BMW Welded LSD (Limited Slip Differential) Install!

- As with most BMW's when used on track, an LSD is a must have upgrade!
Unfortunately BMW didn't make this so easy on some models, including our 125D which comes with a welded ring gear that requires machining and drilling before upgrading.
Here's the process....

There's surely a ring-gear in some other BMW diff that would suit that particular wavetrack? Or even a completely different diff with same ratio

They used open diffs in the 335d … BMW was probably afraid they would compete with their M series cars 🤨
I had no idea there was so much involved making a solid diff. Im curious on how it feels to drive. Is this diff just for track use or can customers use it on the road ?
We will use on the road ;)
Welded in this context refers to the ring gear being welded on this diff as opposed to bolted, which makes fitting an LSD a pain in the arse. Welding your diff would be different.

@@DarksideDevelopments Will the acceleration of the car slow down after this process because there will be extra friction?
Acceleration should improve as the power is more evenly distributed to the wheels, plus the extra grip will help push you forward faster too

What's the difference between wavetrac and quaife LSD?
Some clutch plates ;) they have a good diagram
@@DarksideDevelopments can u feel it cranking/grinding on a turn for street use or is it smooth as not to wear out tires unless taking hard turns? and what is difference between quaife and wavetrack do they feel the same on a turn?

Edit: Dont know owt about bmw's and their diffs, but wouldnt a diff out of a 1 series which came standard with a lsd been more cost effective?
They don't have them!
Which diff is that? And any measurements for the ring gear machining? Got an m tec diff and the diff ready to go onto my lathe as I write 🤣

No, this is just a ring that is welded on to the diff. The wheels still spin at different speeds. With the welded diff used in drifting, they weld the teeth together so that the wheels spin at the same speed

What’s the best diff for m140
Not tried any on the 140i's, we put wavetrac on our 125 which worked well and most of our projects got Quaife diffs which we don't usually have a problem with
