Enjoy our latest video for our new single, “Stephen Hawking Sings Monty Python… Galaxy Song” which is available as a digital download from 13 April, and on limited edition 7” vinyl on Record Store Day 2015.
The song, which is the title track to “Monty Python - The Meaning of Live”, was originally written for the 1983 film, “Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life”. It has been re-recorded with the lyrics sung by Professor Stephen Hawking.
Written by Eric Idle and John Du Prez, the song is an intricate and informative lecture on the enormity of the Universe fashioned into a bewitching and, above all, highly amusing pop song.
“Galaxy Song” was previously included on the 1989 album “Monty Python Sings”, and included in the 2014 reissue of the album, “Monty Python Sings (again)”, in its original form - sung by Eric Idle - to coincide with Monty Python’s record breaking “Monty Python Live (mostly) - One Down Five to Go” run of 10 live shows at The O2, London. On film during the live shows, Professor Brian Cox berated the scientific inaccuracy of the “Galaxy Song » lyrics before Professor Stephen Hawking knocked him to the ground. Hawking then began reciting the “Galaxy Song” lyrics as he lifted off to journey through outer space. It is this unique rendition of “Galaxy Song” which is now available as a single.

And now he truly sings among the stars. Rest in peace, Mr. Hawking. :(
On Pi day, no less.
Heh... Nice... He HAS to be chuckling at that.
And Enstein's birthday!
Okay, this is getting weird... lol
Both Hawking and Einstein lived for 76 years.
He uses less auto-tune than most modern singers!

Underrated comment
this comment has got me thinking in the galaxy that we call the milky way
The greatest commentary on 21st century music EVER!
Stephen Hawking and the Pythons!? I don't think we, as a species, can achieve anything greater than this.
+Robert Williamson Morgan Freeman?
+BloodWolf752 He is great but i wouldnt go that far. But you can, for sure, and i will respect that :)
What about your ego?
If there's anything more important than my ego I want it caught and shot.
Stephen hawking was British like the all of those comedian, actors and such from Monte python
We as a species were lucky to have Professor Hawking. The planets' I.Q. dropped by an order of magnitude yesterday.
agreed
Not to be rude or anything but that is true as you put the apostrophe in the wrong place lol
Kopperr ... apostrophe after the s shows possession,as in the I.Q. the planet has as a whole.
Pardon me to intrude, but placing an apostrophe after the "s" in "planets" implies that we as humans have established life on other planets.
May Mr. Hawking finds peace in the afterlife though, he deserves his eternal rest.
ivan terrible don't try to turn this around. You obviously were referring to our planet as in "our planet's IQ dropped". Not only did you not accept the fact that you had made a mistake, but you felt the need to spew falsity by declaring that an apostrophe after the "s" marks possession, which is completely wrong because ('s) demonstrates possesion as it is and the apostrophe is only placed after the "s" when the word itself already has a "s" at the end.
You have to love Stephen Hawking. Not only is he the worlds most brilliant mind, he also has an amazing sense of humour and loves to have a laugh.
Now if only more people could be like him.
Yesssssssss.
PauseForGames He doesn't let the chains of physical existence get him down. His mind is still brilliant. You are correct.
PauseForGames He's english, Of course he has a sense of humour. We take the piss out of everything.
+PauseForGames Well he's a genius, so he knows better than any of us that you need to have a sense of humor and especially not take yourself too seriously or life is just miserable.
Besides who doesn't enjoy Monty Python?
+PauseForGames Sooo true:)
"And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space; coz there's bugger all down here on Earth."
Today, those words ring truer than ever.
Godspeed Stephen Hawking.
Troy Tempest I'm not crying what do you mean I'm crying I'm totally not crying
You mean lightspeed.
You mean relativistic speeds
in biology right now all I can think about is, let's say two parents have two kids with apposite jeans(one boy and one girl, she has falf of dadeis jean and the Boy has the other half) and then they get all hanky panky 12-25 years later, could they give birth to there father or mother?
Those words ring true for every period of time there has ever been a war.
Or, to simplify, those words have always applied.
Even Hawking singing is better then mine
Sorkvild than
Rodrigo Basoalto C. Yea than too
Nobody can sing better than Stephen Hawking
I love this song, especially this version. What a sport.
RIP Doctor Hawking, Terry Jones, and Graham Chapman.
What I love about Stephen Hawking is that he takes his work seriously, but not himself, as indicated by the impish grin he has at 0:19. This cover, by the way? Possibly the greatest thing ever.
Laura Dietrich He's also been in The Big Bang Theory a couple of times, and a Little Britain sketch for Comic Relief :)
Andrew Bulman And The Simpsons back when it was good x3
Is it just me, or does he seem to be capable if more facial expressions? Might just be me :\
Andrew Bulman He was also in an episode of Star Trek TNG. The only person in the history of the entire Star Trek franchise to play as himself.
iilikecereal He's not incapable of making facial expressions. It's just that it takes so much energy to do so
It really goes to show what a guy Stephen is to go along with this and have such a sense of humor in spite of the bad deck that life handed him. His intellect is a true gift to the world, and I'll always admire him.
Let' hope they finish his rocket powered wheelchair. Then he'll be even more awesome.
hey
I know right! Stephen Hawking has always been one of my favorite people. Definitely a good role model for anyone.
Not to mention the doctor gave him 2 months to live. And that was ~45 years ago!
Alexander Chippel Really? Huh, I didn't actually know that. You learn something new everyday!
Rest in peace, stephen
Rockthead555 Go fuck yourself please, and get out of here!
The Cleitom well said
RIP Stephen Hawking - you left us on World Pi Day - and the birthday of Albert Einstein - perfect timing!
I didn’t know those things. Fascinating! Thanks.
@@lauriejanes6511 search up Galileo and look at the date sfor a truly spooky cosmic coincidence

