One of the reasons I enjoy Henning’s wit is his use of British colloquialisms. Another is his ability to laugh at jibes about Germany’s dark past.

Henning Wehn is just an extremely naturally funny guy. Doing stand up or on panel shows, he's always hilarious.
Heard him say he was getting heckled by football supporters at a gig when they were singing 2 world wars and one World Cup doo dah he replied in Germany we sing no world wars but 4 world cups doo dah doo dah day. Very funny man

It took all of the Allied forces to win. If you are implying the Americans won, that would be just as silly as saying The Brits won. Hell, even Hitler lost the war cause of himself. Not the brightest in controlling his forces and choices.

Wouldn't call a country with as many censorship laws as Germany the best at democracy, but the others are pretty much on point lol
@@lfcmike12 German censorship laws are very lenient and the ones we do have are seldom enforced. Admittedly we have a few extremely outdated censorship laws dating back to the Bismarck era which need some revision but free speech isn't an issue in Germany.
Unfortunately we also do allow misinformation to be spread by people who exploit others for personal gain and seldom punish it but that's a side effect of being a free country and I wouldn't want it any other way.
That UKIP-Bismarck one is 100% true, so it's real dark humor that makes it so funny.

I love Henning. I first heard him on a Radio 4 broadcast when he was a guest in a topical lunchtime news satire show. He was introduced as the German Comedy Ambassador, and he introduced his guest spot in the show as his Saturday Surgery, or SS as he preferred to call it. ha ha ha

"Don't Mention the War" would make a good name for one of his comedy tours.
I saw Henning a few times at various clubs many years ago. His English wasn't that great back then which made his delivery a bit stilted at times but he was still one of the funniest comics on the scene at the time. His comebacks are not only funny, they are also lightening quick, intelligent and make you think.
And not in his native language.
Henning is brilliant! He can take a whole barrage of jokes against him and he's a funny German! A rare breed!

Henning is one of my favorite comedians; not so much because he is the very funniest, but he is such a lovely, witty and obviously wise man. (I say this as an Australian who loves 'British' comedy.. and yes, lets really not mention THE war!)

@@rubaluva What you said is true, but the reason they were still hard at it in winter was because the Red Army turned out not to be the pushover Hitler had claimed they would be. In fact ,Hitler was so confident of an early victory that the German troops were not issued with winter clothing.

As a German, I didn't know Henning Wehn at all. But yesterday, King Charles spoke in German in the Bundestag (very impressive) and praised Henning as an intercultural ambassador. Rightly so. What a great guy!

When in Berlin at an underground station near the reconstructed 'Checkpoint Charlie' was a large advert for an English language school. Along with the address and other contact details it stated: 'We have ways of making you talk!'.

Stepped out of my hotel in Remagen and was accosted by an old bag lady in a manky raincoat and long grey hair that looked like it hadn't been washed since the end of the 3rd Reich. She had the audacity to call us American Schweinhunds. I took great exception to this. I replied "Madam, I will have you know, we are British".
