cigars. Keep puffin.

History and archeology fit perfectly with pipe smoking 😊 Tremendous amounts of understanding and knowledge can often only be obtained by digging. Are perhaps archeological excavations at these sites prohibited by law? 🤔 Lovely forest and interesting at the mine 😊

Well... the first one is a black meerschaum... the second an ali birinci... both with custom built stems. If you're looking for something like that, I recommend, you just take a look at the Black Meerschaum website and give em an email.... they know what to do...

I've never met a German from Germany, I find it interesting that his accent sounds like a mix match of British and American English. Like he learned it from both groups. Not poking fun it's just interesting to me how that works. It sounds almost nothing like the Pennsylvania Dutch accent where I'm from.

I enjoy your history lectures. And I share your distrust of overly flowery and fruity descriptions of tobacco. If they devote this much time to producing marketing flannel, they may have skimped on the time in took to design the blend.

Well...you know...I don't know about Austria...but here in Germany my generation started school either with a Geha or a Pelikan...you may already have an idea... Always sticked to being a "Pelikan-boy"...lol

Beside my other, too expensive pens 😂 I have already my Pelikan in blue from these days. And in the age of 16, my father, detecting that I was smoking, gave me my first pipe. A beautiful, outstanding nice shining brown red Butz Choqu. - and I never stopped pipe smoking. Therfore, one have to be careful, what you plant in a young mens heart. 😂😂😂

It is good to hear that other people also use a fountain pen.I thought people like us in this modern times are not existent. I started in the school with a blue Pelican too, but after the University I've bought me a Montblanc Masterpiece from the limited Author Edition a wonderful Edgar Alan Poe (one of my favourite author's). with a gold raven on the feather. I have it every day in my jacket and use it every day. You will don't believe it, but here in Spain isn't aloud to use a fountain pen in school! We've bought our daughter a Pelican too, but she can't use it. It is a tragedy of this modern times.

Great video! I have to ask since you seem to be some sort of meerschaum specialist. Do you meers ever get to hot to handle? I recently bought an altinay meerschaum (9mm) which is a great smoker but it definately gets warmer than my briar pipes when smoked. Can this be avoided by thicker walls (mine has pretty thin walls) and does meers get even more warm on a warm weather?
It also has a polyester resin stem, do you happen to know anything about that stem material? Sory for all this question, i totally understand if you don´t have the time to answer them :D
