You saying, "If Dragon Age Veil Guard winds uo having bad combat that I dint enjoy that will be the 4th Dragon Age game with bad combat that I didn't enjoy.", In the context of you loving these games is a really great nuance. Games are so much more than one system.

Its combat definitely looks better than inquisition. Inquisition had the worst combat In any rpg imo. I'd put final fantasy 1, and pokemon games even above it.

@@shblade5984 It's meant from the start as a trilogy, they just didn't know whether they would succeed so they didn't talk much about it. But as a guy who lives about 1hour drive from where KCD 1 and 2 take place, I can assure you it all leads to a huge climax in rising to the Hussite wars, one of the biggest and most epic periods in Czech history. First KCD was just a setting. 2nd will be in Kutna Hora, which was the biggest and richest city at the time besides Prague. I would bet 3rd will end in Prague during Jan Hus's speeches against the church and meeting Jan Zizka, who was kind of badass and a war hero. :)

I really appreciated your monologue about Dragon Age Origins. As someone who’s not that excited about Veilguard really at all, it’s easy to put Origins on the pedestal and act like it was ever this Baldur’s Gate / Wrath of the Rightcheous level CRPG when in reality it was much more simple gameplay.
But the world building with the Mages and class struggle angle of the story is the real draw

Also doesn't try to compensate for negative perception trends by over-enthusiasm, excusing, nor pumping.
And I say that as someone who has a strong no-time-for-nonsense bias. (Which is very useful since I need to eliminate games from the Possibly list. Bonus: no money for nonsense I don't like. Nonsense is subjective and it's my money).
So this channel also gives me a chance to reconsider my filter/ignore/ain't-no-one-got-time-for-that view of certain high profile games.

It's not getting as much exposure as some other releases are (like DA: Veilguard and Avowed), but that actually might be a good thing. It might be able to sneak up and take the gaming world by storm. Finally someone says it about Dragon Age Origins. It's a great game but this reframing that it's a once in a lifetime crpg is so wrong. It's not particularly tactical either.
I also agree that I've never really liked the combat in the dragon age games. I play them for the story, the characters and the insanely detailed lore. Thedas is one of the best designed setting in fiction, let alone games.
After 15 years of the combat just not being super fun, I'm all in on them changing up the formula. Especially since this kind of action RPG is what put Bioware on the map basically.
Hopefully this is Bioware refining down to just what they do best, and the early previews from big sites have all come away saying this is great so far. Has me so excited to play it myself.

I played POE, and a little of POE2 (it just didn't click like the first one), so I'm cautiously optimistic. But if we're talking about Obsidian games, I'm actually looking forward to The Outer Worlds 2 (whenever that comes out); and I'd LOVE it if they made a Tyranny 2 (my favorite Obsidian game by far).
But, specifically in regards to you're list, I'd say DA:V: loved the series and am fine with the ever-changing style(s). I never got into KCD, even though I backed the game on Kickstarter (man did that take a long time to come out). May give KCD another try to see if I'd be interested in the second.

My biggest gripe with KCD was the jank involved in taking on multiple opponents at the same time, which the story liked to throw at you many times. It's doable when you know what you're doing, but it just wasn't fun. If they can retain everything else that made that game great but do something to address that one aspect to make it better, I'll be beyond happy with it.

I agree with this. I saw some people tried to say “well, fighting multiple people in real life is hard so it makes sense!” but that’s an awful excuse for not being able to snap between targets with the awful lock on. Also, the hits in the game rarely seemed to have that impact/crunch. I’m not saying it needs to be Mordhau but still i need a bit more impacts.

While I appreciate that in real life, a group of 6 peasants with makeshift polearms would absolutely kill a highly trained knight in real life, I agree that the lockon is absolutely terrible and the thing that bothers me the most is how every single enemy down to peasants and bandits are absolute masters at defense. They will block 90% of your attacks and do unblockable counterattacks over and over. For the love of God, I'm max level and unable to just bash through the most average of enemies lol
The enemies being such defensive masters is why I wound up using my bow for almost every encounter. Either the AI straight bugs out and the enemy will eat arrows while standing still, or you can easily just backpedal and shoot arrows as they keep flinching from getting hit

I'm quite optimistic about New Arc Line.
I don't know what's gotten hold of me, but I'm hyped.
Fingers crossed they capture what made me love the concept of pretty much every steampunk magic setting I've come across.
Arcanum I loved. I genuinely spent a decade and a half trying to find it, because I had a demo I think and definitely read an article on it but didn't catch the game on release somehow... so all I remembered was the visuals and concept from that magazine article.
I think what made Dragon Age feel like a proper RPG for me was that it at least felt like character choices made an impact, on the base story, on how you play, on what happens to the characters and the world... It didn't feel like a set hero and their party going through a bunch of entirely predetermined levels/events.
That's the thing we've lost with each release. Despite the way Inquisition was supposed to play.
This one, just doesn't look like they even care about that anymore. It LOOKS like another bland linear action game that just happens to be set in the Dragon Age universe. It's like a scaled up mobile game, but one of those ones that has very little replayability after the main story's run through once. I have zero hype. Inquisition at least gave me hype.
Oddly, that's what I didn't like about Bloodlines (I liked it, just less than most fans). It felt like a videogame compared to Redemption which felt more like the telling of a tabletop campaign in videogame form, despite really being far more linear (I think a ttRPG setting of WoD's magnitude released in 2000 would have to tie you down to a specific character and story to translate enough depth to the virtual world). I'm a big WoD geek, by the way... que me bragging about the 2/3" box of text in the V20 book I wrote. 😎
I don't like what Paradox have done with the whole setting of WoD. They've tried to add CoD mechanics to every game just to say CoD wasn't a waste of money and writing credits. CoD was a massive failure, they should just let it go and give us the games we love, from the writers we love, in the setting we love... I'm not a purist, change is inevitable, most edition releases I loved, I'm just anti "chuck stuff in that destroys what makes it so great and take out the remainder of what makes it so great". Bloodlines 2 is almost certainly going to be a continuation of this pattern... pretty, easy access, bland mulch, plus stupid mechanics that just make the experience less fun for anyone who likes depth or immersion.

