Day in the Life of a Freight Train Engineer

Video taken on board a Norfolk-Southern freight train on December 18, 2000. Engineer Sandy Cogman oversees trainee Christopher Seeling, who drives the locomotive from Nixon Yard in Augusta, Georgia to Andrews Yard in Columbia, South Carolina. Footage captures a typical work day on the railroad and how a freight train operates. Passing scenery includes main street of Augusta, Langley Pond, various mill towns, and the skyline of Columbia.
