LYRICS
I told 'em all where to stick it
I left town with a dime to my name
I said, I'm done with all of my fake friends
Self-righteous pawns in a losing game
Got my band and a light that won't go out
Been burning since the day I was born
So I cried just a little then I'll dry my eyes
Cause I'm not a little girl no more
Some of us have to grow up sometimes
And so, if I have to I'm gonna leave you behind
Stood in line for so long just to picket
Something I will never understand
Aren't you tired of always being mad at the world?
Won't you just admit you don't care?
And lady, I don't want your pity
So don't feel sad for me
I got a love I would die for and a song to sing
Maybe we're both just living out our dream
And some of us have to grow up sometimes
And so, if I have to I'm gonna leave you behind
We get along for the most part
Me and reality, the light and the dark
We live alone, two different worlds
Me in a fantasy, you in your memories
But we get along
We get along
(For the most part)
Some of us have to grow up sometimes
And so, if I have to I'm gonna leave you behind

I love this song , basically "Get your shit together to better yourself in the future"
Well, then i agree with the message.
esmie Scribbs
Totally true
Yes! 2021 let's goooooo
yeah
@@giannanarido3593 yeah
1:40 omg hayley performed this song live recently and changed the lyrics from “a love I would die for” to “a dog I would die for” what a legend
seriously??? omg I didn't know that, that's awesome lmao
where is that performance from hehe
Rebelia parahoy
That's great 🤣🤣
Seriously?
i wish paramore could make a music video for grow up
so do I
+Maximus Aguila a video clip with all our exes would be a good idea. I agree :)
I know, right? 😁
Wish that paramore made this song a single. Only singles get mv's.
Or homemade vid clips and pics from their childhood to adulthood.
Seriously, I don't think Paramore has a *single bad song.*
edit: yall i was like 12 when i wrote this it ain’t a big deal-
forgiveness
@@SouzaL damn u
Souza L. U have no taste in music
Exactly
Souza L. Forgiveness is so good
Everyone keeps saying that that they don't want to grow up but I don't think that's what it's really about. I think it means you have to fight for what you want and not letting anyone or anything stand in your way. Even if you have to leave someone you love behind because they don't support you.
I think it's about 'growing up' and being done with that 'angsty teenage' phase; moving on to follow dreams rather than being stuck in a rut.
I thought it was about the fact no one really wants to face consequences in life, like working, taking care yourself, worrying about money....etc...
I'm pretty sure this song is about how she ditched her old band members and is making different music than before. A lot of people think she sold out and her new music sucks. I'm one of them, but that's not the point. The point is I'm pretty sure she's saying, "This is what I'm doing and I'm going to grow in popularity because of it so suck it."
Oh my god Paramore needs to make a music video for Grow Up! It would be epic! Hayley wearing her Grow Up jacket.......
Yeah I think it should be placed in school and then college and then on stage so basically it's her life in a music video
EnglishRose 13 that'd be awesome :)
EnglishRose 13 It should be in the same school as Misery Business.
***** Just for the throw back that would be pretty damn epic tbh!
+momorules2010 YES That throwback would be amazinggg I would kill for that music vid!
For me this song is part 2 of "Aint it fun"
For the most part 😉
Or still into you
Si
kimusic6 this comment made me realize how old ain’t it fun is.. nostaglia is killing me
No, Ain’t it Fun is after the person she is singing about and struggling with being an adult.
This song explains my whole existence, including my high school experience..
+love raee Same ;A;
Exactly
it explains my college experience.
@@jessehiggins6018 this explains my adulthood and beyond
after laughter is amazing but this album is where it's at
Honestly this is my favorite album. I like the knew direction they're heading in with after laughter, but the self titled album will always be my favorite
Brand New Eyes, self-titled, and After Laughter are basically at a three-way tie for how much I love them
@@issaphae9659 same
I agree! This album is a masterpiece.
Brand New Eyes is my favorite but Riot! is a close second
Honestly this is my favorite song from the new album. Everybody complains because they're "not the same Paramore" anymore because they matured and tried out a new sound... and, well, "Some of us have to grow up sometimes."
Initially wasn't a huge fan of this song, but similarly to Daydreaming, its slowly grown on me to become one of my favourites from Paramore.
Same here! that also happened to me with Ain't It Fun and now I can't help but dance along with it! Cheers!
"the songs you grow to like never stick at first"
if you know where thats from i love you
@@presidentidyote3127 FOB right? Dead On Arrival?
How convenient its 'grown' on you 😂
Here because I fell down a serious Paramore rabbit hole about 5 months ago and, well, I can't find my way out. And I don't want to come out. I love it here. Amen.
Once you're in, you're in! Same for me.
Am Ithe only one that cries with this song? I moved to another continent, I've had to leave so much behind. Living alone... and be far away from everything you love. I guess it's part of growing up... but... I don't know it's just too difficult of a process... The last segment of the song makes me remember everything I ever loved, everything I left and how I'd do enything to get back time to those years where I was happy and didn't know it... I love you Paramore, thank you, to me, this is a master piece.
