We have had this on Easter since I can remember. We’d go to my grandpas house and he’d make it for us. Now my brothers and cousin will do it since he passed. It was sad not being able to get together with everyone for the past 2 years. We don’t use sour cream we use 1/2 & 1/2 and try to make sure it doesn’t curdles. We’d have fried onions and horseradish for those who like it. Thank you for this. Nice to see others that eat this every Easter.
This is the closest to what I learned. In place of the chicken broth we use the water from boiling fresh kielbasa (1 1/2 hr simmer and skimmed when the fat and congealed protein first appears) and the sour is vinegar and lemon juice to taste. 1/2 and 1/2 in place of the sour cream. Served with the kielbasa, hard boiled egg, and mashed potato. Properly tempering is key to not having it curdle.
Blessings to you and your family. This is the closest thing to our "Boscht". (we don't use sour cream in the broth, though -- we pour the broth over sliced kielbasa, torn pieces of rye and pumpernickel bread and hard-boiled egg). Your mother was lovely. Our Mom passed recently as well. This was very endearing to me in all remembrance. Hope you keep on the traditions of this recipe.
I love everything about this video..the star Grandma or how i called my grandma in polish Baba. Then her plate she cut up her kielbasa on even the ladle all tools that my baba used to have. I miss those days it's a great trip down memory lane watching this!
Bridget Harrison Thanks for the comments and memories. We called our grandmother Babu. My mother passed away 3 years ago at age 90. We're so glad we made this video Regards, Rich & Ann
Love your video ! My grandmother made this the same way but she added some ham pieces to the pot. Our family thinks this is the best part of the Easter meal. We are all addicted to it !
Glad your family enjoyed the video. Mom passed away in 2014 but thanks to her, we all know how to make the soup and enjoy it every Easter and Christmas. We'll have to try adding some ham next time.
Hello!!! I love this video so much! You remind me of my Buszia, she’s now in heaven but she was an amazing cook. Thank you for this video! I’m trying to get in touch with my polish roots and my husbands polish roots. I want to learn how to make Fauz (I can’t remember how you spell it) so I’m starting off with this soup!
