  • Here is how I installed a Side imaging/Sonar unit on my 10' jon boat. And a simple solution to mounting the transducer despite the lack of space on the back of the boat.

    Great idea! Just got my hummingbird piranha and didn’t want to drill! Thank you!

    Great idea. I can't live without a transducer on my tm for fishing but have been wanting a second one transom mounted for idling around with si finding structure/fish. This is it. Now all I need is a worn out tm. Can't saw off a good one.

    I did the same thing. I mounted the transducer with a u bolt leaving the tube open. I have 6 ft rod with a T-handle to use as a shallow water anchoring pole.

    Thank you. Like many others I did not want to drill into my aluminum boat. This video solved my problem. Again, thank you for sharing

      Thanks!! It has worked great for me, and since it is easily removable, I've put it on a friend's Bass tracker boat for a weekend and the setup worked as well on that boat.

      I agree. Just got a sportsman and was trying to figure out how to mount a transducer without drilling holes in the boat. A lifesaver.

      @TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman  Před 5 lety

      If you take your jon boat in really shallow water in creeks, or launch it at places without a boat ramp this way certainly makes a lot of sense. I haven't had any problems doing it like this.

      @TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman  Před 3 lety +1

      Lol....It worked great for me. Thanks for watching! On a bigger boat a typical mount on the transom is probably better, but that would not work for my small setup, and this has proven effective and simple.

      @@TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman I like this because I have my little tin boat and then my other 17 ft beater. This way I can have a portable unit. I'm thinking of getting a 12ah lithium ion and putting it in a case. When transporting up north to my other boat, connect the battery and sonar unit to the mount with carabiners. That would be a nice portable unit. Thank for the ideas man!

      Hello LBO. Since we have a kindred MacGyver spirit, I thought I would update you on my decision. I have both a 30 and 45 Minnkota. My rig is a pretty much unaltered 10' jon (built in 1947...I traded a good cigar for it), and I mostly fish a private, very unfished 40 acre lake full of monster bass, cats and crappie. I am very blessed to have such an arrangement. Anyway, I don't use a gas engine at all. I use the 45 mostly. I think I will just move it toward one side of the transom and mount the 30 on the other side. I will mount the transducer to the 30 and not run the motor on it. I can lock it in the forward position and also tilt it up as I approach shore. Plus, I will always have a spare on board, which will preclude me having to paddle back in...which is how i ended up with two in the first place. lol. Thanks again for the video post and the great idea.

    You think this set up would work on a triple shot transducer? Asking because they are like 5” long don’t know if the extra length would be an issue.

    Does it receive signals while trolling at low speeds up to 2 mph being that close to the motor? or is it only good for still fishing ,

    • @TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman
      @TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman  Před 4 lety +1

      It works fine when trolling with the trolling motor with both side scan (which only really works when you are moving), and the 2d sonar. It does have a little surface disturbance on the engine side when running the outboard, but the side scan and sonar both work up to about 6 mph. Sorry for delayed response. Thanks for the question

    How effective would it be mounted out front ?

    • @TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman
      @TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman  Před 5 lety +1

      I don't know. If putting it on the front there is an adapter mount to attach it on the underside of your trolling motor. But I don't like the side imaging (what I use the most) transducer on the trolling motor, because 1. I use it when idling around with the gas motor, and 2. If the side image is on the trolling motor, then the image is always changing based on the direction the trolling motor is facing.

    • @jantonio183
      @jantonio183 Před 5 lety

      I mean mounting in the same way as the rear using you current mounting setup... Instead of picking up readings at the rear cause what you see on your screen you passed over and is now behind you. You should pick up the signal at the front cause then what you see is now right below you...

    • @TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman
      @TheLowBudgetOutdoorsman  Před 5 lety +1

      @@jantonio183 I assume that would work. I have hear of folks getting an electronic interference from the trolling motor when the transducer is on the front, but not from personal experience.
