i was an inmate in the nineties 3 times, i was in one of the last van loads of prisoners to be moved to a country jail from Pentridge or "her majesties hotel", in those last months the place really fell apart, it was a God forsaken hellhole, i was in on my third trip due to thefts to support a bad heroin habit, these days there are better treatments for addiction and we all eventually grow up if the universe allows it. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Interesting trip down memory lane.
Only in Australia would they turn a prison into a shopping center, and cinema... For me, I have too many memories of Pentridge as a prison, and a place in which people were hanged. I remember going around pentridge when they had opened it up to the public after they had closed the prison... And I found it incredibly depressing and somewhat distressing experience.
I have one of choppers letters he sent from here. The year he shot the Turk. He sent it to his father from H division. In the letter it’s stated that he thought murder should be a “5 bob fuckin fine” and that god was on “his side, not the Turks” and “ stop sending letters to the homacide squad, they are starting to build a nut file on you”

A prison must command fear. With its high walls and central location Pentridge did just that. Who even sees the new prison? So it doesn't have the same psychological effect on deterring crime.
If you could only come up with ned kelly and choppa read you did no research for this vid. The last man hanged in australia Ronald ryan escaped from pentridge. Alot of the worst crims in aussie were kept and killed here
Fkn spot on, got everyone from the Allen and peirce family's, all the way through to Julian, flannery, FSPDU and there the recent ones I guess you could say, plus a shit load more. There's alot of history behind those walls, more than just Ned and Chopper.
No it was the screw in the tower, I'm. Old. School 65yrs and. Have done years for Robberies. Ryan. Never. Killed. Anybody Us. Old. Schooners. Know. The. Truth about. Everything.

I feel your pain bro. I did two trips in the 80's
Thanks mate.@@vinorob
I can't imagine how bad the cells felt then compared to modern day cells and prisoner units
@@kryptyx111 Another of our favourite nicknames for Pentridge was "the belly of the beast", the cells were beyond disgusting.
Thank you for your insights first hand. Your description of the life at your time tells the story.

I don’t remember Eric Bana being a resident
They’ve changed the front sign. It was, H.M. PENTRIDGE
I was there for three months in 94 that was just about as long as I could stand
Place reminds me of Williamstown Primary School back in the early 1970's, just cyclone wire instead of bars.
Great content & expertly filmed

Lmao classic chopper
I wouldn’t brag about knowing that piece of work. He was a waste of space in a compulsive liar
What a hilarious story. The man sending a letter so profound. It would be a interesting collection of sentiments and profound statements. Priceless.
Ah ole england eh...loves the cruelty...loves it

A very good and interesting video!
If those walls could talk.
As with Freo and, eg, Boggo Road, it should not have been closed, it was for many, feared.
I worked here for a number of years It was an absolute shit hole for both screws and crims.
I bet Dan hasn’t kept this around for it’s historical value 🤔
They closed geelong jail in 92 pentridge was open till 97
I used to drive past the old place on my way to work ,was lucky i went for a tour b4 they turned it into housing
I reckon the ghost's of the inmates would be out at night,,,i have toured Fremantle prison at night,,, very scary!
Now there us a skyscraper sticking out the middle of it.
You could have put chopps real picture
Ned Kelly's bone's were reburied there after the old Melbourne goal was closed down
Chopper bailed
I new it all. Thanks.
Why dont they clean the place up a bit ?
👍
If only the tunnel could talk......😵💫🙈🙉🙊
Depressing place. I think it is a good thing they closed it.
when they put the new part in does anybody know what happened to the graves of the prisoners
Pretty sure the bodies were exhumed and reinterred elsewhere (not sure where), but I don't think much care was put into it.
is there a skate ramp there
No. Not that I have seen...
Did Ronald Ryan kill George Hodson?
No it was the screw in the tower,
I'm. Old. School 65yrs and. Have done years for Robberies.

Us. Old. Schooners. Know. The. Truth about. Everything.