Rest in Peace Mr. Hawking. Enjoy walking through the cosmos that you taught us so much about.
ArpholomuleNutt don't let the troll get to you. He'll probably lose his shit when I say I'm polytheist and Greek orthodox. He's just a little troll, Don't feed him the attention he wants
rockethead555 well at least he'll be walking
rockethead555 Just one of they fruit loops, there's so many of you!
Scott Hutcheson "walking"
The first thing Dr. Hawking heard after he died: "And now for something completely different!"
That was a really good one. Bravo. Hilarious 😂
I remember seeing this for the first time and thinking "Did that just happen?" Then you have to remember Hawking has been on Star Trek and Futurama and The Simpsons so....
... aaaaand TBBT!
+TheOneWithNoFNnick yes, I was mainly thinking of good things though :)
Hm... okay.
3 out of 4. You still got taste ;)
And Superhero Movie (I liked it, sue me)
And he also beat Newton, Einstein and Data at poker in Star Trek: The Next Generation
Two years ago this had me laughing out of my seat, and now im crying here like a baby. The world will miss this man greatly.
Tell me about it 😔😭
Four years later and I am all misty watching this.
Who knew Stephen had such a lovely singing voice?
Jordan Loux eh it's a bit tinny
This is one of the greatest things I think they have ever done for Monty Python. The fact that Stephen is still full of enthusiasm and the the fact he is singing this song just makes me happy.
calm down. you'll be ok.
Yeah he's still going on strong, especially after he's gone through a lot with his ALS. Imagine if he didn't.
I mean we assume he's full of enthusiasm.
Admit it, he could be yelling his ass of and it would still sound like mild, robotey disinterest.
Stephen was and still is an icon
I'm watching this with the biggest grin on my face and tears in my eyes. I love this. RIP, Mr. Hawking.
That moment when Graham Chapman photos shows up, and you realise that also Hawking is not longer with us. :(
And Terry Jones now.
He has the voice of an angel
I appreciate what an enormous intellect Stephen Hawking possessed but I treasure his Britishness and total lack of stodge or elitism. Thankyou for all the wonderful guest appearances you made on TV shows. Thankyou for trying by at least pointing some kids in the right direction to go look at the stars. Fly free Star man.
Stephen Hawking has died today at the age of 76. May his genius and humor live forever.
Jack O' Lantern he may never be forgotten in human history
Next to Galileo and Einstein
I shared this video on my FB page in tribute, the day he passed.....
Why couldn't people live over 74? I'm crying because great people like him can't live long.
It was a miracle that he lived so much yet humanity needed him and his brilliant mind for longer.
A sense of humor and the ability to laugh at oneself is what tempers genius to humanity and allows us all to relate to a mind which is at a different level to the average. In a world of people who take themselves far to seriously Stephen Hawking you will be truly and sorely missed. To the stars sir and continue illuminating us all.
It still hits you now in 2024? 😂
A smart man who knows about space
Singing a song about space
This is a message for humanity
R.I.P. Stephen Hawking
I've watched this so many times today. Rest In Peace you beautiful, brilliant, truly inspiring, and legendary man.
Steven Hawkins, Brian Cox, and the Monty Python crew in the same video!?!?!
WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED EARLIER ABOUT THIS....

