- They were a league of their own during World War II and for a decade after. 2018 marks 75 years since the All American Girls Professional Baseball League was launched. Many of the more than 600 women in the league either came from Wisconsin or played for one of the teams here. Joyce Westerman did both. CBS 58's Amanda Porterfield and Photojournalist Jon Jenkins sat down with the former ballplayer and forever fan who is in a league of her own.

I totally agree with Joyce....no 'true' ballplayer would ever 'let' someone win as that would be disrespectful to the opposing side, period! Thank you Ms Joyce for leading the way for other women to enjoy the beautiful world of baseball! I played in a women's league for approx 15 years and they were the BEST years of my life (how a blessed Mom and Nana). What is even more important here is that sports build one's character, teach us how to respectfully lose, is just one example of many. God bless you, dear....gentle hugs from Canada

I'm a Grand Rapids native. My dad told me that the Grand Rapids Chicks were immensely popular.
And yet the men still play in pants lol. Love those though girls:)
⚾️ ~ It’s crazy how certain types of men throughout generations just repeat their views on masculine women. Nowadays you have conservative men saying how horrible it is for society that women are not catering to their husbands left and right, so when I watched the movie “a league of their own“ just today I couldn’t help but pay attention to how they were saying the back of the 1940s if women played competitive sports that it was the “masculinization of women“.b 😂
If it was to happen today, these women would have to play against dudes saying their were women.
Only in a little league where the top money spender does someone get to win by allowing them to win. Regular baseball has losers 😂 today if your mom or dad spends the most you have the best position and everyone gets a trophy.... Sucks for poor kids when rich kids get the best cause their parents have the money for all the best this and that.
Sucks for baseball cause the best players are being looked over cause Richy rich playing pitcher just cause rich coach dad or mom says so😂
That's why I barely watch regular baseball it's about money now not the game. I bet you all the teams hire cheap players people who just want to play not for the dollar we gonna have some way better games then these B's games with taxpayers spending millions to still watch our teams suck if we can even afford to get to a game since the salary of the player makes it cost so much average person gotta work two jobs to afford out million dollar plays to suck 😂
