August Sale of new Olight New Tools: Arkfeld Laser/Light, Otacle Utility Knife & Otacle2 EDC Pry bar tool. begins now. These three tools really address innovation in Olight's EDC space. The Arkfeld is moving away from battery-shape driven lights and into what I call beam lights as in a wooden beam. The Arkfeld also incorporates a bright green laser as well for pointing out things and playing with cats.
The Otacle utility knife is a solid entry into this crowded space but offers a colorful and well finished utility blade handle.
The Otacle 2 is a real step up in the EDC pry bar space with a solid and handy chunk of steel that rides well in the pocket. Best I've carried!

That utility knife looks really slick, I've been looking for something exactly like it and all I find in the stores are over-wrought over-complicated knives from the Power Ranger design school or cheap junky crappy ones.
But this thing about putting bottle openers on every single thing is stupid and has got to end.

A flat bottom to facilitate a vertical laser measurement would be nice. Lately, I've been using that cheap Ryobi cube laser to measure and mark can lights, but that thing could be a nice addition to the tool bag with a few improvements...
Edit: Mea Culpa - looks like this thing stands up nicely after all - and a magnetic base to boot? Sold.

EDC utility knife already out of stock? I have one like it that I've kept on my keychain for 5-6 straight years now. It's getting loose holding the blade in so I think it's time to get a new one before I cut myself.

Hi Doc. I was wondering if you could help me? Sorry it’s not about this video though! Thank you for all your videos and love your channel! Older Leatherman wave-what size do I need to change the plier head from a rebar(I have the special wrenches for that) but don’t have them for my wave? Seems like a security t8 but mine was a cheaper one? Just wondering if you can help-I got the rebar with the replaceable cutters and wanted to switch them is all-thank you and have a good day

Leatherman uses many security torx fasteners. The bits are easy to find in sets but you can probably find an individual one on Amazon. If you’re gutsy, you could try to drill out the center security stud but the right tool for the job is better.
I disassembled a SOG multi tool to remove the sharp blades and awl for airline travel. So far so good.

i hope more companies start messing around with the shape, i still dont get why there isnt more polymer lights. i get its because they ground out on the body with the batteries, but its way lighter, youll feel the heat less from the led, and most importantly, you can bite on it lol

Many, many years ago, in the early 70s, I found out that green is brighter and more visible. I discovered that with my Bow yardage sight pins. For my pistols I still enjoy shooting a polished gold bead but nowadays with my old eyes a green front sight sure is much easier to get on target.
I like that Parrot knife, nice carry size. I have carried a ZT 350 since they released them but they are quite big and hefty. How has that Parrot held its edge? I do use my knife often.
That and I have carried a Case pocket knife from the age of 9 or 10. Right now it is a Stag handle Stockman. Lol, last month was a blue bone Peanut.
Thanks again for another great video brother.
    Stay strong.

Sounds like you have some history with knives. Not sure Case knives has ever been mentioned here before. The Parrot’s blade steel should hold up much better than the Case stainless (440 or 420c I’m guessing). It is a thin flat grind so consider that with cut placement. More similar to a kitchen knife than a hunting/tactical one.

That's probably because I'm older than most of your subscribers, in my 60s.
I have always carried a pocket knife, years before these pocket clip knives were main stream. Same with my pistols, a 1911 will always be on my side.
I probably have 60 or 70 knives around here, at least 25 are case. That ZT 350 I mentioned has been a pretty regular staple. I just realized recently that I always have three knives on me. Pocket, pocket clip and my Wave. Unless dressed for Church or something along those lines. The Leatherman isn't normally on my side during those times. But it is in the truck.
From a personal standpoint I really appreciate your videos. I enjoy the way you present a item, the common sense approach. Excellent job sir.
      Stay strong brothers.

I disagree on that prybar “problem”. I ordered once a thin china made 2$ thingy and use and abuse it for everything!! I have it as edc on my keys and wouldn’t want a bigger one. Sometimes its a bit thin true but than it’s mostly the wrong tool for the job hence the abuse. It never buckled or bend on me.
Great video keep up the good work! Thanks

Thanks for watching. The small ones do small things. Stuff I used to just use a key for. But while the bar might survive, it hurts my hand to press harder. And that working space between a house key and a full sized pry bar has been one of screwdrivers, pocket knives and tool handles. The Otacle2 really fits nicely into my EDC. Small trim finishing prybars work well to except for the bent end.

      Haha everybody has THAT screwdriver!
I do admit a proper tool is all ways bather that a doo all master of none.
Sins i mostly carry only a pocket knife and my keys as EDC that tool must be the best because it’s the only one… most of the time.
When I’m at work as a technician I doo prefer high quality tool: knipex, wiha, wera, Atron, stahlwille, PB swiss and so on. Putt in a soft tool bag fron B&W.
I have a question for you: what are 3 tools without you could work? Or maybe just be a really really bad day!
For me: a torx t10, knipex cobra 150 or less a set of combination open-box-end stahlwille wrenches [( 8mm, 10mm and 13) count as one haha]

I have no more room in my pockets for a thick pry bar. I’m carrying a Sig 226 legion, extra mag, two knives, an iPhone, a wallet, keys…I don’t think I’ve ever thought: I need a mini pry bar. I don’t even carry a light because my phone has a suitable light. And I’m old so I’m home at night. Best Regards

Thanks for watching and sharing your list. In my experience iPhone lights are great for arms-reach distances but impossible to ID targets beyond that. Until Apple integrates a spotlight into the iPhone, a dedicated flashlight will always be in my pocket.

I'd actually bought a Parrot yesterday on the secondary market. BNIB for $30, couldn't resist. I'll let you know how it works out. As for lights, I own a Wedge. Beautifully built, however, lacks a lower lumen function making its use limited. FWIW, I paid $66. Maybe it's solely due to the visual, the Olight product does not look nearly as durable. Truly dislike the EDC utility knife. The prybar looks somewhat useful, definably more so than the Lynch.

Good score on the Parrot. Adjust the pivot bolt to your liking and master the thumb deploy and thumb unlock-index finger close. Then that Parrot will fly.

I see Olight's trend of creating e-waste like cellphone copmpanies continues - there's absolutely no reason why a flashlight should be use non-replaceable batteries and a proprietary charging system.

I haven't seen an olight without replaceable batteries other than one small keychain light I had out of the three. But this Arkfield looks like it may be the exeption. As for the charging system I think it's superior to usb-anything and compatible with almost every other olight as far as I know.

    • @user-dn8kg1yk6x
      @user-dn8kg1yk6x Před rokem +1

@@hailbaphomet They have plenty of other products without replaceable batteries like their Bike LED lights, their Bulb lamps, their big lantern light, and their Swivel COB light, etc.
Their magnetic charging system requires you to carry around their charging cable that literally works for nothing else on the planet, and except maybe 1-2 models require using their customized Olight cells for it to function. On a trip off grid and forgot/can't find your magnetic cable? Cable got damaged? Too bad you can't use another USB-C cable that almost everything else does nowadays.
They are copying Apple's strategy of trying to maintain a closed ecosystem and decrease the useful lifespan of products(thereby forcing you to upgrade sooner) by not having the batteries replaceable. At least the EU is forcing Apple to switch to USB-C in the next couple of years to reduce some of their wasteful practices.

Olight has an interesting marketing plan. Obviously I am part of it (100% voluntarily). The plan seems to drive excitement through punctuated bursts of advertising saturation. Then it goes dormant for a month or two only to rise again. Whether or not is it sustainable is up for debate, but either way, it’s a fun ride. And I throw plenty of love toward Surefire and and some to Ledlenser as well.
