Interesting fact is that the houses you can't enter are completely boarded up from the inside and intact, implying that the the inhabitants might actually be alive, huddled up and isolated in their homes. And those that got taken are the ones that attracted too much attention by trying to be extra with roof signs or not being quick enough to board up every opening in their house. Also scary how little destruction there is, whatever it is that got those people hunted them with surgical precision once they made their presence known. So much theorycrafting potential with seemingly so little to go on, what a beautiful example of "less is more".

The problem is there is so little I can argue all your claims are false.
The people who went missing were the first ones and the world was raptures. It could be a couple kidnappings leading to mass hysteria. There is literally nothing reliable to go off of. Less is less, there is nothing but nothing.
“You got me lobster?” “Mhm”
Even if I'm answering late but a vanossgaming quote that is nice to see
@@silvisperteam9234 agreed, I spent so long trying to find out what map the video was from and realized this was it when scrolling through librarians videos.

6:53 that scream tho
The freaky part about the first jump scare is how human the shadow being moved, it sent chills up my spin considering how my brain registered such a natural human move movement on an decade old game engine
As janky as it is. Its still a viable engine to this day.
@@tearex8688 true but seeing such movement can still send chills through the body
That one moment on gm_oldspaces had the same sort of uncannyily human movement too! I think it's just a particularly well done animation from the base game, but YEAH it's unnerving as hell.

Not many "british" maps actually capture what its like being on an empty street on a quiet night. This really does that. This brought me back to my child hood man!
6:51 that scream of fear was so real and genuine. That's why I enjoy the librarians content, it doesn't feel pre-made or prepared for. It's just what you'd expect if you recorded your own game play. And I like it

Thank you for checking out my map! Also there is indeed a tutorial on my channel on how to make your own! (in case anybody wants to check it out) Love to see you play these maps. The gnome was supposed to have subtitles, seems like those don't work in VR. Also the map will change quite a lot after collecting all 5 gnomes (But I think I'm glad you actually didn't show this in the video, people will need to find out themselves :P). Great playthrough!
Holy crap dude this map was done really well on the haunting. That first shadow got me so bad. I had to pause the video for a bit to pick my stomach back up off the floor lol
Hi Lucia, I love your maps
@@squirrele.1266 thank you mr squirrel! :)
IT WAS SO HARD FINDING THOSE GNOMES 😭
So does that mean the gnomes were your doing?
Shambles never scared me.. not even this..
I find the whole town.. comforting.. strangely.. the light, the silence.. it’s.. nice.
same but I think that's mostly because it looks a lot like my home village streets
Liminal spaces have such effect on some people.
When I was a kid and cs 1.6. was still fresh, I used to pick up a map and just roam it, without any players or bots, until the round ends.
So I understand you perfectly
The morning version of Shambles has that feeling of being up at 6 am and smelling the cool summer night air
"That looks like an invisible wall" is the most paradox thing I've ever heard on this channel
It just feels so weird that everytime you play an abandoned map you always thought of someone stalking around you even there's no NPCs around and sometimes shadows can be mistaken as silouette of an person standing but ambience can be the creepy part of the map
Scare info for my more feint-of-heart friends! Video spoilers ahead.
Generally very mild visual scares and a couple of spooky ambient sounds, no sudden and loud map jumpscares/screamers - if you've seen other Haunted maps you more or less know what to expect here.
TIMESTAMPS!
6:54 - Mild map scare, Librarian is very startled - the reaction is arguably more alarming than the scare itself.

