    A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is an essential component in modern diesel engines that captures harmful soot particles to reduce emissions. Over time, the DPF can become clogged, leading to decreased engine performance and increased fuel consumption. Cleaning the DPF regularly is crucial to maintain optimal engine function and avoid costly repairs.

    Have cleaned dpf in my 2008 x5 by using hot water in a garden sprayer connected to pressure sensor on filter. Just warm car up and give little squirts fron sprayer, great results.

    I've been so excited to see this one!
    May I ask a few questions?
    Are these cleaning products easy to get, or are they more market specific?
    And would it be possible that if someone less experienced than you did such a job that the ashes would maybe clog up the filter, or does the rinse and stronger chemicals take care of that?

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Hi and thanks for the great questions. These chemicals are available in any hardware shop. The drain gel is a world wide well known brand that you should be able to get in any supermarket. The brick and patio cleaner contains hydrochloric acid which you should search for if you can't find it under the same name in South Africa. Just make sure to wear some gloves and face protection as this stuff is strong and can cause serious problems if it went into your eyes or skin. Glad to hear that you are enjoying the content. I have received very good feedback so far which makes me feel good to be able to help so many other people all over the world🙌🙌🙌

      One more question, sorry I forgot to ask in the beginning!
      Does it matter which side you put the chemicals and water in, is it best to put it through the dirty engine side or the clean outlet side?

      @@Infj-62 I got the idea from a scientist who tested both chemicals on stainless steel and had no reaction. Depending on the grade and purity if the stainless sometimes it might discolour it but if well rinsed it will not corrode the metal. I have personally tested it many times and no issues

    Great guide, probably simplest on the YT, so I will follow it in near future. Quick few questions though:
    1. do you need to remove all temperature sensors ? It looks like you got them off, but I'm a bit afraid that they will fall apart.
    2. Are those chemicals safe for catalistic converter which is a part of my DPF box and can't be separated.
    Thank you for any answer!

      @TheKeenMechanic  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi and thanks for watching.
      Definitely remove the sensors otherwise they well get damaged.
      Those chemicals have been tested extensively by a guy who is a scientist and knows his chemistry. Do some research and you will see for yourself. It will discolour the metal a bit but it will not cause any damage to the stainless steel or the precious metal in the cat and dpf core.
      I have personally used this method on many cars and never had any issues.
      Carry out with confidence and wear eye protection as these are strong chemicals🤝🏻

      @wajdulis77 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi. Thanks for quick answer. I'm not questioning the method here, I think this video is the only one mentioning the ash removal and I can clearly see the proof with my eyes. I've found different YT video where different chemicals been tested (maybe the same as you mentioned) and 2 stage clean is recommended, for soot and ash separately - again you are only one doing this. All off car dpf cleaners available are mostly concentrated on soot, I do not think my car got problems with that at all. Simply almost 700 regen cycles left enough ash to restrict the flow and I want to focus on this. Exact same chemicals are available here, do I simply do what you have done. Have you left the dpf to soak in or flush it promptly at any stage of your cleaning?

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@wajdulis77 You can soak in and leave in the brick cleaner acid. I spent several hours soaking, rinsing, shaking, rinsing and soaking in the chemical for best results. If you follow my tutorial you can't go wrong. Some people use a pressure or a power washer but I was afraid in case it damages the core. Best of luck and hope you make it as clean as new. If you are doing this on BMW you can use ISTA+ diagnostics to register the cleaned DPF as a brand new one which should reset the count.

      @@TheKeenMechanicgot all the info and already bought the stuff, just waiting for a bit warmer weather here in UK. Sadly I do not have BMW yet (got ISTA+ though) but in my current car I can reset all DPF adaptations through dedicated software as well. I'll definitely come back with the results; it just can take some time though as spring is still 2 months away. Thanks again!