Brian Joseph Márquez I understand the struggle. I left my school a few years ago to go to a different one. Starting over was the scariest thing that I've ever had to do. I struggle socially to this very day, though I do have a few more friends than I originally did. I'm happier now, but I always wonder what would have happened if I had stayed at my old school. I understand how hard it is. No matter how it feels, remember that you are not alone!
Brian Joseph Márquez That's the way of growing up. I'm from California and I might move to New York to attend a school. I'm leaving all of my friends and family and it sucks but I guess u have it worse because u got nobody over there with u. I wish u the best with your future.
I know exactly how you feel, right down to switching continents and fighting to smile again.I had to leave the only place in the world I ever called home and it's funny because this country isn't even where I'm from.I know it sounds cliche but it gets better and you adjust eventually
Ceci Smith Azazel julia stephens gosh! Thank you so much! It's been 8 months since I posted that comment and yes! You do adjust to the change, it just takes longer than I thought, and it's so good to see how much happier and emotionally stable I am now. I still miss everything, and I appreciate the good years I lived there but now I know there's a big world out there full of good moments and future friends, people like you guys! People full of empathy who dedicate time to comfort a total stranger, people who keep my irrational faith and love for humanity alive. Thank you so much, seriously, i can't stress enough how amazing each one of you is. I hope you all are doing great!
+Brian Joseph Márquez No problem dude! Happy New Year btw
i always picture this song to people who say Paramore needs to go back to their old style. like Hayley says "Some of us have to grow up sometimes"
I went to the concert last night. Post-concert depression is consuming me right now.
i've waited almost 5 years for the night i see them live. my dreams came true last night
It happens to me.
it hit me very hard
i wrnt to a show on November 17 and i still want to go back. Still have my balloon though!
I've seen them live twice. lolol.
I always seem to get a life message from Paramore's songs.
All the songs on the self-titled album literally help me through so much. I get so stressed all the time over random things now, and I freak out for no reason. But then I think about this song, specifically lately, and well, it teaches me to grow up and get over it. Thanks Paramore.
This song is extremely relevant to my life now. I'm graduating high school tomorrow. Wow. Time flies. I've been listening to paramore since 2nd grade. Wow.
i do think it's sad that the farro brothers left because they were founding members, along with Hayley but even without them, Paramore has become even more successful
They found a new band and split after like a year or something, I guess they just like to make bands and then leave 'em
Je suis Le Garçon they ended a friendship with someone they'd been friends with since high school and they paid the price :)
+pyrostrike uk Not 'they' only Josh, aren't Zac and Hayley on good terms?
+Tyhunte well, I don't know about zac but I know that josh has cut ties with hayley
+Tyrone Washington Yeah, everybody is on good terms now.
Got my band and a light that won't go out
Been burning since the day I was born
So I cried just a little then I'll dry my eyes
Cause I'm not a little girl no more
this summer , new paramore album confirmed
but it's autumn now
how do you know?
IM SO EXCITED
That part right there at 3:03 it’s literally the last 48 seconds I rewind all the time. Ugh. So good.
this band , I don't have many words to express myself, they've been with me since 2009 every day, they inspire me, they teach me how to look at the world as I now step into an adult life.. if you'll ever read this, guys, know that you have changed a lot in my life, so thank you
I was born in 2009
I haven't listened to Paramore since high school. Fast forward like 7 years and they are still killing it. I will see you guys next time you come to Red Rocks!
When they say "we" at 2:42 and 2:53 it used to scare the crap out of me when I was driving because it sounds like a really loud car horn XD
Oh ha ha ha
Yeah it does!!
Pie Warrior
Came back after this picture became the album cover for Self-Titled
Yeah, I liked the old one more tbh. The new one looks weird and isn’t really that good looking since they just reused another image.
Love this song so much! The lyrics are so amazing: "self-righteous pawns in a losing game" is a line I love!
Someone i used to go to school with met them at the airport before the concert. I envy her so much.
Got you beat, she was born in MY town and I ran into her months before she left for Franklin.
............wut?
The synth at the end is still my fave
I never get tired of paramore's songs, from when I was a teen up to now.
one of my favorite songs from this album
same
hype AF for album number 5!!
me too 😁
When is it coming?? :D
DanceToTheGrave
hayley keeps posting on twitter about them recording in the studio, probably at the end of the year or begining of next!! :D
Awesome! Thanks! They are one of my fave bands. I been a fan since the "Crush, Crush, Crush" days. :)
bruh 2017 is gonna be *lit* AF!! Zac is BACK BABY!!
Paramore forever! The best female voice to the punk rock. Delicate and strong too. Lovely.
The song freaking slaps
My first paramore song was still into you (I don't know how I came across it) and absolutely loved the song (keep in mind it was a few years ago when I never listened to rock). Then I found ain't it fun and loved that, so I decided to listen to some more paramore. Then I discovered their earlier songs, and that introduced me to the amazing genre of: alternative music! Paramore literally shaped my whole music taste, I now like Panic! at the disco, pierce the veil, green day etc.
To people who are unnecessarily rude about them changing their sound: "some of us have to grow up sometimes~"
Exactly!
