I’ve been vacationing to the panhandle for over 30 years now… I’ve noticed an increase in beach fishing… that would basically train the sharks to come to the beach for an easy meal. How about let’s stop the beach fishing. It’s incredibly inconsiderate to everyone else. Go to the pier or take a boat.

I agree, but a pier isn't much better. Take it to an entirely separate location from public beaches where swimmers hang out (if you must fish).

Its more because amerikans fish dangerous sharks. But somehow put it back in the water OF A TOURISTIC BEACH
What you think that shark gonna do to swimmer?
Amerikans need to understand sharks are not disney cuties. They will eat any living being if hungry and confident they would win a fight
I see way too much weird trends of saving bull sharks and put them back in the water 😆

I don't know if that's right, this is where they live this is their domain and we're going to go clear them out so we can swim more without getting bitten or killed? That seems like trying to get the water out of your sinking boat with a dixie cup.

Exactly overfishing of sharks was what kept swimming at the beach safe
But ever since usa and lot of countries banned shark fishing. Sharks attacks increased
And keep in mind A LOT of sharks attacks goes unreported
Either cause the injury is not bad enough to need hospital
Doctor forgot or didnt care to add the incident into national shark attack stats
Or the attacks didnt get reported in the news

Yeah there are "more" sharks because some species were nearly wiped out, but that doesn't mean they have recovered.. Why do we need to allow commercial shark fishing just because people think it is fun? The market can't be that big. And using long lines? Disgusting

@katw22, your comment on beach fishing is right! There's no doubt free food impacts wildlife behavior. You see such restrictions at Yellowstone, but not at the beach? Citizens need to start pushing the city councils of these beach towns into common sense and proper wildlife management to protect the public better. Fish from piers and boats ONLY.

These sharks have been over protected so now they're so over populated they have to come in closer to shore to feed more than the last handful of decades. That plus a LOT more people each year move to the coast or get into watersports, swimming, diving, paddle boarding, parasailing etc. I go to the beaches now that I've gone to for a couple decades and it's 10-20 times the people in the water than when I was a kid or teen. Way more. So there's that also. Plus we protect seal populations and when they are overpopulated that brings in more and more sharks also.
I'm sick of the "but they're rare" excuse EVERY single attack and say you're safe but lightning strikes are much more rare and they say you shouldn't even be out in a storm and don't ever make an excuse for a strike.
It's because these beach towns and resorts have PILES of cash and rely on people coming and these towns and resorts have people that make sure the news always repeats the same exact thing. As you can notice each attack. The same thing over and over like a script.