Oh I I couldn't do that

@@welshieranger4697 Thanks, Monty Python: I can't read "nobody expects [...]" without waiting for a "[...] the Spanish Inquisition!"... 🤣🤣🤣
Big fan of Stephen and Monty Python, but to be honest I don't much about the life of Brian Cox :D
This makes my heart happy ;)
TheGrandWhiteFox that just shows how many of our hearts he touched there's only one genius that comes about in our lifetime and I'm sure he's going to be immortalised in scientific history forever infact I know he will right now he's riding amongst the stars just what he always dreamed off doing.
I had the opportunity to meet this brilliant man. He made a lasting impression on me and shaped my future.
He was humble, funny and a genius in every definition of the word. Your brilliance will live on for generations to come.
I didn't think I'd get so emotional over this but tears are streaming down my face. It's been a couple weeks since Terry joined Graham and Stephen, but it still hurts. RIP Gentlemen
Respect to Professor Stephen Hawking.
For his work, his life and his great sense of humor. R.I.P.
This is why I love humanity, it just shows how great we can be amidst the constant shite that happens every day
From the stars we came, and in time, back we go.
Rest in peace, Sir.
"It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love."
The moment I saw Stephen Hawking smile my heart filled with warmth...such an epic group of comedians ;)
This actually made me cry. I love Monty Python but I REALLY love Steven Hawking! RIP, sir.
I didn't know how much I needed this in my life until now.
"An outstanding sense of humour relies on an outstanding intelligence."
This is the best lesson from Mr.Hawking.
"After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure", isn't it, Mr. Hawking? Something makes me believe that you would agree with Dumbldore on it.
Thank you for everything.
RIP.
Rest in peace, Stephen Hawking, the modern world could have never prepared for your perseverance and contribution to science.
I love his smile when he's listening to his singing. I'm so glad he was able to do it. What a well respected (and loved by so many) wonderful scientist he was. He made theoretical physics and cosmology accessible to the lay person. But not only was he a great scientist, he was a quiet inspiration to anyone with ALS and proved that anything is possible when you work for it. There is a line from a song in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" toward the end, "Don't dream it, be it." Stephen Hawking became "it". Rest in peace and tranquility amidst the "stars", Dr. Stephen Hawking.
Stephen Hawking - Forever the brightest star in the universe.
I didn’t expect to be crying on the bus to work today but oh well, thank you for all the feelings
RIP. When men like him pass away it’s not only a loss for humanity. All universe will miss him.
(this comment should be sang like the song)I'm not sure that the universe... got the news about his death.... the universe doesn't mourn, think or feel..... for that Im pretty sure.... but we all do of course... So saying the universe is intelligent to miss a human...makes the last line of the song even more brilliant and true. Bum bum
it can't get any better than this. period. epic win.
What if Neil DeGrasse Tyson sang this as a duet with Hawking? That would be pretty awesome.
I think it can get better. At least a little. Did you check the Galaxy Song Asteroids game? ;)
When humor and art meet with science and human strength then we can have miracles, isn't so???Just like this amazing video!!!Thank you all for it!!!
Rest in peace Stephen Hawking...
A tribute to one of the world's all-time great minds, Stephen Hawking, who passed away earlier today. And with a refreshing sense of humor, this great mind pays homage to other British great minds!
I'm not crying, you are...
He will always fly throughout the cosmos in his chair. RIP stephen hawking...
He now flies in the ever expanding cosmos that we now wanting to see just as he tells us to live well, share each other's knowledge to survive well in our planet in many centuries to come

I love Stephen's sense of humor, despite being an important scientist and despite of his condition, that won't stop him from making a joke or two.
Absolutely Wonderful! Best version of the Galaxy Song I’ve ever heard
RIP to this legend and great influence to me as a person who is fascinated by astronomy and science. Truly sad to see him go. Rest easy Hawking

Rest in Peace Sir Stephen Hawking, the Cosmos will never be the same.
RIP Professor. Thanks for your contributions, but also your sense of humor and seemingly inexhaustible spirit!.
Thank you, Mr. Hawking for showing us the miracle of your mind and the universe.

Seeing the human Stephen Hawking, not a cosmologist giant... Today, I cannot but tear up for our loss. Humanity is too saddened to let you go.
Today is an extremely sad day for the entire galaxy. Farewell Stephen Hawking.
