    Dehydration was causing my gout. After reading Dr. Perlmutter's book "Drop Acid" I decided to increase my water intake. I shoot for 5 quarts a day. Only 2 flares in over a year and both were related to letting myself get dehydrated. Yes, I pee a lot. Also add lemon juice to the first quart. Good luck.

      My physician tested and diagnosed me with gout. He prescribed Allopurinol. It laid me out. It was nasty. I was successfully dealing with my gout with blueberry juice. Only take allopurinol after colchicine has cleared the gout. My gout began with pedaigue, left big toe, age 70. If ignored it became a 9-10. Now I take 1 blueberry capsule daily. Sources are Puritan Pride or Life Extension. Now I rarely have gout problems. When an ache or swelling starts in my fingers, toes or ankles , two blueberry capsules and 2 advil remove all symptoms in 2 to 4 hours. This only reoccurs about once a year and is rapidly and easily dealt with.

    I believe I developed it in my knee as really of acute arthritis, due to a dislocation 23 years ago. I asked my chiropractor what he suggested, and he said 1000mg of good quality vitamin C, 3x a day, with lots of water. As a vitamin junky, that was no problem for me. I saw instant results. The pain went from 8 while sitting still and 10 while standing up and still, to 1 sitting and maybe 2 to 3 standing up. That's after months of pain. My attacks usually didn't stem from diet alone, but every time I got on the treadmill for cardio. I could do leg extensions that would seem to ease the pain for a day, but then it was right back to square one.

    Colchicine and 5 litres of water minimum daily when suffering an attack.
    Its a long process but it didn't just happen overnight. Every normal day you should have 3 litre bottle of water and finish it.
    The other thing is stress. Easy to say it but don't put yourself in a stress position. I am sure it contributes to my attacks.

    I developed gout very soon after switching from regular sugar to XYLITOL, an alcohol sugar, this winter. After I almost lost one large toe, I found after the fact that Xylitol increases the incidence of gout by 800%. It triggered an autoimmune illness that even 2 rounds of prednisone has not gotten under control. I've been using apple cider vinegar, tart cherry concentrate, ginger and other supplements that are supposed to help. Some like curcumin and black pepper extract interfere significantly with a leukemia medicine I take daily. With that medication, Colcachine presents a 60% chance of hospitalization and a 25% chance of death. Epdom salt foot soaks are doing nothing so I'm soaking them in warm activated charcoal soaks to prevent infection from the broken skin. My toe has actually split. My MD referred me to a podiatrist whose staff ignored the referral. As a result, I'm having to wait 6 weeks to get an appointment. Allopurinol helps prevent the crystals from being formed but doesn't help dissolve out the uric acid crystals already there in the joint.

But one morning I woke up with a sore foot. It was so bad I couldn't walk on it. Friend said it was gout. Boy did it hurt. Doctor gave me Prednisone and something else . I had bad gout in my twenties arising they said, from the extreme heat 100+degf that I worked in down the mine. I would drink up to 16 pints water in a shift and it all got sweated out, and rarely needed a pee. That messed with the kidneys getting rid of waste, including uric acid. Moved to a cooler mine and the problem stopped.
    For the next 30 years, I thought gout was 10/10 painful .... until I got Severe Acute Pancreatitis... that is a whole new pain scale. 4 months in Hospital and after major pancreas surgery, I have had to take digestive enzymes made from Pig Pancreases, and it is the high purine content in those, that sparked off a new series of attacks. Took a while to identify the cause, but after a couple of months taking Allopurinol the problem has gone ...... for now at least ;

    I was having severe gout attacks. I had to decide what food I was consuming the most of -- and had consumed the most of during my life. It was beef, hands down.; lots of beef since I was a child. I cut out ALL beef and about 80-90% of my attacks vanished. They say meat doesn't cause gout but it did for me, so that's total BS. I still have gout to some degree but not the horrible attacks that I used to have. Now, I drink a lot of water as well as one to two cans of seltzer a day (a trick I learned from a friend in France to break up crystals), lost weight, walk more and increase vegetables in my diet. I eat small dinners earlier than 6pm of mostly vegetables. Colchicine is great as well as indomethacin for relief.

    Haven't found what causes mine yet. VA hospital is horrible. Went to emergency room on crutches since both feet were so swollen I couldn't walk. VA ER Doctor said "why did you come here, this is an emergency room and it's for actual emergencies!" I yelled at him and said "I can't f**king walk, isn't that an emergency!" And then said "The VA help line nurse told me to come here!" They finally gave me a shot and sent me home after waiting 3 hours. I quit going since they never help and it's been sixteen years with this issue and they just say go home and rest. I started drinking warm lemon juice first thing in morning and it seems to help shorten the time it affects me. Used to be almost two weeks of pain and now it's about 4 to 5 days. Outside doctor's said my blood test show I have rampant inflammation in my body and can't figure it why. Oh well I'll keep trying things and hopefully figure it out on my own since I'm not rich enough to keep paying private doctor bills and VA hasn't tried figuring it out in last 16 years.

So now I am in two minds to take it. I am on XARELTO as I had a blood clot/DVT in 2013 due to an Achilles tendon rupture. The DR prescribed me COLCHICINE last week.
    However, within the week I have been doing researching on what I can do 'at home cure'. ... So far I have been eating oranges and recently been having lemon water and continually fuelling up on bottles of water.... Within the last 2 days , the throbbing, red hot sensation I was feeling on my right foot has now subsided and I can feel that I can walk AT LEAST better than what I could have done 5 days ago...
    However, I am still in two minds to pop the first '2 pills of colchcine' as directed in the leaflet and then 1 an hour later just to speed up the process......?

      Once I had a gout attack, and the doctor told me not a take Cholcine, a bit late after the attack. During this time, I drank water and took some Tylenol. It subsided after 2-3 days of suffering. But hasn't cured my frequent flare-ups.

      @@GULSHAN540 so since then I popped numerous colchicines during the initial post AS WELL as I had a semi flare up again last week, came out of nowhere (or so I believe) , but now my foot is fine . Popped x2 at once and then 1 after 7 hours and then another x1 after that 7 hours , total of 4 in a day. As well as drinking tart cherry juice, oranges and apple cider vinegar. 💆🏽‍♂️

      @@Peterparkarghdo your feet swell up as well?

      @@tia7765 yeah the right foot was a bit swollen (because when I touched it it felt puffy and quite inflamed. I literally just wanted to take a pin and release all the tension and pain!!) But I’m not going to lie, whether it was the colchicines or the whole mix of colchicine and tart cherry juice/oranges , that pain and swelling definitely went down. When it flared up again, I felt this niggling feeling in my right toe region. As soon as I felt this feeling I ran to pop x2 colchicines and that definitely helped out in the long run throughout the day because it gradually creeps in, gets swollen and then you feel the pain AND THEN the pain goes away (All this is while you have taken the colchicine and it is doing it’s magic inside of you)… so yeah, you just have to bare with it in that process

      Be careful how much colchicine you take or you better stay close to the crapper as you may get explosive diahrea. Been there.
