They talked about ON being something that they had big plans for at concerts that they didn't get a chance to do because of COVID but we say it many times at award shows where they did it on a big field with flyers and a marching band and we got a lot of epic performances at it. They performed it on Jimmy Fallon too and they shut down Ground Central Station to do it live there. Truly legendary.

"ON" according to the group is a reflection of the group's 2013 single, "N.O" an intense song that detailed the asphyxiating pressure of the korean society puts on young people to excel.
While BTS are now in their 20s and no longer necessarily feeling the weight of academic pressure or that of the adults in charge on their shoulders, they describe a foe that, in many ways, is much more threatening : themselves.
In these first lines of "ON" the group acknowledges being wrapped up in the glamour of waking up "in Seoul, or New York or Paris" and that with every leap they take to rise higher in recognition, the demons follow ("When I lift one foot, the shadow grows one step larger").
Fans might recall a poem Suga wrote in a 2018 episode of Run BTS, that reads: "It is true that the more light that burns upon us, the more shadows appear."
The "shadow" is a direct reference to the Jungian psychoanalytic idea that the human mind is made up of major archetypes that make up one's personality: persona, shadow, ego, and self.
Rapper Suga divulged his fears as he faces the perils of fame in "Interlude: Shadow," which begins the series of new songs on MOTS7. “I’m afraid, flying high is terrifying, he raps. "No one told me how lonely it is up here” RM continues with the same fears in the lyrics to "ON".
"Look at my feet, look down / This shadow that resembles me / Is the thing swaying in fact this guy / Or is it the end of my toes / There’s no way it’s not scary / There’s no way everything’s okay".
With the last line, RM echoes a sentiment he's expressed publicly before - that instead of ignoring or running away from the challenges they face, they must learn to live with them ("Together with that black wind, I fly").
‘There’s no getting over the hardships, we have to be friends with the shadows’.
They’ve talked so much about the intrinsic bond between the shadow and the person and the symbiosis of learning to live harmoniously as one.
But this single is far from an admission of defeat : identifying your fears makes you stronger, not weaker.
With the pre-chorus and the chorus, BTS begin their battle cry, singing, "Can’t hold me down cuz you know I’m a fighter".
There's an admission that while BTS reckon with the dark side of their "beautiful prison", they chose to walk this path.
In their 2013 debut single, "No More Dream" Suga rapped that he wanted a "big house, big cars, and big rings".
In "N.O" BTS asks, "A nice house, a nice car - could such things bring happiness?".
Seven years later, their answer is complicated. But even when their happiness is threatened, they soldier on, singing, "If you don’t want to be driven insane, you’ve got to be insane / I throw all of myself into this two-sided world [...] You can’t hold me down cuz you know I’m a fighter".
Why carry on when doing so "brings the pain". In fact, the pain almost proved to be too much.
In their acceptance speech at the 2018 MAMA, BTS revealed that the group had talked about disbanding after they had "suffered a lot". But with MOTS7's second release, "Black Swan" the group made it clear that it is their passion for making art that keeps them going. They said as much with the opening quote of the music video by the late dancer Martha Graham: “A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful”.
"(Eh-oh) Bring it on, bring the pain oh yeah / (Eh-oh) / Come on up, bring the pain oh yeah / Rain be pourin’ / Sky keep fallin’ / Everyday oh na na na / (Eh-oh) / Bring it on, bring the pain oh yeah".
Map of the Soul: 7 is essentially an ode to the things that have made BTS who they are over the past seven years - which also are the reasons why, despite any hardship, they keep going “on & on & on & on”.
In the Persona first-half of the album, BTS showed their appreciation for the little things that make them happy, and essentially wrote a love-letter to ARMY, their dearest support system. And in the second half, BTS give thanks to their strong friendships, years of hard work as trainees and rookies, enduring passion for the lifeblood that is music, and yes - even the haters, too.
"Even if I fall, I rise again, scream / For we’ve always done so / Even if my knees reach the floor, / as long as I’m not buried, / it’ll just be another thing of the past".
"ON" is BTS most passionate, striking rallying cry yet, and tells you much of what you need to know to understand BTS current ethos.
"Even if I fall, I rise again. For we’ve always done so."

