  • Is Brazil still the country of football even after their recent struggles?
In this new five episode documentary series "Country of Football", Goal will take you on a journey through Brazil in order to try and truly understand the country's passion for the game and how it manifests itself.
The first episode is about "Improvisation". Forget the huge stadiums, Brazilian's learned to play football in the dirt, on the asphalt, in the sand... And that is precisely what makes the players born here so special.

In Brazil, creativity is not dead. The problem is that clubs in general train players to be sold to big European clubs that prefer fast and physically strong players. Have you noticed, for example, in the Premier League, even the height of the players is similar?

Brazilians should look at their own history,....their own footballers from past like Kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo...
They enjoyed their game,....The core of Brazilian style itself, is enjoying the football. Artificial or technical things like strength, speed, etc. are from German or English football. They focus more on that, because thet is their strong point...
Don't get me wrong, Ronaldo or Ronaldinho were strong too, but their playing was like a magic, because Brazilian football is all about magical skills and enjoying the football.

When I was a child I used to play with buddies a street football game called "golzinho", which consisted of two teams of two players, no goalkeeper, the teams facing each other on the street, and we used two bricks or a pair of flip flops to set the little area of about 60cm where we should score the goals. The space of the field was short even for 4 players and we should think fast enough to pass the ball quickly and score goals in a window of just 60cm, which would be defended at any cost by the opponent team. Also, we used to hit the ball at the sidewalks to rebound the ball and drible the defender, in a way that the sidewalk 'played' as a third player for the team. After playing 'golzinho' for years, where I had to score a goal on 60cm, once I was invited to play in a field of grass, where I found way easier to score goals in that wide net, unless that I had to run a lot more (what got me exhausted). I also played some futsal, what is way more faster than the grass field and you must have extreme good ability with the ball and quick reflex. And I also played a little bit barefoot on the sand, where you should have a stronger physical capability and the ball didn't rolled that fast. Having said that, I'm only an amateur and if you read every word you won't discover any secret to become a football star. 🤣 🇧🇷❤️⚽
