Please make this channel a thing! love the content you produce on and off MC garage, I would definitely pay attention if you started to document some more of your racing/bike building, and I'm sure others would too. Thanks!
That was really satisfying seeing an engine being completely disassembled and put correctly back together. Even makes me appreciate my cbr250r more. Fantastic vid, Ari!
Ari, Just wanted to say because of this video, you inspired me to fix my 2015 CBR-300R. Long story short, my piston rings were shot, so I rebuilt part of the engine with no prior mechanical experience. Now, I feel like I can fix anything. Again, thanks for the inspiration!
I have a cbr250r also. I overheated the engine so i ordered another one online and put it in myself...when it started up...i balled like a baby! Its good to see others enjoy this bike also.
hi Ari.. I'm a fan from philippines and been watching all your videos in MC garage for a year now. before I always bring my bike to a bike shop. Now I decided to study it and do it my self.. because of your tutorials I learned a lot, and now I'm doing everything to my self except for Motorcycle wiring.. Can you please make a tutorial for this. I love the way you deliver your knowledge, It's so easy to understand,... Thank you so much and ride safe always..:)
In case anyone is wondering where you get those little plastic ziploc bags, they're called jewelry bags, and you can find them in most big stores in the craft/art supply section. They're also ridiculously cheap, you can get a pack of 100 for a couple dollars.
Yup, I sometimes buy in bulk, but mostly I just reuse bags I get in the mail. Plus my wife and coworkers know I love bags so they're always saving them for me. #reuse
Ari, great video. You definitely should do more videos like these. Like to see what type of work goes into rebuilding a motorcycle engine. Really satisfying to take something that does not work and get it running again. Keep the content coming!
You are the only reason i watch mc garage videos even after its 7 years old , man love your videos , continue and we will support you... Love from india .
A million thanks to you. My 2016 KTM Duke 390 was poorly and just suddenly became difficult to start . Then, it dropped a valve or something similar resulting in a wrecked head , piston etc. I sourced the parts mainly from India . It was setting the valve timing that freaked me but after watching your detailed video of how to set the timing on a KTM RC 390 , I got inspired. Rebuild was completed last week with the help of a talented Philippine mechanic ( first time for us both to tear down a KTM ) Thanks again for your inspirational videos.
Hey after this video i bought myself an old xj600 that was not running. Took it all apart and cleaned all the parts. Its was so much fun and now i can make someone happy with it and make a buck on the side. Thanks for your video's really enjoi them👍
Awesome video. I acquired an 05 cbr600rr with a connecting rod sticking out of the engine case for like $500. I got a donor block for $100 bucks with a bad head. Switched over original head and whatever parts were better, valeve job, new clutch and now I have an awesome bike for cheap haha. You’re right there is nothing like hearing that initial start up. Best feeling in the world.
I like that you showed a few shots with the factory service manual, an important tool to have. I've only forgotten the plug wire more times than I care to say.
Awesome video dude, thank you for this. I've wanted to get into the more serious work for my bike, videos like these give me a chance to really take a look at a bike as it comes apart.
Glad you liked it. I figured there'd be some entertainment/educational value in it. If nothing else it's a good video to send to the guy I sold the bike to.
i picked up that you build race engines , and that you do alot of work in your spare time , be really cool if you could do videos on them 2 ! ..... not that your busy enough haha . great watch look forward to whatever come up next or on MC garage / 2 wheels
this is an awesome restoration!! cbr250 just lookin like a 150, but was amazed to see they differ in chassis.. had to swap my 150 with a scooter because my wife would have a hard time riding the cbr and a scooter is much more convenient with everything.. if one day i could get one again, id never hesitate to have me a cbr again, even if its a 150 still.. awesome piece of bike!! really enjoyed this Ari! thanks man!
Love your videos Ari. I started binge watching your MC garage videos just this month. Did a lot of help with some maintenance on my small cc bike! I hope you will continue to post some more content on this channel. Good luck over at Motor Trend! More power!
Your video helped me learn alot about motorcycle. Although I am no machanic, nor really having a project. I still enjoy your content. Keep up the good work. Love from Malaysia.
Fantastic video! I'd love to see more in depth detail (whether it's on your personal channel or a part of motocyclist online) around the more technical aspects of motorcycle maintenance and rebuilding. Even if it's just recommended resources and reading beyond how to adjust your chain, change a tire, change oil/filter.

I'm 52 now and I'm feeling 25 and haven't slowed down other than realizing my mortality and I like that I can flog away at 11k and and not feel like I am going to die at 180 mph. Great video. You make it look easy. I decided I'm not going to pay places to put new tires on my bikes anymore. I bought new tires, a tire changing stand with bead breaker and a set of tire irons and stuff. Going to give it a go in a few weeks when the weather warms up here in Ohio. I will be replacing tires on a 2013 Honda CBR 250R and a 2006 BMW F650 GS. Wish me luck!!
