recently i touched on a race in south maine decades ago where not only citizens category also some upper categories made there way in, such as in the whole expanse
As great as actual racing is for motivation and focus, it's these rides that are the most fun. Rapha used to call it gentlemen racing. Great to see you enjoying the journey, man!

Great vid. Reminds me of racing my friends on our home course. Obviously you cant do this on the regular but its great content, nothing means more than bragging rights between friends. Well done Luke and EJ in those wet conditions! +1 subscriber
This was fantastic. Would love to see it again. You definitely had home field advantage. The next one should be a little closer. Your buddy knows the roads a little better, and I’m sure he will get a few weekday rides in on the trainer before the next race now that he/you see you have such a great cheering section.

@@norcalfullraces one more thing, climbing elevation in feet is good for pilots but cyclists, use meters or yards please. Even Jeff counts down meters to the finish on Alviso But just a suggestion

Awesome video as always Ej. we spoke a bit on your last vid. I actually went out for my first race of the season this past weekend and only my second or 3rd race total. It was a omnium style race with a road race which I won solo from a breakaway with 2k to go and won the time trial as well and a crit Sunday where I took 4th and was able to secure the 1st overall. Great way to start the season off and very motivating to keep training still under a year of riding. Keep it up man looking forward to more videos and maybe even race with you one day 💪🏽💪🏽.

I've definitely experienced similar problems with the routing on my Wahoo. I almost always have the route map displayed such that I can see on the map where I need to go and generally ignore the directions the computer is giving me.
Another awesome video EJ! Loving the content and watching your progress (as I try to improve my fitness along side you). I have a non fitness related question, pertaining to clothing. How do you find your rain jacket, does it breath, any advice on purchasing? Clothing can be so pricey and would love to know your thoughts! Thanks!!!

The one I had on in this video is on sale right now which makes it not so pricy! My best advice would be to get something Gortex for when it’s rainy!

It’s ok to wear Adidas socks with a Rapha kit as a Cat 5, but don’t even think about trying that as Cat 4 😂

Panoramic highway 9:03 in the rain attacking by going into the car lane while a car is trying to overtake. Super dangerous section. Before passing your friend look back to see if it’s clear. Lived off this road and that section is heavily trafficked.

That so called "cat 5" rider is not a cat 5, he's above that, he's a natural with a powerful engine still in development. With just a few months of training he'll be beating lots of riders who have been riding and training for years but don't have the engine.
In no time he'll be racing the higher categories.
Only 3 - 5.5% climbs?! I'd be sitting right on the other guys' wheel (not a few metres behind like Luke...) enjoying a decent draft until a sprint at the end, where by then you hope they've tuckered themselves out by sitting on the front the whole time..... :)
thirty plus years ago we called certain groups cat four then five and citizens, simple put i whaled all of those, i whaled many of those, i even whaled some cat one twos, all in the expanse, there's likely been a very bottom barrel weak hernia citizen that dropped a cat one in a sprint or maybe even a few, that barrel has likely been few and far between but in the whole expanse