Also, interestingly the map's ambient sound seems to trick the auto-generated captions into hearing the word "foreign" at frequent, yet random intervals. Kinda creepy!
You’re a hero, i love these vids but i’m not always in the mood for heart attacks, so i always look for these comments, lol. Everyone bump this, so more folks can find it! 😄
I really like how you structured this comment, while I'm not feint-of-heart, I really enjoyed reading all of it!
Yt captions very often do this "foregin" thing
the librarian: this map so scary
Vanoss and his friends: KILL THE ZOMBIES!!
Good god. That first scare caught me off guard so significantly well.
I think a version of Shambles where it was the morning before the whole thing went down, and everything was completely normal would be cool. And maybe there could be an Easter egg that would trigger the whole event., letting you watch whatever happened to the town.
"You got me lobster?"
...
"Mhm."
6:53 mr. librarian you nearly killed me with that scream 😔
His scream scared the hell outta me l, then I started laughing at his scream
😂😂😂
I used to always think that the creator who died haunted this map growing up. Obviously it isn’t true but this map is still scary till this day...
The bells could as well be used to add the feeling of death, ever-present in the air, or they could even be used to signal that an emergency situation is present at this time, and make the player feel a sense of dread or urgency as you said in the video.
Never really put it together 'til now: "Hell-p", things coming from below, the church bells ringing - all sort of feels like demons well and truly boiled up out of the underworld to drag away those unfortunate enough to be in their path. Though they receded, the few that remain live between the fear of being next, and the need to scavenge what's left.
gm_Shambles is still my favorite map/video to date. I thought of it all the time, so to see a haunted rendition of it got me so giddy. It really was so atmospheric in the best of ways and even watching the original video I was expecting a jumpscare at some point, but it never came. All we got was a gnome at the bottom of a well. I legit got so happy I was stimming when I got this notif!
If you haven't already, you should try exploring the map "Abandoned Subway Station". It doesn't have any actual entities or jumpscares as far as I'm aware but the atmosphere and details alone manage to terrify me every time I play it.
Love the fact this exists, the first time i watched the original vid i totally expected jumpscares or something
The z-fighting of the plywood and the windows felt a bit distracting.
The official map has still got the same feeling of loneliness and that eerie feeling of being watched, but great video!
24:32 Since Librarian often talks about things he likes, one thing _I_ quite like is in a horror scenario stumbling upon completely unrelated horrific crimes/occurrences.
Official new name for "Taking a Dump": "Dropping Gnomes down a Well"
"Brb gotta drop some Gnomes"
Holy, it wasn't even the shadow that spooked me at 6:52, its was Librarian's scream when he saw it that made me jump.
Edit: I fixed the time stamp lol
dude same
Wrong timestamp.
Remnids me of the hl1 scientist scream
6:53 I wasn’t scared by the entity itself, but I was scared by his yell of terror
Love everytime Librarian uploads a haunted GMODVR map.
I feel like your screams in terror actually scare me more than the scares themselves XD
always loved the atmosphere on this map, watching your original exploration for the first time made me feel more uneasy and tense than any horror game i can think of despite the lack of real scares
its a bit sad there wasn't many scares in the streets, it seems like there were a lot of opportunities there.
There couldve been a guy in the distant or a guy watching you from the windows, pretty missed opportunity
It's interesting that this map uses a reverse of the ambiance of something like Phasmophobia. In that game, you walk around outside with normal outdoors sounds, and then walking inside turns it into that weirdly oppressive low humming noise. In this map, it's got that humming sound outside but then going into the first house makes all background sound just.. cut out. I can't decide which is worse.
I think that "I definitely just heard something from the attic" sound you heard around the 38:07 mark sounded more like footsteps on grass than something up in the attic. And it was also probably the scariest thing in the map outside that first shadow that peeked around the corner of a doorway. There's just something about hearing rapidly approaching footsteps but not being able to see what's making them that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end..
When I was crawling under the floorboards of that one house, i'm semi-surprised, and also very relieved, that nothing was down there crawling with me.
"And today the map we will be exploring is not gm_shambles, but gm_shambles"
Amazing 👍
I love this map! The first video featuring gm_Shambles is one of my favorite videos of yours and I'm so happy you got to revisit it again!
I love your videos so much. I'm recently going through some really icky irl stuff and it's extremely exhausting and draining, but this videos always keep my mind off of the negative. Thank you for all you do.
gm_Shambles was one of the first of your videos that I watched, and it was the one that made me subscribe. I'm the kind of person that rarely gets scared or creeped out, but there's something so desolate and mysterious about this map that makes it very uncomfortable.I watched that video several times because I couldn't stop thinking about it. And here we are again.