I don't yet have a motorcycle nor a car. But this is how I want it to be some day. Buy a 90s motorcycle that I will get to know inside and out, fix and fiddle on myself, both learning how to ride and how to keep it in good shape myself. I think it's a great skill to have. Hey man, I don't know you or where you're from, but I had the same dream - got myself a 600er GSX-R from 2000 for very little money (under 2000€) a year ago, been learning ever since, all the things you said. It's so worth it.
Heya Robert, I posted this video well over a year ago! Haven't up anything else since then, so this probably isn't a great place to get fresh content. Check out motortrend.com/moto for our new series, Throttle Out, as well as Throttle Out Garage and Throttle Out Commute. Ride safe!
Great video Ari! I just helped my son pick up a 2012 CBR250R for his first bike, he loves it. He was riding my 2004 CB250 Nighthawk. The CBR feels like a spaceship compared to the Nighthawk.
You've got me Ari, your hobby is the same as mine though while your bikes are from a 'newer' generation, so are you. Now a days 'work' is done, I must tend to my 12 bikes in my shop. Cheers from Sydney mate
Ari , come on back. Ive watched just about every video of yours out there. Need more content and you're by far the best in the business! Maybe a cross over with Aaron Colton?
So satisfying to watch, I always wanted to open up a smaller CC bike but I don't have the confidence. When you were putting in some parts of engine, even you had to refer to the manual.
Buy something that's already broken and you won't be able to make it any worse! I started on lawnmowers as a kid because I could get them at the dump for free. And yes, even after all the CBRs I've rebuilt (there have been a lot!) I still need to reference the shop manual for order of operations, torque specs, etc.
First time I see an older video of you. Didn't know you had all this knowledge my dude. Awesome job. Wish I had access to you lol. I'm having some issues with my 2015 r3. I do all the wrenching on it, but when it comes to knowing WHY it's doing what it's doing, I know NOTHING about it. I've tried all kinds of SMALLER things lol. Don't have the knowledge to get inside of the motor. But I had no luck. And I HATE to send it to some of these mechanics I have near me. There is only ONE that I might let touch my bike. Anyway, sup from SOUTH Louisiana. Like watching y'all new videos and thoughts on the different bikes out there. Keep up the great work.
Much thanks, short but instructive video. Love the ride footage at the end. Want one of these, wife won't play. At 72 she thinks I'm too old. Bah humbug....
Hi Ari, not sure if there is a conflict between you publishing videos here on your own channel vs your other channels, but I think it would be super awesome if you made some voiceover videos of some of your races on the cbr, rc390, and/or r3. What's going on in your mind, when do you have the confidence to pass, when do you back off? Where do you do well, where can you improve? That sort of insight would be epic! Cheers, you're a hero.
Good to watch your CBR video. I just happened to have bought TWO 2012 CBR 250's this past month. My first one is red/silver and had set unmoved for 5 1/2 years. I got it running with cleaned fuel system and it also needed a chain and rear master cylinder. It runs beautiful and has just 6,408 miles on it. This one I paid $400. for. The bad news is the promised title may not be available anytime soon. Looking for an option on the internet I found another CBR in a red/white/and blue format in beautiful condition that has a rod knock for $500.. Later I will investigate why. Tomorrow morning the engine will come out of the red bike into my red, white, and blue Captain America CBR. I am a 75 year old retired auto mechanic whose only claim to fame is I won the National Alfa Romeo Mechanic's Championship in 1986. I really wanted to make the red/silver one into the best bike as I also own it's "Big Brother" a 2010 VFR1200f in the same color scheme. I have the perfect working environment for these builds in a large mobile home on my new property where my other 3 bikes are stored. Wish me luck! I, like you, enjoy making things because as mechanics we LOVED what we do.
Today I made great progress, taking the engine out of the red one and almost completely installing it in the red, white, and blue one in 9 hours. I have to install the front fairing pieces. The "donor" engine had just 6,408 miles on it. I did check valve clearances while it was out as it is so much easier. The red, white, and blue one just had new tires and a lithium battery. Remounting that engine is a pain doing it all alone. I sure learned where everything is and I do have a factory manual @@AriH211
Having watched pretty much every MC Commute Zach has made, I watched you take this CBR out for a test ride and thought, "Wait, you're going the wrong way! You should be headed northbound, because....we always go northbound here!" Then I thought, "Eh, he's probably headed to Zach's place to show off his latest success." Great video, AH.
Great video Ari, love it. And it inspired me so much that I am picking up a 2012 model tomorrow with less than 1400 km, looking like new..... Kind regards from Sweden.
@@AriH211 I feel honored to get a reply from you. In the meantime I have watched a lot of your videos on the MC Garage ( included one you having dreadlocks... ) and I do not only love your style but your videos are the absolute best, especially the instructional ones. A pitty that you seem to have gotten out of the picture lately.
@@angrysweet8932 Hi Snarf, I'm still making regular videos for Motor Trend on their subscription platform. We have Throttle Out, Throttle Out Garage, and Throttle Out Commute. Take a look at motortrend.com/moto
I would have left that plug out on purpose so that I could get the oil up in the engine and through out before starting it with such a rebuilt. I can imagine you gave the engine a spin before trying to crank it. Great video. I hope to see you guys (Zack as well) back on the motorcycle channels and platforms.
