  • Shark day at St. Augustine Pier. Sometimes when you are fishing there is a certain fish or shark that likes to feed at that time. When I start catching blue, using the same bait, I will typically catch a lot of blues. The same can be said for Bonnethead sharks. When you start catching them there is usually a school of them around. Bonnetheads typically feed on Crabs, Shrimp, and isopods (sand flees are a type of isopod). There is one Bonnethead per Angler per day. They can also grow up to 4.9 ft but I have never caught one close to that size. Pompano, Red Drum, Jack, Bluefish, and whiting are also good at this location. Red Drum and Black drum seem to be more in abundance the further south you go. That could be just perception as well.
I get questions from people on the pier about catching sharks. It is "NOT" allowed to specifically fish for shark off the pier but if you are fishing for Blue or other fish and happen to catch a shark you can keep it, if it is "LEGAL" to keep.
Thank you and have a wonderful day!

I used to treble jig for large schools at that pier when I was young. St. Augustine is the nicest part of FL in my opinion.

Thanks for watching! St. Augustine is very nice. The pier is also nice but I wish it was a bit longer.

@@BeyondFishingFamily It was about 45 years ago until a giant hurricane knocked half of it down. There is still remnants of that storm near there on A1A when you re making that turn heading towards the old city along the water. There are still big blocks of concrete there (I think) from that storm, it was part of the bulk head.

@@hastyone9048 Interesting history, thank you for sharing. I know along the wall or walkway closest to the river there are markers where the water from some hurricane came up to.

thanks for watching! I do not know about the discovery channel but I did learn about the sharks. I could not understand why they always went after shrimp but I guess they like shrimp, crab, and others. I put it all in the description. It is good to eat but not as good as the Black Tip shark.
