Clearly this is a huge problem. Instead of ASUS making a video about how to work your way around it - how about fixing it permanently in the BIOS?
Hi
DeadCertainty,
May I have the model name of your motherboard, the bios version and more details about the question? What is the issue and how does it occur again?
@@asus_support I'm on my bios and I can't see the Either my drive or my windows USB drive. The model of the board is PRIME X570-PRO Version 4010.
Hi @@azaelgarza1871
Do you mean there are no hard drive and windows USB drive in the storage information, boot menu or boot option? Did it occur after any settings or components changed?
@@asus_support Hi asus, I installed today a crucial p5 1tb 2280 m.2 nvme ssd, but for some reason, it's just not detected. Yes i have installed it in the proper m.2 slot, pcie3, nothing, tried removing all the sata drives connected, nothing, CSM mode is enabled, secure boot is disabled. PCIe mode just won't show up, and on nvme devices it just shows "no nvme devices found". I read some guides around and a guy was saying: if windows doesn't put a EFI boot sector partition, the nvme won't be visible".But how do i even try to put a UEFI partition on there if the drive it's not even visible? Yes the BIOS is updated too. Weird thing tho, it gets heated up like i'm reading/writing from there. CPU is i7-10700. motherboard: rog strix B560-F so i excluded pcie4 because of my CPU. it only displays SATA and AHCI, nvme "devices not found". Can't access PCIe modes as well. in PCH storage config, no M.2 option is displayed, nor the M.2 & SATA mode option.
Hi @@fab_81
Is the motherboard ROG STRIX B560-F GAMING WIFI and the bios version 1017?
Do you install the m.2 nvme ssd in M.2_1, M.2_2 or M.2_3 slot? All of them are not detected? Have you restored bios to default settings and tried other m.2 nvme ssd?
This video had multiple steps/solutions to the problem. My personal issue was fixed when I enabled the CSM setting in the BIOS. More helpful than I was expecting considering every person has unique issues with computers
Did it take a long time for you too?
Your solution is also worked for me, thank you so much!
thank you
Thank you- updated my bios on my b550i board and couldn’t get the drives into the bootable menu. Fixed my problem- have saved this video for future updates .
Very nice and glad to see you're still answering people. Let's see at what depth you can go.
I own an ASUS Z170-A i bought in 2015 and a Western Digital WDS256G1X0C-00ENX0 M2 SSD NVMe disk. The BIOS version model is 3802 which is the very last from 2018/04/27.
Absolutely nothing related to NVMe disk on the EZ BIOS panel. It states only about SATA Information. Neither there's any setting for NVMe in advanced mode. I really never could get reliable explanations back in the years on ASUS forums. And i finally ended up with this settings into Advanced\Onboard Devices Configuration :
[M.2] SATA mode will be switched to M.2. SATA Express can only support PCIE devices
[SATA EXpress] SATA mode will be switched to SATA Express. M.2 can only support PCIE devices.
I've selected [SATA EXpress] and the disk works using this setting.
But since this time, I never been able to figure out if it's the good setting and moreover, why this ASUS Z170-A motherboard using a BIOS version 3802 do not display anything related to NVMe devices...
Please have you any answer? Best regards and thank you.
Hi
Kemoi Même,
I'm afraid for the old models (ex: TUF B450-PLUS GAMING), which use PCIE Mode M.2 SSD(including: NVME M.2), information of hard disk or SSD doesn't show in Storage Information in BIOS EZ Mode due to the framework of the BIOS.
@@asus_support Thank you for answering, i really appreciated. But in the case of "older" motherboards, what is the correct setting in BIOS when adding an M2 NVMe drive? Since 2015, ASUS hasn't made it clear on this matter. You could also have done a little BIOS update for your "old" customers. Without any nastiness, that's a bit of what we can blame you for, lack of clarity and lack of updates. And that's so sad, because I'm not sure you understand. Thank you again and have a good day.
The CSM method helped me a lot!!!
Thank u 🙏
Thanks a lot...
Nothing to write more!🙏❤️👍
Thanks. Resetting the bios to default settings enabled all my sata ports.
My motherboard could find the hard drive but wouldn't do anything else with it. This vid was EXTREMELY helpful thankyou so much
For anyone with a B450-M, when you have an M2 installed, SATA ports 5 and 6 are not available anymore (the 2 SATA ports on the side). Try another SATA port at the bottom. In my case the port 3 was not working so I had to use the port 4 instead. Enjoy 😉
Thank you so much, you saved my life
@@cinerod Your welcome! I struggled and searched for hours to make the motherboard working with an M.2 and a SSD - I thought the mobo was defective. So I wanted to share this solution to help other people!
Thank you! Pays to read the users guide haha.
thank you was looking for a fix for 30 mins and went to youtube comments and found one. kinda dumb that the sata ports disable was wondering why my ssd with OS wasnt being detected. (b350 mobo)