The combat in DA Veilguard doesn't matter to me so much as long as the story and the companions are good, the only reason I'm not as hyped for Avowed is they chose to not add companion romance.

Saying DA: Origins has lackluster combat and tactics is probably the first time I've disagreed with an opinion of yours.
Would absolutely agree with DA2 and while Inquisition did try to find that happy middle ground between Origins and 2, it's also no where near the quality of combat and tactical options in Origins.

I feel the same way about Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Really loved the first one, turning Henry from a twat to a killing machine with heavy armor, also the ambience and the stories.
As you I also didn't like the ending, it felt forced and way too abrupt, pretty much during the climax of obtaining revenge for Henry's adoptive father. I mean, you can't even technically complete the "main quest" before the credits roll.

It's DLC rather than a new game (although likely a very hefty DLC), but I'm looking forward to Shadow of the Erdtree for Elden Ring.
Also, I'm looking forward to the game with the insane name, Metaphor: ReFantazio. I like the Persona games a lot and Persona 5 was a great iterative sequel. MR seems like its taking a lot of those sensibilities and applying them to a whole new setting and reworking the central hook (the personas).
There are other announced games that I have some interest in but I'm not sure which ones I'll end up playing and they'll have to compete with Skald: Against the Black Priory when I get around to that.

Gundam Breaker 4. Megaton Mushashi Wired is an excellent type of that sort of game, but it lacked some features the original, numbered, Gundam Breakers did. Most especially in the form of Bits, Funnels, and Options, I.E. automatic guns that hit things around you, which makes for a fun build in the world.
Better, it WAS a serious story(up until Season 3 which was VERY odd, like pulling Celestial Butterflies out of Hyperspace kind of odd), and thus, was a darker overall tone and play, rather than Gundam Breaker, which is literally kids(and adults) driving RC Gundams against each other in simulated environments as a game.
This one looks to be a return to form too, as New Gundam Breaker was a MOBA, and designed as such, but everything about this one looks like it does all the good stuff, from letting you customize completely, including swapping moves, to letting you build some killer machines.
Next is Metaphor:reFantazio from Atlus. It looks like a new franchise using the same engine as Devil Survivor and STMV. That is a good thing, as Devil Survivors problem was more in how it expected you to play both games to understand its story(When game 1 was not multiplatform and didn't do well), and while I enjoy SMTV and its updated version, I can't say either has a great story, whereas this one looks good.
And of course, Cat Quest III. The first 2 are ADORABLE action RPGs with a surprising amount of things to do and numbers to make go up, which is always nice, but also has had an overarching plot, which I'm curious to see where it goes. Obviously we are not going to stop the A-paw-colypse from coming, but we SHOULD be able to do something about it when it arrives, as we HAVE the King's Blade, and it sounds like we're claiming the Northern Star in this one. That leaves on artifact to go, and then we can poke the giant eyeball out with a stick and call it good.

There IS substantial reasons to be mad or at least concerned looking at the direction and the people behind the game ( DA doesnt have a good track record in recent memory) and its fair to hold judgment until its released but its just copium.

I do hope that they find their fans. I know that I'll not be one of them, because it have elements that I didn't liked in the previous games plus a little bit more comittee decisions on top.
And the reason people are already mad is called: pattern recognition. They already saw this game a more than a dozen times, and in the rarer cases they`re where wrong.

Its gonna be one of the best games of 2024 (People who like DA will buy and play DA nonetheless) I remember the backlash around Assassins Creed Shadows just because of shitty reasons, instead of arguing what really matter which is the insane price of videogames! Not worried because after AC and DA probably in the next months it really another videogame backlash... I'm guessing Star Wars... no wonder why the gaming industry is the bad state that it is.

I really can't think of the word here, but I'm both excited, yet anxious for most of these titles. I really want them to be good (yes, even Veilguard*) but I'm kinda worried they are gunna struggle on launch and it's not really going to recover.
Bloodlines does worry me the most. Bloodlines looks like it's gone through development hell and I don't think it's going to come out well, which is a shame cause nearly all media for it looks pretty decent in my eyes. But this change in direction really worries a lot of people, I hope it's good but it's going to be fighting a lot of tough reviews I think.
*Thinking about it more, Veilguard might actually be okay, if the story still holds up. I don't mind gameplay being different from the other games, despite it being 4 times they've changed it up if everything else around it works out. I'm going to give it a fair chance for sure, but I suspect it's going to be reviewed bombed with the same thought track of "It's not Origins therefore it sucks, gg Bioware" which if it happens, will be a shame. I'd probably have to wait till a Mort review of it before I consider buying it early or waiting for a sale though.

Playing Dragon Age II or Inquisition on higher difficulties proves that they definitely still require a lot of tactics. The difference is the embracing of cross-class combos, non-mages becoming much more versatile and fun. A lot of games that are called "dumbed down" just need to be played on higher difficulties.
