I was at a comic-con a year ago, and one of the dealers had hand-written his price tags on his slabs. I found a Tomb of Dracula 1 in a 9.2 where the tag looked at a glance like it said $200, but under further inspection, it looked like the mark in front of the two "could" have been a 1 ($1,200) rather than a dollar sign. My smart wife handed the slab to the dealer but, rather than asking "is this $200 or $1,200?", she asked simply "what's the price on this?" The dealer took one look at HIS price tag and said "$200." So I bought it for $200. Sometimes, stuff just happens.
To be clear, TOD 1 was on my list, but it was WAY down my list, so far down that I really wasn't in tune with how much that book in that grade should be, but $200 just "felt" like a deal. It wasn't until later that day that I found out that the mark was indeed supposed to be a "1."

Wow! Great find! Best I've done is finding a New Mutants 98 Newstand for $5. Antique store had just bought a collection and it was hidden in the back. They said they hadn't priced anything, so I could have any comic for $5. I was probably the first to go through it.

A little old lady at a yard sale, most times, wouldn't even know where to begin to look up the value of their kids abandoned comics. My comic knowledge doesn't give me the right to take advantage of the elderly. A steal of a deal on an internet auction, is a completely different story, that's the risk taken, with an auction. Plus they obviously know how the internet works.

Nice.... 🤘 In all my years, I've only managed to get two lots like this. One was 40 books for $60. It was one pic with piles of comics fanned out. But i saw the very top right corner of Iron First #14. The second was for 33 books for $29. Once again, one pic showing all the books spread out. I spotted a coverless book among other coverless books just barely sticking out. It was a copy of Strang Tales #89. Not bad in my opinion.... 👍

This is why I educate my family about what things are worth, and why they are worth that much. I have the major key slabbed comics protected in a pelican case with locks on it with a piece of paper detailing the reasons why these books are worth what they are. That was exciting. Also I like your tips. Don’t lie. Words to live by. If you do offer more than they want, sometimes people get weird. Like if this guy is really willing to give me more then maybe I should not sell them right now. But I usually don’t run into that many great finds. There is so much knowledge and competition that keeps the deals few and far between. But every once in a while. Also u do have to consider the problems that may be under all the covers But that said don’t lie and if you think what they are asking is fair don’t try to get them to go lower. Pay what they want. I can’t tell you how many times I have been one step behind someone and they ask how much for all and I would give double what the seller wants and they get them down much less than that. I just shake my head internally and walk away. What can u do. You don’t want to cross the line and get in someone elses deal.

A lady at work knew I was into Spiderman. So she came in one day with a ultimate spiderman book #1 from 2011 still in it's poly bag. Turns out, it was Miles Morales 2nd appearance.
I said i can't take this for free. It's like a 100 dollar raw book. She insisted and i thanked her by buying her lunch.
I got it graded and it came back a 9.6.
It almost felt like I robbed her blind.

i like comics, but am not very knowledgeable about newer books. more of a dinosaur ,....thats why i watch your videos so i can learn,...!
ive bought lots of collections over the years,....and what youre talking about is an issue worth discussing,....
i prefer the seller have an idea of what they want or need out of the collection pricewise and then i can go from there,...
hopefully, everyone walks away after the deal happy.
wouldnt have an idea about this miles book, never read an issue......but- im more of a batman guy than a spidey fan anyway...looks in great shape to me,....
does everyone buy 2 copies of their books now-? one to read, and one to slab? or ...is reading old school now?

    1. I don’t know man that looks like at least 9.6 to me.
    2. I have a question for you. CBCS has a reputation for being tough grader’s. Therefore if you get a 9.8 CBCS slab you know that’s a 9.8. However I have a CGC 9.8 and I don’t know how it got a 9.8. I’m a novice grader at best. I may not grade harshly enough when I assess comics. Anyways I say all of that to ask:
Would you pay less for a CBCS 9.8 vs. a CGC 9.8? Same book slabbed. I’m curious. I get the “market” has said for years no matter how much CGC f_cks up we’re sticking with CGC.
It’s very much an abusive relationship in my opinion. “No, no officer I fell down the stairs. I’m just clumsy. That’s how I got this black eye.”

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  Před 16 dny +1

Lol hard to answer because i dont buy slabbed books. I only get books graded-after ive put in the pressing and cleaning work. But assuming i did buy them, yes id want to pay less for CBCS if im buying for an investment cause of the unfortunate vicous cycle we are in. Now just cause i like the book, and dont care who graded it, id also go with CBCS cUse they are cheaper like you mentioned and their label is really nice now!
