Scuba diver Simon Nellist died in a shark attack in Little Bay, Sydney, on February 16, 2022, after suffering "catastrophic injuries”, according to police and ambulance services. It’s the first fatal shark attack in the city since 1963. Police said Little Bay has since been closed off. A day after the attack, several beaches in Sydney's south were also shut. Drum lines, which are used to bait sharks, have been installed across the area. Officials have also launched drones to try and find the shark.

Whatever the lady said was absolutely right. The ocean is the domain and home for all these sharks and other marine species. So we are anyways putting ourselves at risk by venturing in their domain.

People KNOW there are sharks in the water, yet they put themselves in danger because they arrogantly believe only others get killed by sharks. He was swimming in an area that locals know it's a popular spot for large fish. It's stupidity that anyone swim where he was swimming. His death was so unnecessary 🤦‍♀️.

Why is a great white shark attack in Australian waters such a shock? It's just ridiculous to keep hearing ppl saying that. The ocean is a wilderness & the GW sharks' home . If we dress up like shark food & go swimming in their home we know the risks we're taking. Simon was a dive instructor, he knew the risks. He miscalculated, was complacent or arrogant. In any case, he wasn't vigilant enough & paid the ultimate price. We can only pray Madam Great White did her work expertly & spared Simon any pain &/or suffering but ended his life if not instantly, within seconds of the initial attack.
We pray for Simon's eternal soul. May he find peace & joy in the next place on his journey.

The number of Great Whites is increasing all along Australia's coastline a lot has to do with the annual whale migration. Where you have whales you will have GWs. I'm obviously in the minority here but if a shark kills a human it should be eliminated what happens in the Masai Mara in South Africa when a rogue lion starts killing livestock and dare I say, people, it's tracked down and killed as is a man-eating Leopard in India so what gives Great Whites more privileges than a lion or leopard? In Western Australia where I live we have dozens of shark sightings had a 4-metre shark reported on Sharksmart a couple of weeks ago swimming in the Murray River estuary just a few metres from the sidewalk cafes. Kids swim in the river how dangerous is that. A 4-metre shark in that area equates to a Great White, Tiger Shark or Bull Shark as GWs have been reported in the river before I would suggest it was GW.
