Honda CBR 250R Review- It's kinda brilliant actually......

  • I had a loan of this lovely little Honda CBR 250R while my V-Strom was in for a service. They're getting on in years but if you're looking for a first bike, you really can't do much better. It's cheap, fun, reliable and there's even heaps of mods available if that's you're thing.

You keep mentioning that this is a "starter bike". I have a 2010 VFR 1200f, a 2014 CB1100. a '23 Grom and now this past month bought TWO 2012 CBR250r's and I am 75 years old. This is all the motorcycle I will really ever need and may be just what you need if you are experiencing the physical limitations of later life and are downsizing. You can certainly keep up with traffic, it is light enough that you are not afraid of it and it can be more FUN than any bigger bike. It has a balance shaft to adaquately handle vibration, fuel injection for instant starting with no choke or later carb problems, liquid cooling for riding and idling in city traffic on 100 degree days and gets 77 miles per gallon. What more can you ask for?

Most of these here are ridden by young lads who are new riders. Of course some more experienced riders are going to ride them but this bike is firmly aimed at beginner riders- here in Oz anyway. I can’t tailor a review to suit every single potential rider.

I’ve owned 3 250s and this is my third one. I must say, it’s surprisingly fun and nimble to ride. I love it being fuel injected, twin cam and strangely a single. Thrash it everywhere and still get 3.5 litres per 100kms.
Easy to look after and cheap to fix. Massive in India too.
A mate of mine told me this is considered a touring bike in India. Crazy.

I just bought one at age 57 after riding much bigger, faster, etc., etc. bikes it's great fun. First bike I've had for a very long time that I can get both feet down flat! I was looking at older 1980's bikes but people are asking too much for them for what you get & also wanted to be able to ride into London without incurring low emission zone charges...

I live in Montreal, Quebec and I bought mine with the intention of riding it for one season and getting rid of it, but I turned out to love it, its great for ripping around this gridlocked mess of a city, while taking almost no gas doing it. I see no reason to change it out, especially in this economy. It does need a new stator though, it doesn't run on its own juice after it kicked the bucket it October. should be good as new though once i swap it. I love my little 250, its an amazing city commuter bike. It saved me so much money when gas was in excess of $2.50CAD/Liter.
13:40 Mine does have ABS :)

Coincidentally I remembered your voice from a video I watched nearly 2 year's ago about driving around Townsville in the heat. My gf said she wants one of these and after your review I'm convinced that it's the perfect beginner bike for her. Cheers mate 🥂

Ace to see a vid from you Paddy :-) I love little bikes, they are so much fun, and like you say, you can actually ride them fully on the road, which you just can't do in reality on larger faster sportsbikes.

Thanks mate. Yeah, I love being able to rev the shite out of a bike. Even on a humble 650 Strom, it's not often I have the chance, save for on-ramps and overtaking!

Thanks Paddy as a new (older 50yrs) rider I went the 250cc direction with a Kawasaki gpx 250 very similar to the Honda cbr 250,glad I did easy to ride not too much power but enough to gain experience. Only one month to go then will have full licence and will be ordering a new Suzuki vstrom 650 myself seems like a worthy upgrade for commuting and longer rides.

      I went a very similar route- a Yamaha R3 to a Strom 650!

I'm a new rider with around 2 months experience; and I got this bike the day I got my permit. Now after 2 months, I am looking at selling mine since I got a 650F and this one feels just super slow; especially on going up hills or incline, it just doesn't wanna go. That being said, the fuel economy on this bike is stellar. Didn't think as anew rider I would outgrow it so fast lol - good video.

Mine goes fine up hills. Super steep ones too. Sounds like you needed to rev it higher.

sounds like you never learned how to ride...... Why d'you think F1 drivers start in 100cc Karts?

  • @Banditmanuk

I'm so old I started on an RD250LC 250. Definitely see the appeal of riding a small capacity machine hard. Being the same height as you I don't think I could take the cramped position for long though.

I started with a Suzuki TU250x. Mechanical throttle so it's a bit herky jerky in the hands of a beginner but man does it get off the line. Good alternative to the CBR if you prefer a more old school look. Anyone should try a 250cc, no matter what it is. I wish I could've kept it to turn into a cafe racer.

Once you're cruising around at 80kph you should be shifting into 6th.
That will stop the vibration in the handlebars

  • @RRP1992
    @RRP1992 Před rokem

Hey Paddy, how are the engine vibrations above 6000 RPMs ? I own one since 2012 but the engine feels rough and buzzy on the handlebars above 6000 RPMs even on 6th gear.

Honda makes great bikes. However for road travel you'll need something with a greater cc for comfort over distance