Tae was all in white, Jungkook had the white top and black pants and he was barefoot along with Jimin, who yes was killing it without footwear. Hard on the feet that had to be. They were performing ON at Grand Central Station in NY on the Jimmy Fallon show. They were rehearsing at a location where the Grammys would be held since they were to attend the grammy and perform "Ole Town Road" (remixed w/ RM and Lil Nas X) on a compilation stage with Lil Nas X and others.

I’ve always thought that Jimin and Jungkook ( V was the one in the overalls who you identified correctly in the mv actually💜) were barefoot because they were practicing for another song called Black Swan at the same time ( that song required all the members to be barefoot because it has a contemporary feeling and the first time they performed it live they did it barefoot )…. Always figured they did the black Swan practice and then Jimin and JK just stayed barefoot for this😂
And they fully did just decide to go this hard for their comeback…it wasn’t for a special performance or anything since they performed it in full most of the time ( with the exception of comeback shows where they cut out the dance break in the middle)

Hi, again. Good reaction, ty. BTS have a choreographer, his name is Son Sung Deuk. Of course each song has different choreographers. ON and Dionysus for example, was choreographed by a 19 year old girl, Sierra Lalau. from The Lab a dance crew from LA. They won World of Dance and are backup dancers for BTS sometimes. But Sung Deuk is always with them. He even acts as one of the dance crew sometimes =0p He´s really cool. They do help add things to the choreography sometimes too, especially Hobi and Jimin and later on JK and V. =0) This is my fav MV. The cinematography is awesome. Loved that they used drones for the shots. They did perform this in concert. In LA, Korea and LV. We love this song and choreo. BTS are unique because they use real instruments and bands often in their songs. There is actually a small documentary behind the scenes about this song. Hope u check it out. This song has 2 MVs. This one is the dance heavy one. The original u should watch too. It's like a movie. The dance practice was for an award show. But this song performance fits the lyrics. U should watch and and read the lyrics on go to doolset doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/?s=kinetic . U can read any Korean song lyrics on there. Jimin and JK are barefoot yep. Good spot. The barefoot thing is used in contemporary dancing. U get grounded better. Jimin was a contemporary dancer before joining BTS. And JK learned this type of dance from Jimin and their choreographer of Black Swan. JK loves to dance too. =0} Hugs. Later's. #YouAreEnough -NY USA 2019 Army💜

Especially jungkook… he is so strong and does everything with so much power… vocal stability is one of the reasons he’s the main vocalist, jimin has contemporary training and it looks like this may have been filmed when they did the black swan dance practice maybe…. Where the whole group is barefoot… so they may have just wanted to build more stregth bc it’s much harder to dance barefoot than with shoes and bts performs black swan barefoot… but yeh jimin is a super fluid dancer who is so precise that it’s crazy… the one you thought was suga is actually jhope…. Main dancer, rapper, dance leader and loving breathing sunshine…. Yes our hope, he’s your hope… he’s Jhope and definitely is someone who will wreck your shit live… turns into a whole different person live…. I remember the first time it happened to me… there I was just quietly enjoying my ult bias jungkook being powerful and gorgeous and sounding like a griffin Angel… and then BAM Jhope rudely wrecked the shit out of me in the “no more dream” dance break 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 if you haven’t watched that mv and seen that live…. I’d suggest you check that out lol I date anybody to come out of that video not being wrecked by him…. You will never forget his name again.. that’s a promise!!! Lol good luck checking them out!!!

There is a somewhat recent mv by a group called OnlyOneOf that you might really enjoy, it's called LibidO... and it's concept can only be described as ✨homoerotic✨. 😬 The performance video (guilty pleasure ver) is reaaaaally good too.
I tell ya, for a 'conservative' country that has not embraced the LGBTQ+ community, they sure do love their subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) homoerotic undertones. 😄😄😄 Like, they never fully show same sex couples kissing, but they love alluding to it. I’ve noticed this too actually, however, I’m not sure how to fix that because that’s how it shows up after screen capture, but I’ll see what I can do.

I was going to comment what Sierra commented (below)...I got the impression they were all hyped up about getting to perform "On" at their upcoming concerts in 2020 but were very disappointed they couldn't due to Covid. Also the rapper you originally mistook for Suga was J-Hope. Suga was the rapper right after J-Hope. LOL
**Also here is the link to the official mv for "On"...czcams.com/video/mPVDGOVjRQ0/video.html