Songs like these makes my day. I will always be a parawhore no matter what. Love you guys!
I love paramore and I always will :)
Love this track, Hayley always sings the notes that are unexpected but just fit so well.
they are just too darn good no matter what they do it's amazing even the album tracks are great
Paramore, one of my favorite bands for more than a decade now. Thank you for your music ❤️
The mood of this song is so dope like you feel like ur floating and it has such nostalgic energy and then the end is so ethereal and haunting idk I’ve never heard anything like it and I’m in love
ugh i cannot stop listening to this song, it's too good, and hayley's voice is just mmh
I still love this song after listening to it over and over again I love love love Paramore!!

I love this song!!!
This song is kind of more pop-ish. I'm surprised it wasn't a single.
Pop doesn't mean bad though, in this case it's not
Pop doesn't mean bad though, in this case it's not
love this song
This is so amazing describes my life so much so many friends I lost .ugh I love this song!!! Paramore got me through some rough weeks in my life 😃😃😃
Praise this song. This is helping me so much right now.
Evanescence and Paramore are the best there is.
Goff Luke I know right! I love both of them so damn much.
Metallica, Red hot chili peppers, Paramore, Fall out Boy, Panic! All the bands I consider my favorite
Cant decide if
Heres to never growing up or Grow up.
lol
same
hmmm well that's a hard one but I'll have to go with Paramore over Avril
So beautiful, it makes me crying!
fav paramore song at the moment
the lyrics have so much meaning
Hayley makes my attention grow up every single time she sings
I dont really want to grow up or stay young, I just want to be in the moment and learn and grow as I go along ;3
This song is so relatable to how this band want people to feel like when they think of a new direction for them but I think that it is just them discovering new sounds and miking it around and seeing if it works (which it does)
Relevant to the past two years of my life right here. Damn good song, makes me love Paramore even much more than previous.
3:02 reminds me of Stranger Things
Long time without listen this song and I felt the same when I heard that part!
OMG you are right
YEEEESSSS
No! Stranger things reminds you to Paramore
Yes!!!
I wish they would do more songs like this, with the slight editing and mixing. Those songs are always the best.
i remembered being their fan back in my junior highschool. i was 14 then, i'm 23 now. many years have passed and life makes me focus on things that I almost forgot about this band. now i'm a high school teacher, doing my powerpoint presentation for the opening of classes, and i'm having a major throwback with their songs. i'm quite shocked i know plenty of their songs, mostly the old ones.
Why is Paramore so good? I can't stop listening.... how I wish I was born at this time, in this country
This shit hits harder when it has actually become a reality. I'm a young adult now. I feel like I've outgrown a lot of people already but I feel most connected with myself
Great song
Classic!!! That bridge is everythingggg❤
I told 'em all where to stick it!
I left town with a dime to my name
I said I'm done with all of my fake friends
Self-righteous pawns in a losing game ♥♥♥
This song reminds me of me having an arguement with my friend.. She was all nice, then she became... mean, and acts like she's spoiled now.
that's not growing up that's just being a bitch
***** lol
mine outgrew me because I was ruining his reputation at college. I was uncool and too young for everything. We were close friends in high school he was like my big brother then all of a sudden I graduated and went to the same college as him(got rejected from other choices) and he changed. I cried a lot over him. I tried changing myself. I tried drinking and partying like he did and I wasn't happy. One day he grabbed me a bit too hard and it hurt me a bit. I then thought back to when he said he would never hurt me and I made him promise. I told him about the abusive males in my past and he still did that anyway. I have never been this afraid of a guy since I was 13. At that point he was just like everybody else. He said I made him that way. I feel like its true. I annoyed everyone I came around and I wasn't ready or mature enough for college. I lost him because I refused to grow up and let go of his empty promise
I love this song i was singing it all day yesterday...i got the album...its on replay on my dvd player .... i jst hope d CD does nt stop playing...
i love this band ever since... woooah
Please god let Paramore make a full space rock album with dreamy melodies and synths one day

I'm a kid and this song relates to me because i lost a family member and i'll grow up and have to forget him wich brings along the part of the song "some of us have to grow up sometimes and so if i have to i'm gonna leave you behind."that relates to me
Nodding my head...(Singing) If I have to,Im gonna leave you behind! :)
Lol so true !
My favorite song from this album. Awesome ending.
I've just listened this song for the first time and I already think that's one of my favorite songs in this album
This whole song explains their whole change and stuff.
and maybe their whole existence :D
Best. Band. Ever.
Y.e.s
Love this one !
A great comeback for Paramore !
Saw them when they were in Perth on the 16th and can not stop listening to this song i definitely have post-concert depression and it sucks so bad really hoping they come back soon

my gosh, i love this song so much
I love Paramore
This is almost 10 years old? Damn, I guess I've grown up.
The end to this song has a very angles and airwaves feel to it and I love it
I’ve known this song for 5 years, since it came out and I’m just now starting to understand it as a 20 year old. Love it so much
It's 2019 and I'm still into Paramore.
Oct 2019 anyone?