this was a great help. I updated the bios on my ASUS TUF gaming B550 m-Plus and suddenly its drives could be seen, but not used. I followed your quick and easy instructions starting @2:01 to enable CSM in BIOS Settings and it fixed the problem without me having to do anything else. Thanks for the video.
+1 for this method 👍🏾
which CPU you use in Asus TUF Gaming b550m-plus ???? out of box AMD 5000 series support for ex. AMD Ryzen 5600x ????
@@ninefame803 5600x
@@xiaowei1 AMD 5600x CPU need BIOS update or work fine out of box with Asus TUF Gaming b550m-plus ??? bcuz i am planning to BUY :)
@@ninefame803 They should work just fine out of the box. it was just a really odd situation that I encountered, and I suspect not the norm. That was 9 months ago now. The mainboard's internal software has also had a lot of time to mature, and should already come with an updated bios's (there have been a couple of updated bios's since I got mine).
That said, if you encounter the same problem, you already know how to fix it 🙂
After updating my bios to latest version, my SSD’s were removed from my boot order. I couldn’t get anything else to work but enabling CSM in Bios did the trick thanks ❤
Worked for me 2. X570 plus wifi here
Followed your instructions to the letter . The end result was corroded sata cables .
Thank you . I overlooked the cables for hours
I'm glad this is here. This has been a big help.
For anyone with a b550-f gaming wifi, if you have m.2 in your build, you should plug in the sata ports in the top ones, or at least don’t use the bottom ones, its a little more specific but it could help you deduce your problem a little quicker, ;)
Yo tengo mi m.2 en el pcie 3 (en el de abajo) será por eso que no lo detecta?
Dunno who you are, but you are a huge help. I have a B550-PLUS wifi and your tip helped. 10/10 thank you sir
What about a B450?
Thanks man, you saved me!

This guide finally put my 12-hour journey of replacing my motherboard, cpu, and psu to rest. Nothing was working and my ssd + hdd weren't being detected in the bios.
I replaced the sata cable for my hdd, followed the steps up to enabling the CMS, and it worked! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much! My drive worked properly!
It was the CMS needing to be enabled for me! Thanks!
enabling CSM helped me to see my nvme samsung on boot priority, thanks a lot!
same here.. but mine M.2 is Inland but it finally sees it in the boot menu.. YAAA!!
Same here. Enabling CSM worked for me. Phew!
Same
similar, for me it was an old hard drive
The CSM enabling helped! Worked like a charm only thing that worked!!
Like me bro
Same the amount of joy I had when it works was immeasurable!
The csm method helped a lot thanks I had an hhd from my pc that used and I bought an asus motherboard cause my other usb cables wasn’t working so this helped alot
My SSD in the M2.2 slot has a heat sink and it‘s therefore less flexibel. I had to try different angles until it was recognized because it is installed on the back of my motherboard. In the first slot, it is immediately recognized without problems. But now, that I have installed it with a lot trial and error, it works as it should.
Going to add my fix here just in case.
I saw another comment that pointed out that if you use an M.2 drive in the slot under the cover, you can't use the SATA ports on the right side of the mobo (I think it's SATA6).
I moved my connections from there to the ones at the very bottom of the board, and it worked right away. I should have read the manual I guess!
Yes it says in the manual but is easy to miss.
CMS worked for me, I was upgrading from 2013 hardware, so I’ll need to see about installing a new OS or something
Same I literally had 2006 hardware
Thanks asus fixxed a big issue I have had with your motherboards since me and my brother own a rog strix board will save me lots of time next time
After hours of troubleshooting, This Video Did The trick!!!! Thank You ASUS!!!

HOW TF AM I SUPOSSED TO DOWNLOAD WITHOUT HDD XD
Hi
Sjoerd Brouwers,
If you mean download bios file, please use another pc or laptop devices to download the files.
I’m glad this video was here but my solution was simple and in my face the entire time. I keep forgetting that the drive will not show up at the top where the drives are. You have to go to where the drives are at the bottom page on disk management and scroll down then find drives that says “unallocated” and then right click and create a new simple volume.
Thank you buddy no one's help me in this situation but your video is help me... Thanks a lot brother ☺️
It's called switch to another brand and all your Asus problems disappear.

Thank you this helps.
Also this shouldn’t have been a problem and should’ve been fixed in a BIOS update @asus
Thank you very much friend you best luck to you
did the job, thank you
This helped, I have a new ASUS X570-Pro TUF Gaming WiFi AMD AM4 ATX Motherboard and updated the bios to 4002 version from three thousand something. After this the Motherboard would not find or see the Samsung 960 SSD (SATA not M.2). I was stumped, it was not in the boot menu even though it showed up as a drive in the Motherboard. Once I enabled CSM (I had a Nvidia GeoForce 1060 graphics card already installed), I was able too the Samsung 960 SSD in the boot menu (as well as other items), I selected the Samsung 960 and as able to boot.
The bios update should not disable seeing hard drives, I would classify this as an ASUS bug.

I've used my computer regularly every day with new components since October-November 2020. Today I see that my monitor shows the BIOS and I come to realize it isn't booting into Windows anymore. I see that my NVMe isn't showing as a bootable device anymore in the BIOS. I tried disconnecting, reconnecting the NVMe; trying it into the M.2_2 port; updated to the latest BIOS (2423 x64 - 8/10/2021[Build Date] and even in another nearby computer (that also had an Asus motherboard). My motherboard is Asus TUF Gaming B550-Plus. I've resetted to BIOS defaults and pressed F10 to save and exit. The NVMe *does* show in "Advanced>NVMe Configuration" as Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB. It shows Seg:Bus:Dev:Func as 00:01:00:00 Model Number as the Sabrent title I stated above. Total size is 0.0 GB Vendor ID is 1987 Device ID is 5016. Doing the Short/Extended Test below returns a result: "Not Available"
I enabled CSM and it gave a black screen with text saying reboot device and add a bootable disk/device (something along those lines). Please help me