Yup that's a good option. I assemble with a very viscous, zinc-rich lube that provides good protection at startup. Zack and I are still cranking out content, it's just on the Motor Trend platform now. Our main show, Throttle Out, is bigger and longer than what we were doing on YT, and we've still got a Garage and Commute show. You can check out the platform at motortrend.com/moto.
took apart my fairings today and when I put them back together I had some extra screws.... should have watched this video earlier and used the bags tip!
Awesome video, thanks. Just found a 2016 CBR 500RA at auction, if I am lucky will be good to go or at least will be a cool project like yours. For less than $1000 I think I will win both ways, thanks again. Love your Work
OMG. You are the best. Do more videos for your channel. You made this job look like changing a lightbulb. Hats off. And btw i also own a baby cbr250r tri colour. I m just too afraid to even change the spark plug.hehe.. you rock. Huge fan.
Hey bro. I enjoyed your video. Just thought I'd say my 2012 cbr250r has a litle over 95000 km on it. Never opened up the motor. Have it for a litle over 8 years now.
PLEASE make more of these because I really enjoy this kind of stuff. Also I don't know about everyone else, but I don't think I would mind hearing you rattle on about whatever you wanted while you were making the engine, I think I could watch the whole thing with no time lapses, haha. Unless you don't really think you would talk while you're working or if you cuss too much or listen to music or whatever, but it might be worth a shot! I love all the content MCM puts up, but I like stuff like this even more. Thanks for doing it!
Heya Poptart Eater, I've got another bike (a Zuma scooter) that needs a total rebuild, and eventually I'll get around to it. When I do, I'll make sure the cameras are rolling. I'm glad you enjoyed this vid.
Hey Ari. I was sad to see you leave the (other) channel but I guess things change all the time. Thanks for posting such a great vid on repairing an engine. Loving your editing and as always your commentary. No bullshit and that’s what I like. Great wee story going on there too and it was so nice seeing it from start to finish with the blast up the road. Any chance of more like this from you? Take care. Stu (Glasgow, Scotland)
Heya Stu, this was pretty much a one-off vid I made simply because I thought it would be fun. The Motor Trend gig keeps us pretty busy so I haven't had time to work on much outside of the bikes we're building for the show, but I do have a haggard Zuma 50 2t that needs a full rebuild, so maybe I'll get to document that.
Ari Henning That’s a pity it’s one off. This for me is the perfect video and with your presenting skills and sick editing it’s a front runner on CZcams mate. Anyway thank you for the very kind reply and all the best. Ride safe. Stu
I know it's been 5 years, but I would love it if you did more videos like this.
You should make more of these, I enjoyed it.
I've got a ravaged Zuma scooter that needs, well, pretty much everything. That's next.
Great video. Can you make more??

@@AriH211 I feel honored to get a reply from you. In the meantime I have watched a lot of your videos on the MC Garage ( included one you having dreadlocks... ) and I do not only love your style but your videos are the absolute best, especially the instructional ones. A pitty that you seem to have gotten out of the picture lately.
@@angrysweet8932 Hi Snarf, I'm still making regular videos for Motor Trend on their subscription platform. We have Throttle Out, Throttle Out Garage, and Throttle Out Commute. Take a look at motortrend.com/moto
Ari Henning you're great at this stuff . I just want to be like you
I would have left that plug out on purpose so that I could get the oil up in the engine and through out before starting it with such a rebuilt.
I know I'm late to the game, but that was a great video. I'm actually thinking of getting a little 250 myself. Keep up the great work!
I m just too afraid to even change the spark plug.hehe.. you rock. Huge fan.
I love the vid. I know it 4 years old vid. But this old cbr engine has really good base for tuning
You are really good at it. Cheers!
So awesome Ari!!! MOAR VIDEOS PLEZ!!!!
Excellent n easy to understand video. Worth sharing n subscribing....
Nice stuff, please do more!
Hey bro. I enjoyed your video. Just thought I'd say my 2012 cbr250r has a litle over 95000 km on it. Never opened up the motor. Have it for a litle over 8 years now.
Subbed! great content, good luck Ari!
Very good assembled Man thanks I learned very much.
great video! Looking for a project bike of my own to start now
PLEASE make more of these because I really enjoy this kind of stuff.
Awesome man, really looking forward to it!
That was satisfying! Thanks for sharing.
Great job I follow you from long time I learned from you many experiences thanks and I hope to come to visit your second home Egypt 🇪🇬
The neighborhood looks like you're from Sta Clarita, Saugus or Valencia Ca. Love the vids!
Really nice work
Didn't know that you have a private channel ari, subbed automatically
We need to see more videos like this 😊
Nice one bro. Keep it up loved your videos. Make some maintainance videos on RC
Ride safe. Stu
You got to have a lot of experience or a good education to be able to do that.
You are a boss
Lots of experience and education by way of shop manuals. ;)