There's something about that primal fear scream that makes me feel like I'm not the only one who does it. I did it okay blade and sorcery in VR just turned around in a dark room and there was just an enemy walking at me all I saw was a silhouette of it and the blade in its hand. I then proceeded to grab it, punch it and bash it's head into the ground repeatedly. (I like to start with no weapons and use my fists until the first enemy is taken down. Sometimes I Captain America it and use a shield. Dark Souls parry Style but instead of putting my hand through them I put their face into a wall or the ground many times until they drop their weapon)
Literally nobody: ...
My dog when he sees the FedEx guy: 6:53
Before I watch this I just wanna say I love your videos and really like your commentary. I hope you can continue creating great content and have a great day!
i find that listening to Librarian's footsteps to be both very soothing and one of the scariest things about these videos. at some point I can't help but expect someone or something moving when Librarian isn't.
I'm watching you for more than a year now and i'm really proud that you're getting more and more recognision. Love your vids, i'm curious for how long you will be able to stand all of these horror experiences i'm always more scared than you and it's you that is in VR, much respect and i really see you having 1M subs one day. Peace!
6:51 that was the most genuine scream I have ever heard 🤣
You know having watched the playlist including this video countless times I am thrilled to see this map again
The things that i always found strange is that the streets in this map look almost identical to a street where i live, idk if its cuz all british houses look the same or what but it definitely adds to that sense of spookyness when i watch videos on this map
Your GMOD VR videos are so entertaining, I love your commentary.
13:31 seeing that trailer gave me a nostalgia trip back to the old vanoss video
Oh my God I just watched your other GM shambles video like 2 hours ago because it came up in my recommendations and I was like yeah this is worth a second watch and then you post this right after spooky coincidence
Very cool. I like it when a creator can draw upon the horror techniques of the classic artists, from the early 20th century, when we had to use our imaginations when listening to radio dramas. Sometimes, the things you hear, but can't see will scare you the most. I really need to learn how to create maps like these. But, yeah, the odd pair of red, or yellow eyes darting out of the darkness, only to reveal it's self as a cat will definitely scare one. Thanks for the video. :)
6:53 scream scared me more than the literal jumpscare 😭
I played this back in the day but I always more of a “build-a-world” type Gmod player, and the original gm_shambles map just screamed zombie apocalypse to me, even though it was more or less empty. The barricaded homes, the Help banners, it seemed like the perfect place to tell a zombie story.
Bro i love this channel. This belongs on my top 3
The long time between events/scares keeps you really on edge and paranoid, and when you went down into the sewer all of the ambience and background noise just stopped which I thought was really spooky
I love how this channel isnt even really a gaming channel in my eyes, so many gaming channels are run by people with no good commentary or boring personalities but the librarian is genuinely extremely entertaining, i mean i would gladly watch a 5 hour video of him playing american trucking simulator just speaking while driving. Hes so much more than a gaming channel. A whole aura or aesthetic
first video of yours i watched was the gm_shambles video. I still consider it your best video, it has been one of a small few that have made me pause the video because the anticipation was so high
There once was a man named pablo...
Oh man I remember going on this map one time with my friends and turning off noclip before they joined, it was so funny when one of them immediately jumped down into the sewer and I remember pretending that I couldn't turn it back on.
oh sweet, naïve Librarian. You don't need to spawn the safety glock in, it's not like it'll actually save you
The bells in the back sound like the bells in how the grinch stole Christmas from the 60s.
I listen to these to sleep sometimes and I was just starting to nod off when 6:51 happened. About flew out of my bed.
Both monsters lived here one being Mario ifkyk
I played this with a friend as soon as I knew it was out, didn't see a single spook. It was a little unerving as I have never played the og version, only vanoss/venturiantale goofing around on it so I never knew this map wad so large/spooky on its own
In my opinion, Shambles is the aftermath of a rapture.
Those worthy were taken and ascended, but those left behind were left with confusion and chaos... preparing for a danger that never came... until they decided to put an end to it themselves, or took each other out.
I like how an advertisement for septic plumbing came up during this video
I would've expected the map to be identical to the normal version, just with "Haunted" in the name to mess with you hehe
Never seen a piece of media get what its like to be in a British suburb at night so well before
It is said that whenever someone hears bells, it is the voice of either an angel or the universe that is calling out to an individual. Hearing bell sounds is a spiritual sign, and should not be taken lightly! 👻

