- Go behind the Scenes with Green Frog Productions in 1993 in Part-3 of this multi part mini series of forgotten footage.
We follow Emmy-award winning producer and feature reporter John Yeager along with his personal Videographer, they traveled across the Great Northwest U.S. capturing some great scenes and stories for Green Frog Productions.
This footage turned into a couple of programs for the Frog; Amtrak's California Zephyr and Amtrak's California Zephyr Second Edition - Now you can see Behind The Scenes footage we've never shown before!

What a pleasant, enjoyable documentary. No artificial drama, no disturbing music, no scripted text,..,all of the employees I saw in these videos are great characters and it’s a big pleasure to listen to their stories.
Tommy Wong, that guy is a character. One of the Engineers out of LA that helped me learn 8th St Yard when i was an AC. Never thought I'd seem him in a vid from '93 lol
A Chinese locomotive engineer out of LA?
For SP ?
This is the old D&RGW route to Salt Lake City. Rode it on the original California Zephyr. Nothing short of spectacular.
Absolutely loved watching this, those F40PHs had to been using every horsepower available to pull that train up threw those mountains! Awesome scenery as well! Loved when they blew the horn and that girl in the bathing suit came out of the trailer to give a very enthusiastic wave!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video!
The canyon scenery is beautiful!
Great video! I was born in Glenwood in 97. Been a rail fan all my life per my father so we were constantly down there at the Amtrak station. I grew up watching the Genesis pull the Amtrak, but they just got done redoing the whole station area and bridge and although this video is four years before I was born, it looks exactly how I remember it.
11:08 there she is!! Lol that was hilarious, good old times
9:18
On the top left of the screen, note the F40 the Green Frog camera crew is on: this is NOT the same F40 in Part 2 leaving Chicago as that F40 is #352 while this F40 is #355! As such, this was filmed on a different day (close to 100% likely) or this engine was assisting 352 (pretty unlikely).
This is TERRIFIC! From the very BEST DAYS of AMTRAK!!! May they return soon!!!
Interesting to see the land to right of the locomotive in Denver. Coors Field hadn't even started going up. That part of Denver looks completely different now.
really fun to watch thanks for uploading it!
11:12 That's awesome!!!!
Excellent Video
Incredibly clear footage!
If you can’t Ride the CA Zephyr from Chicago to California, Ride it from Denver to Green River, UT.👍
They missed some of the best scenery. Big 10, the tunnel district, Fraser River canyon, Byers Canyon, Gore and little Gore canyons, ....
Still nice to see the combined CZ, DW, Pioneer.
13:57 there’s just something about the sound of a 16-645
Its just amazing!
That was about as inerestting as the edited project. Really neat, thank you for posting this.
Good one. I always enjoy your videos.
Thanks very much for watching, glad you enjoyed the Video!
Hello you three, any plans for a modern Zephyr or another route video? Also GREAT footage of the ride.
How strange we were 15 yrs almost from WIFI computers stayed at home..Cell phones as big as a shoe expensive as hell..Not that long ago..
I amazed that you didn't have the big ten curve and Moffat Tunnel.
Great stuff!
Thanks very much, glad you like it. Please subscribe to our CZcams channel and give us a thumbs up!

GreenFrogVideos Enjoyed the video... Do you know if that Engineer guy is still alive? He seemed like a very nice guy.
I am very sad that I got the chance to ride in the cab of an Amtrak F40PH.
Best part 11:12
Going WEST the schedule is just a guess btw!
odlično
pozdravljam
Them F40ph’s can hall some serious ass!!!!!
Damn the unit that was in the Silver Springs MD wreck 1996
Was Grand Junction or Winter Park in this video or did I missed it? You must have ran out of daylight by then since you were about 5 hours late. We did not start riding the Zephyr until 2002 and annually since then. Your 1993 scenery looks pretty much the same except for the lady ( in her 50-60s by now ) in the trailer. I wonder if the engineer ever visited the lady.

I dropped dead if I saw Beautiful hot baby's was interested in my working on the railroad I need work me as a train engineer or for AMTRAK so much fun having a job that you love yes girls love to talk Thanks friend awesome video this filming really touched me
Is that F40PHR unit 404 in this video???
HOW did you get at front of train?
This footage was shot back in the late 90s by an ABC news affiliate we partnered with by the name of John Yeager, and his personal Videographer that traveled with him. They were able to get in the train cab #1 because it was a different time back then and Railroad rules were more relaxed, #2 He had TV News credentials which really helped out!
@@GreenFrogVideos ohhhhhh :( hoped I could work on gettin there on zephyr ne t april
Was this shot before or after the 93 South alabama derailment?
Sorry, not sure on that!
How does one get permission from Amtrak to ride along with the Engineer in the Engine from Chicago to San Francisco? Please!
You probably cannot get permission today, it was quite different in the early 90s though, plus John Yeager and his videographer were with the Press, so he had that going!
You know this is mainly begging the fans to have you put this footage for sale on DVD.
We actually do have this available on DVD - www.greenfrog.com/amtrakCalZ_bonus.shtml
@@GreenFrogVideos When I first saw these uploaded they got me thinking, you by chance wouldn't happen to have behind-the-scenes footage from The Empire Builder video lying around would you?
@@colinmulder6806 Some links from our website for these videos, this program would be what you are asking about basically! - www.greenfrog.com/empire_dvd.shtml
The Zephyr crosses the Mississippi River at what city?
CastleMr40 Burlington,IA
Isn't this more B-roll, as opposed to "behind the scenes"?
Thanks very much for watching - We have included a number of scenes never shown before within each Behind the Scenes volume.
Wonder if the engineer ever visited that lady
This could have been great with some commentary on where the train actually was instead of the few comments heard and the selfies taken.
This is what railroading is, enjoy it for what it is.
why is their two people in the cab?
Engineer and conductor
no a subtitles
Who’s that at 7:17
That is John Yeager the producer asking the questions - this is him at 5:59
@@GreenFrogVideos I mean who’s that at the throttle?
Edit I guess the engineer at the throttle is engineer Wally Price, correct?
Yes you are correct!
@@csxrailfanbronyzachbecker2105 Wally Prince was the engineer out of Chicago
This train is fake, there is no steering wheel.
I hate how folks like to talk negitivly about the urban cities but never elaborate on how unequal law enforcement is there. You can read between the lines and feel the racist conversations here.
I didn't get that vibe at all, it is all in your mind.
Poor videoing abilities again. No knowledge of noise suppression nor focus lock.
This is raw footage, perhaps you've heard of it? The subject matter is interesting enough to me that I can be forgiving if the technical quality isn't up to your standards. Great job GreenFrogVideos!
