As a blackburn fan and season ticket holder of 18 years previous to the Kean/venkys era,I just want to give some perspective of what was happening at the time through my eyes and through the eyes of I am sure many Blackburn fans at the club I love.
Previous 10 years before Kean Established premier league team.
Known to be one of the best run clubs in England great chairman etc. We overachieved with funds spent fanbase size of club.
Established top tier manager in Sam allardyce (regardless of football played he was a top manager for a club our size at the time)
Everything was good. Most Blackburn fans are not unrealistic enough to expect us stay in the top league forever, but the way it happened seemed totally corrupt for Blackburn fans and it still stinks today.
    After Venkys takeover
Pretty much immediate removal of manager.
Appoint guy nobody has ever heard of. Football agent being involved in all dealings at the club, including appointment of new manager.
All very well respected and longstanding staff at club forced to resign or forced out including John williams who is a blackburn legend and one of the main reasons we stayed in the prem so long.
Established good premier league players that had been with us a long time were not played and eventually replaced with inferior players for no apparent reason. Released from Their contracts in many cases and silenced as they never spoke of it.
Ryan nelson in particular springs to mind. Never played for ages established good premier league defender released from his contract then next week starts for spurs.
Imagine if your club is being sold out for a certain few individuals gain. I remember at the time being genuinely worried for its existence. What would you do if it was your club?
And most fans (me included) believed steve kean was complicit and involved in the very dodgy dealings of the time. His agent who got him the managers job (Jerome anderson) was undoubtledly involved in the demise and signed his own son ffs( Myles anderson) A guy who steve kean if i remember at the time called him the new Chris Smalling. A guy who was not good enough for Barrow and Exeter.
They were taking the piss. Lots of instances of steve kean talking absolute bull shit, just taking the piss. Do some research on it
There were lots of things going on at his time of the club that stank. And that bent t**t kean and his agent mate filled their own pockets and twisted the truth to put the blame on the fans.
There was no logical explanation as to what was going on from a football perspective, absolutely none
The media at the time instead of investigating what was really happening, just turned on the local fans protesting and basically laughed at us. I never protested because I did not think it would help but I understood their reasons for doing so. Why did the media never try to help??
Little Blackburn they don't matter. Maybe. They matter to me.
Jerome Anderson even got on sky sports and was asked very nice questions as to why he was the victim, instead of doing proper journalism. I don't remember any real blackburn fans being invited on to voice their opinion.
Sorry for the rant, brings back old memories

Excellent post mate, fellow roverite here. Orr is no saint, lets make that clear, he makes out here that he had some sort of dressing room authority which he didn't. Retiring at 31 tells you how good he and his career was.

    • @joshsweeney3362
      @joshsweeney3362 Před 2 lety +4

Well said. Orr is giving his perspective but I'm not sure everything he said is accurate. I think he is deliberately pulling the wool over people's eyes by blaming the fans for not knowing 'the truth'. We all knew the dark forces at work and Steve Kean's links to them... it's easier for Orr to paint a picture of taking the moral high ground but not sure how true it is.

As a Newcastle fan, part 1 was gold. Part 2 equally as good. Exactly the level of player / personality you want to see on the Pod. Opinionated, but relevant to the last 10-15 years of the game for majority of audience. Carved out a very respectable career, brutally honest about the game which shatters some illusions, some questionable decisions off the pitch (Google Bradley Orr and the Magna Carta).
Would love to know more about Watford court case and player it involved.
Prefer guests like Orr/Matt Mills/Matt Kilgallon/Craig Davies/Martin Allen over the likes of the bigger names Downing/Le Tiss/Jarvis for example.
    Great insight all round.

as a blackburn fan the atmosphere in the ground was so sad after the venkys came in and we were going down. I understand that watching blackburn means everything to the fans but they were so angry at what was happening at the club that it wasnt nice to go watch rovers was a really sad time. Hmm... so givet, samba, ryan Nelsen, salgado and Jason Roberts all got 'dropped' on the 2nd half of the relagation season. Samba, roberts, and salgado have all said it because the venkys didn't want them to influence the dressing room apparently and all rovers fans know about the influence of kean and the agency he was part of kentro. Kean dug his own grave. Yeah he shouldn't of been put in that position to deal with the decline of rovers but maybe he shouldn't of stabbed big Sam in the back. There's even a video of him slagging him off. Keans a cretin. Fair play to orr though seems a good professional. Just think there was a Web of disfunction from the venkys, to kentro (Jerome anderson) through the DnA of the club for them 1st 3 season of their ownership

