Corin Halfhand made Jon kill him because the Wildlings were going to torture him to death already anyway when they got back. And Corin had implied to Jon when they were walking before that he wanted to make his death help Jon get accepted by the Wildlings to become a spy
Remember the Half Hand and John Snow talked about gaining the trust of the Wildlings and when John basically said “that’ll never happen”, Half Hand said “we will, if we do what needs to be done” and then had that little fake fight were he pushed him down the hill. He knew he’d have to sacrifice himself (let John kill him) if they were gonna get in w the wildlings, which they already knew was the only way either of them (one of them) could survive and at least get some intel as the Half Hand saw it. 😊

The only way John would get the trust from the Wildlings was for him to fight Corin Halfhand. The Wildlings hated that guy!
You guys are doing great. There is A LOT going on in the show, a lot that can be interpreted in different ways, a lot of subtle moments that end up being big. We have watched three or four times by now, and we still pick up on things we missed the first time around. Enjoy!

The wildlins would torture half hand a thousand times over. He's killed hundreds of them.
Pretty sure the walker left Sam alone because it sensed he's not a threat. Or it just didn't want a fat zombie in it's crew. 😂
You guys ahould find a map of westros it would help you understand where the wall is vs winterfell or vs kings landing.
Also consider the "hisory and lore " video for season 2.
It fills in a bunch of background information by telling the lore through the view of various characters.
There aren't any spoilers in it as long as you have seen the season already.
There are several seasons of them so don't watch 3 until you have finished season 3 but season 1 and 2 would help you understand things.
