    Just got mine the other day as I wanted an HDR monitor that I could also use for work (basically a non-oled). I had low expectations for it given the price but it really blew me away when I started gaming in HDR. I can’t wait for the technology to mature even more. Only real draw back is the poor viewing angles.

      @MrGluGlu Před 4 měsíci +18

      @@ZeusFuentes they are a lot better than TN panels. I had to push mine back towards the wall a bit to avoid some gamma shift on the bottom of the screen. I am coming from an IPS and I have kind of got used to it, just have to make sure the monitor is facing you when you are using it. So overall I would say it’s pretty manageable, just annoying if you want to view off axis for whatever reason.

    Hi Tim!
    Really glad to see you covering miniLED monitors like this one. I like OLEDs as much as the next person, but I feel like the mixed use crowd (office/gaming) have been starved for a good monitor with true HDR.
    If you've seen the CES 2024 specs for the Acer Predator X34 V3 (34" UWQHD with 2034 dimming zones), I feel like that's one of the most affordable and reasonable entries in this rare jack of all trades species of monitors.
    With mixed use in mind, any thoughts on the miniLED monitor market? Should we get our hopes up and wait, or is this as good as it'll get for the time being?

I am super happy with it but I came from 75 hz ips basic work style monitor. I personally dislike ips glow and the limited contrast ratio on ips, that's what made me take a chance on this VA as well as the HDR10. For the money and at this time I think its a great value. When I found this monitor recently I was tempted to return the 32 inch ASRock I just bought - not a huge extra expense unlike an OLED, but the 27 inch format would seem to be a real difference. But considering in other terms for years and years I had a 30 inch 16:10 display as a main monitor so it would honestly not be a lot narrower, and this 32 inch (really 31.5) is only a bit taller.
    I still have a 27 inch display as a secondary screen and it honestly is a totally fine size in reality, in fact for some content and experiences I almost wonder if the larger display is too big- focusing on one area of the screen leaves a lot of content on the periphery, like with subtitled media and the text of JRPGs/VNs.

It obviously does not compete with OLED ( Tbh no mini LED I have tested does, even ones with 1100+ zones ), but it also costs a lot less. If you are in the market for a real HDR experience on a fair budget you will love this thing. I will say you may need to calibrate the display though, mine had a red tint to it and needed calibrating ( which by eye is borderline impossible but you can get it better than before ) All in all the monitor is impressive and keeps on impressing me daily ( I spend a lot of time chilling with him so I see the thing daily ) and the blacks are far better than anything on your standard IPS or VA, even when something bright is next to it. If you sit straight on as well the blooming is minimal enough that its not that distracting at all. HDR is great although I always miss OLED as you get perfect contrast and highlights are blistering, while here they are much dimmer to keep blooming minimal ( but dont get it twisted it still elevates the entire scene compared to SDR, and day time or any large bright area looks godly here )

    I have a year or so old AOC VA monitor (bought partly due to the promise of being a fast one for VA) and regarding overdrive and black smearing, there's an interesting thing to notice - it has a lot less black smearing and better general response times (meaning - it's not great, but OK for a VA panel with actual VA contrast, not reduced contrast like "fast" Samsung VA panels have) when the monitor is clamped to sRGB (be it via the rather bad in-built sRGB clamp or via something like novideo_sRGB) than it does in native gamut mode, and in HDR mode, it's even worse than in SDR wide gamut mode. Maybe something to look out for with monitors like this.
    Also, AOC seems to rarely release firmware updates anyway, at least for their cheaper stuff, so the absence of a USB port will likely not be a real issue in this regard.

    I have this monitor it is amazing. I go blind to CS2 flashbangs and actually have true colors and deep blacks again after ages on IPS monitors.
    It does bleed light some on a full black desktop but no ghosting/smearing that I can see.
    If you get it turn on windows HDR, set it to pictureHDR setting in the OSD and 100% contrast on your graphics card color and you are good to go.
    I have 2 videos of it on my YT.

      is it good to have for competitive cs2 playing? I'm trying to find a new replacement and an upgrade to 1440p, mostly will be used for cs competitively but also heavy on some single-player titles. It seems like it's in a great middle zone for best of both worlds, but can't decide since cs is a priority.

      @PhillipJermakian Před 4 měsíci

      @ugnemikelenaite7045 Ya hard to say there. It is beautiful but I don't know if I would suggest losing even a few ms in end to end latency for CS2 pros. I will say I am 90% playing CS2 right now and love it for that. Watch hardware unboxed's review and compare the response time to a 240hz review and see if you think it's worth it.

    Just bought. Was going to get a viewsonic, but spent the entire day browsing the 1440p hellscape of HDR10 and HDR400 monitors. Idk why manufacturers don’t make a true 1440p HDR monitor that doesn’t have a 240hz+ refresh rate. Some of us single player gamers would love an HDR monitor that has 120-144hz as the max but the HDR is actually good.

So much more contrast than IPS and it really makes a visual difference in games that I will take over better motion clarity any day. And honestly, the motion clarity is as good, if not better than my 2 year old fast IPS panel. So glad to finally have a good contrast FLAT monitor.

    My issue with VA and TN, is that if looked staright at the center of the monitor, then only center is not off axis, bottom is always a bit brighter/washed out, while top is darker.
    Ideally such monitors need a top to bottom curve to compensate for that, so the monitor becomes spherically curved, or viewed from a longer distance, which isn't great for desktop use.

    With 336 local dimming zones, I'm assuming that there's an array of 16*21 or 14*24. I don't know the technology in detail, but I expect that if an area was half bright and half dark, the dimming zone could be half illuminated?
    I just feel like one zone per every inch might look questionable if the zone is determined to be bright or dark, but it could be much better if a dimming zone could be controlled well.

    Here it is over 500 nits SDR brightness, they've measured less than 400.
    Here it is 75 rec 2020, they've measured less than 70.
    Here it is a relatively slow panel, they said it is one of the fastest VA panels on the market.
    It is almost if as they've tested a different product. I'm wondering what is happening here.
    Would be neat if you'd start to include panel ID from the engineering menu so we could be awared of regional differences or midlife updates.

      I’ve found that RTINGS is very biased in terms of reviews for monitors. It seems like whenever there is a monitor that people really like, they review it and say the opposite or say it’s just decent. They do it with TV’s and even complained about Sony Bravia TV’s which are known as some of the best on the market. The only thing I trust them with is color accuracy/calibration and viewing angles. Even with color accuracy they like panels that look too dull, especially for gaming. They focus so much on “realistic color accuracy” that when you calibrate your monitor you’re not using the full capabilities of it. I like my gaming monitors to pop with the colors and not be overly dim or bright. So it’s best to look at RTINGS first and then watch videos of people actually using the monitor. Then make judgement on what the majority opinion is

    It's not all roses though. VRR flicker is annoying, the menu system and buttons to navigate it are atrocious, firmware bugs and annoyances crop up in daily use and it also seems to clip very bright highlights in HDR just a bit no matter what settings you tweak.