@@sierra4actual no problem. It was in reference to him saying he heard bells through the map, and he wondered what could be the meaning of them.

27:12 anyone else see the shadow in the kitchen run by the doorway?
The cool thing about that uphill street around the 4:00 mark, is that it reminds me of my mom's old friend's house. She lived on a street like that. With large segments of the lawn either angled with the road, or with large sections of concrete raising the plot to be flat.
I really actually likeed the look of the street when I was last there, but now... It's got a more eerie connotation. It feels like you know where everything is, but you have no real way to go, and hiding isn't an option when the houses are opened up like that. It matches really well with nostalgia but with that added "you can't run or hide" feeling that would make being alone on halloween night as one of the last trick-or-treaters much more terrifying.
Come to think of it, I actually trick-or-treated there a few times. It's odd how memories show themselves when you least expect it, but it was a long time ago, so I don't blame myself. I actually think I should thank you because you've helped me unlock so many memories. Not just that, you are an amazing youtuber too! Thank you, man!
39:07 Imagine if Max Nygaard invaded your game and came charging down that tunnel. :P
Though I guess he would need to be smaller but still.
8:42 The last time I saw this exact room in this exact map, was in one of Tats Tops Videos for Gaming Creepypastas, I’m just expecting to see Ben Drowned outside that exact window.

Loved playing the original map with my brothers. Good memories here.
Your first scream and the shadow guy make a perfect jumpscare, thanks. Now I have to clean up. :)))
💀
Actually, you thought in the beginning 'bout that this looks like old childhood nightmare is really right. I had some, and i remember them even now.
I remember reading I Am Legend as a child and this street is exactly like what I imagined the book described.
Bro i was looking away on that first scream, i'm very awake now thank you.
Gm_Shambles Is already the greatest map Now when it's haunted ohohoh this is gonna be good
I may go back to this map ....never really explored it ....but this map would be 10x scarier if it was during the day ....especially with the silence
I think wether or not scares are more effective on creepy maps or normal looking maps depends on many factors. The kinds of scares, the atmosphere, how familiar or unfamiliar you are with the map or game itself, etc.
6:54 the librarian was jumpscared me XD
This was a map used in a VanossGaming video, lmao.
I always pictured this map took place in the left 4 dead universe, or just generally during a zombie apocalypse, but it doesn’t quite fully give that impression, maybe it’s more like that episode of the twilight zone, with the guy in the empty town, it really is unnerving
That first spook looked like a person in SWAT or military-style gear peeking the corner with a rifle rased. The defender remaining long past when his defenses failed.
6:53 i dont think ive ever heard anybody more startled than this
I love this map Rip to the creator he truly created a beautiful map

Seeing a british street that looks like somewhere I lived as a child, is so weird. What's more terrifying is seeing absolutely nothing. Makes you feel like you're the only one left in existence.
Its funny that i felt nostalgic about this map because of vanoss gmod zombie video
I remember getting the "being watched" feeling after walking through some Halo 3 and ODST maps that were devoid of players.

There's always was something wierd about going through empty maps even pre vr era. It's interesting to see one intentionally "haunted".
