Even if the Staal penalty on Mika was soft, I don’t think it was, Skeji had a delay of game penalty that was not called so if Staal’s hit was close, the refs corrected their mistake.
Rangers were looking to draw a penalty immediately after that missed call. Everyone knew it. Refs granted it.

He’s one of the best and the reason this Panthers squad will be a cup contender for years to come. But don’t come here for that kind of hockey insight. All of these guys on this pod picked the Panthers to miss the playoffs at the start of the season and most of them picked the lightning to beat them in round 1. @@PatDKI agree. I just think these guys go more off of gut feelings and vibes when making predictions. But when the puck drops vibes only matter to outsiders and has no effect on what happens in the series. Florida will always be a little overlooked because of the market they are in but I’m glad the smart hockey watchers are finally catching on to what they are doing and appreciating it
@@RajBaueras a wings fan, I think Holland was an excellent GM, until about 10 years ago. His last 5+ yrs in Detroit were abysmal. He left us with a terrible roster, no prospects and no high picks. Mortgaged the entire future for terrible, short sighted trades to keep the playoff streak going.

Garbage officiating, although frustrating usually evens out over the course of a series. The Canes had so many chances but could not score on their PP's and even gave up some shorties. The Rangers took advantage of theirs. LGR!

Even the broadcast was talking about how brutal the missed Delay of game was. I wasn’t crazy about the Stahl call either, but to not mention the missed call a couple minutes earlier is bush league shit. It was non reviewable - pretty obvious they saw the replay and were like “shit we messed up” and that was a make up call. They would have been on the power play one was or the other

Officiating in the nhl has got to be one of the harder jobs in all sports. Call on Staal may have been weak, they may have made that call to make up for missing the Skjei delay of game minutes earlier.

I don’t think there’s a city in the NHL more hard up and needy to finally win a cup as Vancouver. My grandfather wanted it, he’s gone, my dad wanted it, he’s gone. Now it’s me. God I hate that horrible disappointment that invariably happens. My whole life I’ve wanted to see two things. Aliens finally come and greet earth in a public way, and Canucks win a cup.
I have never heard it mentioned, but this is a side effect of expansion. Statistically speaking, the odds of any one person seeing their team win in their lifetime have decreased. And it doesn’t help when the teams that enter via expansion now have the opportunity to be competitive immediately.
I feel bad for Vancouver and Buffalo who weren’t able to get it done while the league was a lot smaller. It’s only going to get harder and harder to do it now.

I think with the "trying to injure" thing. There are two pieces. Sure, everyone is trying to hit as hard as possible. The target, or location, is what changes with the guys trying to hurt.
Before the start of the post-season I had Florida vs Dallas in the final. Still alive. Carolina lost in 4 straight last spring because Bobrovsky went on an epic heater starting game 5 vs Boston down 3-1. He was the primary reason Florida then upset Toronto & Carolina. Andersen didn't play badly, but "Bob' was red-hot. This NYR series was different. Andersen was back to what he did with the Leafs. He allowed soft goals at critcal moments. Some 'tenders rise up to pressure, while others wilt. Freddy's in the latter category. Not a 'money' goalie.

It hasn't be a "crapshoot" of a series. The Oilers were lucky to win game 2. Had that not happened the downward spiral could have turned into a 4 game sweep. Think about it. And now that it's finally time for the Canucks to face elimination we'll see their "desperation" form. They were arrogant in game 6 and sucked. The Canucks even had that dumb arrogance in the Benning era. But news flash, they don't suck this year, at all, and with Skinner in net it's no crapshoot. Now imagine Demko in net, but he's not even needed for now.

After next year Tavares either gone or back cheap and hopefully get rid of marner have lots of cap to work with upgrading D and G. Also have minten and Cowan hopefully competing for spots

Walking back into next season with the "core 4" in tact would fall under that expression about insanity being when you do the same thing and expect a different result. And you can't just walk Marner into free agency, gotta get something back.
The team just isn't close to being competitive how they are now. They can't score more than 2 goals a game against Boston, and then Boston gets beaten pretty handily by Florida. The same Florida team who made short work of us in round 2 last year. I just can't buy the narrative from the team, or some in the media that "this teams close, gotta run it back and break through". I just don't see it with this group. Maybe in a couple years if we retool, get Tavares and Marner off the books, and get contributions from those young guys.
