Jamie Stewart is a very underrated bassist (& rhythm guitarist too!). Awesome that The Cult allowed him to play on the encore songs on the 'Love' album 25th Anniversary Tour! Great IT software programmer from what I hear. Hope he gets to ROCK the bass again on a few songs on the Sonic Temple 30th Anniversary Tour too! (IF & when they plan one-THEY SHOULD! )
I was a huge fan in the 80s but only got to see them once in that decade. Love tour at the Riviera in Chicago in spring of 1986 (and again in 2007 though without Jamie). We spent hours and hours in the general admission line at the Riviera we could be up against the stage for the show. Mindblowing - really! I remember Jamie whipping around that bass with a neck that seemed extra long. It was really psychedelic with a strobe light for The Phoenix. In this interview here he seems like such a polite and nice looking English gentleman. He could be cast as an earnest young pilot in The Battle of Britain movie.
First impression of Jamie Stewart: Intelligent. Plus I'm relieved he doesn't treat the interviewer with contempt or disrespect that MANY other musicians/artists did back then - wait for it though please - even though many interviewers deserved to be treated that way. We all know the music industry was the biggest gravy train on the tracks back then and still is unfortunately i.e. one only has to listen to Roger Waters from Pink Floyd lyrics to 'Have A Cigar' to understand the music biz; 'And did we tell you the name of the game, boy? We call it "Riding The Gravy Train". It means the music industry creates people who maggot money...people who make an art of being 'hangers-on'. Such people are essentially parasites. They somehow obtain $ by doing essentially nothing of importance or by being part of the 'team' who produce music. Anyway back to Jamie Stewart. Very down to earth. I would almost put a bet on that he remained like this for most of his career and in fact probably hasn't changed a bit. Unlike most of his peers.
He seems like the "quiet one" in the CULT. The John Deacon or Alan Wilder factor. At least he was on the classic albums. And no I'm not mocking the Cult's recent albums.
my class mate at Gayton high school harrow, music teacher Mrs SLATTER, SHE hated my disaffection piano playing and jamie guitar to ruff.... jamie went on to Ritual ..me Lemon city both harrow Middlesex bands Playing At the Roxbourgh pub harrow early 1982, lost touch with im yrs back, me ended up djing after parties for gary numan.....still song writing on syths

He'd also got married so I think he wanted to settle down too. Both Ian & Billy really missed him and it was great to see Jamie join The Cult on stage for a couple of songs on a recent UK tour.

Jamie does not seem like a usual rocknroll wild cat, the way he speaks is more like a teacher or a sciencist. Very intelligent and articulate.
