    Owned a ZL 1000 in 2007 till 2016 bought it as a basket case . Restored it and drove it 10 hours to mid Ohio motorcycle meet in 2009 and again in 2011. Used to belong to ZL owners club for several years but I sold it to a guy that couldn't live without it. And moved on to other projects. But it's still one of my favorite bikes of all time.

    I had a 1986 ZL600 Eliminator. It was a 600cc, 6-speed, 4-carb bad boy, with a slightly detuned GPZ engine for street use, and did I say it ran like a scalded-ass ape. Loved that bike.

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1985 ZL900 was my first bike in my 20's. I still love these bikes. Now that I am older and questionably more mature, I'll be buying one when if I
    can find an unmolested bike. The only real downside to the eliminator is the small tank. I was always the guy on long trips that needed gas. The upside was that my backside never got sore on long trips.

  • @davidboydarnott417
    @davidboydarnott417 Před 9 dny

    I bought a 400 DOHC Limited Edition Eliminator with Dual Front Discs ,from a guy who couldn't get it to run ,for £350. It wouldn't rev above 4000 rpm without spluttering, I took one look at it, and noticed a gap between the carbs and the airbox, squeezed the two together and Bingo! It revved clean up to 15,000rpm. I test rode it, took it to friend and got £450 and a backie home from him. It was a classic 70's style , like a small Dyna, but I wasn't into them at the time so just made the easiest 100 bucks ever.😂😂
    I'm an age old hand at repairs on outboard motors, cars,bikes and houses but I enjoy listening to Joe , always something to learn, and he's not Patronising, he explains the valid reason for doing things.👍

      No worries brother!!!... As far as your Speedo going bongo...first thing I'd look at is the speed sensor itself....see if it's got metal swarf stuck to the tip of it from inside the trans that may be confusing the signal it's producing....
      Past that, trace the wire up from the sensor and see if it may be coming into contact with another wire(shorting) or running close to a plug wire that may be arcing over and corrupting the signal......late model Harley electronic speedos are usually pretty bombproof, and usually they just plain work, or they don't.....your local shop may have the ability to diagnose the Speedo itself, or you may need to see Harley about it, but check the sensor and wiring first!!

    While I might have wished to been a part of the heydays of the 1960s muscle car era, I have zero regrets that I was actively part of the motorcycle technology boom of the early-mid 1980s with so many fond memories of those first V-4 Hondas, radical ZLs, VMax, and Fazers, then of course the Ninjas, Hurricanes, and GSXRs...absolute dealership rat with my walls filled with so many brochures of all my dream bikes, which led to my brand spanking new Interceptor in 1986!
    At the very least your ZL-9 deserves to be put back to stock paint, correct seat, and a full detail. Never did care for the ZL-1000 with its changes to the seat and other cosmetic details, but those 9s sure were the dogs dangles- even if you weren't necessarily a Kawi fan.

GPZ900 engine in a cruiser that handled (for its time) was as many smiles per gallon as I needed, front was rarely on the ground. It is good to se Her two wheels, Blockhead, etc. but many people don’t have money for the things the ride and talk about.
    So this makes more sense to many regular people 🏍️😎👍🏻
    Nice to have the old Shadetree back

    Yip! I set a bike on fire coz it was flooded and my pal said " pull the plug and kick it over and the gas will come out" but when I pulled the plug , i put it back in the HT lead so i wouldn't lose it, so when i kicked the bike over fuel came out the barrel and the exhaust and on the second kick the whole lot went up and was burning under the gas tank. I had to run in my house for a basin of water which did the trick. 😅😂😂

    These bikes here in Europe are unfortunately well known for blowing up the engine: ... cylinder 3... Especially under high pressure and high RPM's (high speed): The piston in cylinder 3 seizes and the connecting rod breaks off just below the piston and completely slottes through the crankcase causing the oil to squirt out under high pressure and all the other pistons also seize due to a lack of lubrication, just like the crankshaft big end bearings will seize. I worked in a motorcycle shop and we had dozens of water-cooled Kawasaki 4 cylinder engine blocks ready for scrapping. These engine blocks came from Eliminators, GPZ, GPX, GTR and ZZR (ZX) and other Kawasaki models. Here at the Motorcycle scrapyards everything of these bikes will be available, except for engines, they all were seized beyond repaid and therefor scrapped. The saying about these Kawasaki engines is: there are 2 kinds of 4 cylinder inline water cooled Kawasaki engines: Those which are seized beyond repair and those which are about to seize beyond repair. I most certainly won't want to be on one when that happens...

      @joeyother9969 Před měsícem +1

      Over here, the zx10/11 1st gen motors had a pretty common failure pattern very similar to what you're describing.... ANY time I'm into one of those guys, the oiling system goes under some HARD scrutiny!!(At least mother Kaw made oil filter inspection easier by using a cartridge filter 🤷)

      @@joeyother9969 After being active in the motorcycle branch for over 30 years it is safe to say that in my experience Kawasaki engines of current models still seize for the very same reason as their predecessors did. See the Kawasaki company is huge, I mean they make aeroplanes, (bullit)trains and many many parts for the automotive branch, and yes they even have a tiny division of the Kawasaki company which actually manufacture motorcycles yes. This Kawasaki motorcycle division is so tiny that they even have no R&D department. The Formule 1 of Super-bikes basically is where all Research and Development is done and when proven to survive long haul races, these components find their way to the street versions of the Motorcycles and Engines. At Kawasaki one states: we design motorcycles to have a lot of power, and should be ridden like our F1 Super-bike Pilots do: so Kawasaki basically states that if you purchase a Kawasaki motorcycle you must treat this motorcycle will all most care possible; so you take the time, every time, to gently warm her up and wait with going like hell until the OIL temp is at least 90 degrees Celcius. So NOT the water temp. And you spend a lot of time cleaning her and maintaining her thoroughly, every few thousand Kilometers again and again and again. If you do not do so, Kawasaki will draw their hands of the bike and wish you luck for as long as it will last, because You most certainly will blow up the engine sooner or later. Want to compare a Kawasaki with something you know..? A Kawasaki motorcycle is to be compared with a Mogwhy... You take good care of her, she'll be fine, but if you don't then your Kawasaki motorcycle turns into a GREMLIN.
      And a lot of (the vast majority) of Kawasaki motorcycles turned, and still turn into GREMLINS. So want to play with your life on the fast lane? Get a Kawasaki