    • @philiptomlinson8959
      @philiptomlinson8959 Před 2 lety +2

The reason for that was when they sacked Allardyce and installed Kean there was anger. Anderson nipped it in the bud by offering 1 year extensions to senior pros, Then before they kicked in and cost money Kean and him froze them out and forced them out. When you have an Agent and his partner agencies running the club it all becomes about commissions. Player turnover/contracts.sales/pay offs, he was offering them a large % of their contracts to leave, with Vs money. Then of course they'd need replacing. It was the biggest sting in modern day football. Club still suffers from it to this day, they ought to be jailed. Orr is a '#### but just making up his own story.

    Talking about agents and clubs
I have a friend who’s son was seen as the best player in the academy and wouldn’t let him play against the best clubs in case they lost him on the cheap and then a new coach came in that was more defensive and let him go, he was gutted and it took a lot to get his self esteem back
He has now gone to semi pro and is doing well so hopefully he will do a “jamie vardy” and be seen but he is now 10 years down the line
I still think that not everyone sees things how they are

Lost 2-0 at Palace, not 5-1. The Swansea game was 3-0 not 1-0 and Givet went to the press to categorically deny the rumours. We had one clean sheet in the period Orr claimed many more, we were not top of the league when he claimed and we had not been on a long unbeaten run before the Peterborough game. I never saw a cricket ball being launched and I never heard anyone at game say that happened. He completely ignores how Kean got the job in the first place, the many lies that landed Kean in court or the compensation he had to pay Allardyce. I don't personally hate Orr, for me he was just symptomatic of everything wrong at club that was rotten to the core thanks to a corrupt organisation tasked with running the club by extremely naive owners.

I was at that Wigan game & yes the atmosphere was absolute poison. I saw stewards being assaulted & fans threatening to storm the boardroom. We had 3 season tickets in our house back then. None of us have ever renewed.
The cork cricket ball was probably a reference to the Venkys interest in the IPL.

From the outside looking in it was made out that everything going on at Blackburn was Kean’s fault. So it’s refreshing to see another side to it, particularly important to note that he hadn’t actually played for Kean that long so didn’t seem to be one of kean’s men sticking up for him, more that his honest impartial opinion sticks up for Kean. If that makes sense.
On a similar note, Grant Holt was hung out to dry at Wigan by Uwe Rosler and when Grant was on here he gave his story which was completely different.

As a Blackburn fan the understanding goes both ways how Steve Kean manufactured his way into the managers job was the main antagonist against him, I agree Shevie Singh was a disaster that was what proved to us Venkys havent got a clue how to run a club. I apologise to Bradley about the abuse he sufferd it wasnt right but so many have sufferd at hitting out at fans, yeah we didnt know the whole story, So we need people like Bradley to open the can of worms and tell how it is.

@@Andy-kg9ud he was there when Jerome Anderson was pulling the strings behind the scenes, the same person who caused the mess the club’s still recovering from today. He was there when Anderson was advising Kean not to play certain players, and Kean played a massive part in setting the narrative which Orr still strangely backs him for

The centre back's Givet. The midfielder, if I had to guess, was Formica. He only played 45 mins that day and you'd imagine it was someone that had played half a game. Wasn't known for running around here, there and everywhere either

I'm not a Blackburn fan, nor am I a fan of any club Bradley Orr has ever played for, however he comes across as a really good guy and one of the few players who actually gave a shit about Rovers at that time but a bit surprised to read so many Blackburn fans in the comments with some really awful opinions about him, sounds like he played through injury to cover the slack of 'good' players who couldn't be arsed with it, as a Stockport fan I know how hard it is to hear negative things about your club and your fanbase but just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not true. Fans see a tiny bit of the real picture, he played through it. I believe every word he says.

He stood there in front of the cameras after we'd been relegated and basically tried to blame fans. He was defending the tossers who'd ruined our club mins after the game had finished on a night he should have keep his big mouth shut. He got a new contract not long after despite being shite, says it all. You as a football fan especially after what your team has been through should understand the depth of feeling on things like this. These goons pass through our clubs, earn shit loads, contribute nothing then have the nerve to stand there and tell us what we should think ? Guy is a disgrace he should hand his 4 year pay off back.
