    Loose Leash Walking: • How to teach a dog to ...
    Today I am going over a video from Joel Beckman showing how to be as unsafe as possible when handling a dog, let alone a Cane Corso.
    I will be giving my point of view on the methods being used, as well as giving the animal(s) in this video a voice. Don't blindly follow what someone says, even if they are a "professional", use your own critical thinking skills and question the tools, the method, and the trainers.
    I am using all footage under the Fair Use Act for criticism and educational purposes, and do not wish for anyone to send hateful messages to the original poster. I hope to spread awareness about this type of unnecessary and dangerous practice that is so prevalent in the dog training world and horsey world, and to give these animals a better life. Let me know what you think of it, and what you would like to see next time! Until then, practice Patience, Peace, and Pawsitivity! :3

    Hey! I just got a puppy a couple months ago, and I've been trying to do research on how to properly train her and recently I was watching a lot of misinformation and got really confused on how to properly correct her when I needed to... After watching yours and other positive trainers, I'm realizing that it's better to prepare her for situations rather than having her in those situations and then correcting her. I've been using positive affirmation and our bond has been infinitely better and she listens to me a lot more and while wagging her tail now! :)

      @@K9Tay Thanks! I've been with dogs my entire life as my family has always gotten them, but my puppy Lab "Cyndie" is my first pup that I'm taking care of myself :). I also have started to volunteer at my local humane society and I'm going to try to further a career in helping dogs and people understand dogs! :)

    That dog jumping up could just be escalating appeasement because of becks reaction, which causes the dog to more desperately want to lick his face, or rising arousal and thinking it's a game. It's so interesting that these type of trainers will immediately jump to the least favourable interpretation like "he wants to fight" or "he wants to dominate" etc. So sad for the dogs guardians who usually just want the best for their pup and get told their puppy is some evil, manipulating, dangerous creature.

    I personally love Joel! His methods helped my dog very much with his reactivity and dominant attitude towards other dogs that could have resulted in serious fights. My dog lives a much more peaceful and happy life now. I like how he explains things thoroughly and shows exactly what he does, with good results.
    I respect your opinion, though! Different methods work well for different individuals. 😊

    This is hard to watch.
    I did this too but only 3-4 times.
    I love my girl and I learned this is cruel. I even felt bad for doing it.
    Now we are training positively for over a year and of course it’s working.

    Dogs also pee over other dogs' or even humans' pee to show affection like "we're family" but that of course only with close "friends".
    My 1st dog was a Shiba and I learned within 2 weeks that the "alpha roll" is a myth cause it turned her unto a screaming tornado and she would've faught back for hours I'm sure so I never ever used it on any of my dogs moving forward. However I somehow used it on my newest dog, at least it's what it would look like from a viewers point. He had a phase where his herding bite phase kicked in and when overstimulated, which happened extremely quickly at that point, he just went berserk and dodn't stop flying onto me with bites. He didn't mean to harm but it did hurt and obviously needed to be tamed down. Nothing, literally nothing could stop it and I'm experienced and up to date with dog behaviourism, training and such. What I then did was grabbing him around his chest so he can't reach me, sit down calmly and gently lay him in front of me (not meant alpha roll), holding him and massaging certain points that are said to release stress but as well didn't let him stand up until he realized how great it feltand as soon as he relaxed I let him go. Usually he just wanted me to keep going 😂❤ after 3 times he stopped his hard flying bites completely, even stopped himself during rough play. If done right it can help, however I would never teach it or advice to do it as it is very individual and one needs to get to know the dog first to find out if it may be a rare case where it is the maybe only as well as fastest and nocest way to calm him down.
    I hope my English wasn't too weird, sometimes I overcomplicate it 😂😂

    • @K9Tay
      @K9Tay  Před 2 měsíci

      That's great to hear that you figured out something that worked for your dog. I know exactly what you're talking about with the high drive biting obsession, so it's good to keep in mind a calming approach that might help particularly difficult cases. Also appreciate the tip about the family scent marking with pee 😊🐺

    idk i mean is prince really being a bully? you said he takes every chance to domineer but he seems like most of the time he's just running off, giving some corrections here or there .. maybe he ends up getting a bit too excitable back at the cane corso, but he doesn't really seem like he's being that pushy or anything in general

    • @K9Tay
      @K9Tay  Před 5 měsíci +2

      That's a fair point, and I can see that for sure. Prince does do a lot of running away until he is pushed too far, but I've seen a lot of instances where he is the pushy one, especially with anxious dogs.

    you mentioned near the beginning that joel 'doesn't do anything' and that he 'jerks' which encourages the dog to jump -- but isn't pivoting away/turning your back the same thing as that?

    • @K9Tay
      @K9Tay  Před 5 měsíci

      Absolutely! The point I'm trying to make about Joel is HOW he turns away. He doesn't just turn softly and calmly, he is quick and jerky, almost as a way to attract the dog to jump. Whether he does this on purpose, or he is trying to pull his arm away from the dog, this is likely going to cause the dog to jump more, because they will see it as a game. Similar to if you push a dog down or knee them.

    • @NoOne-hg1qc
      @NoOne-hg1qc Před 5 měsíci

      @@K9Tay hm... thanks, I think I may be moving too quick when I do the same, at least in some cases.. if I'm being pummeled I feel like I have to move super quick/react immediately!
      But I guess being swift and being soft/calm don't have to be mutually exclusive
      I'm surprised that you get good results from the 'putting hand on their chest and lowering them' thing.. I can imagine a lot of dogs that would be like "YAY!" and jump at my face as soon as I started to do that XD !

    • @K9Tay
      @K9Tay  Před 5 měsíci

      Lol! Yes I do get that as well sometimes, the nose to the eye or a lick on the cheek. If they get excited and do that often, then I'll try putting a barrier between myself and the pupper, like a gate or a doorway 😁

    How did I miss your Cesar video? That guy is bogus (I lived in Mexico for over a decade), and you’re right- Joel praises him.
    Addit: I noticed the Corso using his legs to push Joel away. It looks like he pawed Prince in a similar way. Can you recommend any books on dog behavior, and how to “read” their body language, and work with them in a positive way to reinforce a trust bond?
    I don’t always know what my dogs want from me (and vice versa).
    Thank you in advance. I’ll give my girls extra hugs from you.

    He is the one who wants the fight, as we've seen over and over. He's a relatively young, sturdy, man. He can handle that pup jumping on him and giving zero reaction at all. It won't tip him over like he's Tweetie Bird's grandmother. Dogs can't stand on their hind legs that long. Just stand there like a statue, let the dog tire himself out a bit, then give him a down command and reward for cutting off the undesirable behavior. The women there don't seem so dainty that they can't do the same.
    Run Joel run! Play with them ... like at all?!?! Do a silly game of chase and give them positive attention for that. When they jump or get too rough, you break the positive feedback loop and go ice cold on them and turn into a statue. That dog will pick up on his boundaries.
