- This method makes pitching really simple, and it works!
Pitching can be difficult and with so much instruction out there it can be overwhelming, so in this video I keep it really simple and show you how just focusing on the weight in the club head can make this tricky shots suddenly seem super simple
#pitching #simplepitch #easypitch
00:00 intro
01:31 Swing the club head
04:51 Match the body
06:46 Release the head

Great lessons, l have a better understanding of how to approach those sometimes tricky shots. Many thanks.
The best coach on CZcams, informative whilst being easy to understand.
Thanks Chris really appreciate that
Totally agree, I watch a few different channels and Chris is definitely the one I think of as "my golf coach" in my head.
Lesson was very good but the intro was great! Love it when you imitate us with the bad shots and then go into the lesson on how to correct it. Thank you for the great editing and video.
This video is awesome. It's one of the best pitching videos I've seen, especially when it comes to finding a consistent lowpoint in the swing that bottoms out in the same place every time. (and shallow)
This has revolutionised my game and has ensured a recent 4 shot handicap reduction! I’ve applied the same technique to each lofted club for distance control. First class tuition Chris! 🥃
So many high handicap golfers would try to hit the ball directly at the pin, often ending a little short only to watch the ball roll agonisingly down into the water, so discussing where to aim and how to hit the shot to get it close to the pin is what we want to focus on, for a one (or certain 2) putt strategy. Professionals are confident that they will only take 2 putts when on the green, whereas amateurs fear 3 putts so feel they have to aim closer to the pin even though that’s higher risk. If you can talk about this aspect as well when facing this kind of situation would also be helpful. Thanks.
Great videos Chris. I like that you describe what to do and also show what NOT to do/common mistakes. Easy to follow.
Thanks Chris. Always appreciate your videos and enjoying the course on your website. The bio-mechanical explanations really clarify why so many of the old myths don’t work.
I have watched your previous videos on pitching and they were great, but this video is much better. Thank you very much.
Spion Mike I'm working my way through all of your videos Chris and (at 76) on 9 holes I;ve dropped 10 strokes already. Very grateful for such easy to follow lessons. Thank you.
Very very helpful!
Well explained it may sort out my game
Another great lesson, thank you Chris.
My pleasure, thanks for watching 👍
Thnx again!
Thank you
Amazing intro! Well edited!
Amazing instruction, thank you
Thanks Peter appreciate that
I'm pretty new to golf and I love your videos they have been a great help! I am wondering though what or how the release works after impact? I feel I'm trying to much or to hard!
Quality editing at the start there, more stuff like this to take it to the next level 👍
😂😂I’m pretty good at hitting all the bad shots 😳
Thanks Chris!
Thanks Calvin
much needed info and a great demo
Thanks Chris
Great vid, thanks. How about chipping and pitching from tight lies? I'm a member at Saunton and the fairways are really tight!
Anyone notice the dudes cart pushing itself in the background at 7:10
Greetings from The Netherlands. Very informative and thank you Chris
Good, simple east steps.
Thanks
Thank you, always struggle with driving my hands and the handle instead of swinging and feeling the head. Great lesson
Lots do, glad the video has helped though
Brilliant Chris, a couple of years previous you suggested a couple of places where I could source a ‘club weight’ to help with another type of shot, and I have just found it again in the garage, so when next practicing I’ll be doing as instructed, such an easy video to watch and equally learn from, many thanks Darran
Brilliant, all of those training aids can come in handy, definitely try this as should give some really good feels
nice to see the same approach taught in a slightly different way.
Another great video Chris. When I have this shot my preference is to pull a 7 or 8 iron and hit a low runner as I am better able to control the run-out, and where the ball ends up. When I hit a 54 or 60 degree wedge I usually have no problem hitting the green and am mostly able to hit close to the landing spot I picked out. The issue is what happens after the ball lands. Will it spin and stop dead (when I’m looking for a bit of run out) or will it not spin at all and roll way past the hole. Do you have any videos on controlling the spin and distance control on these shots ? Thanks
Thank you Chris I’m 10 years old and I golf and these videos really help my short game
Love it, thanks for watching
I like to remind myself with these shots is that the grip is an open tube of toothpaste and try not to squeeze any out. Sounds silly but takes the strong grip out of it
Great tip - Also I’m now keeping an eye out for the next training aid gimmick that actually has a tube of toothpaste instead of a grip….
@@andyburt3101 it will be a Titleist tube of viscous fluid that resembles toothpaste you can attach to your grip.
you can get that exact warm up device on amazon. Just bought one myself.
Pure genius have been trying this with a 60deg on the range today and it brilliant. Not as tricky as I thought really releasing the club as you swing through. Tried it with straight face and even slightly open 👍👍👍
Just need the confidence to go at it on the course.
Great to hear, amazing how easy the shots can feel when we just let the club head swing
@@ChrisRyanGolf wonderful lesson brother.
Thanks for the video Chris. My trouble is that even when I get the technique, my head doesn’t allow me to use it as I have struggled for so long and my confidence is rock bottom. Any tips on how I can stop my head from taking over the shot please? I have even considered hypnosis as my practice swings are fine but as soon as I play the shot I dip or lift or scoop. I’ve even tried closing my eyes which does seem to work better but it’s not ideal. Thanks.
I'm strictly here for the high soft landing 30 yard no roll pitch. Massive drive lead to a tough shot uphill over a bunker. I never felt comfortable with shot
Great video Chris.. Do you have any tips for people who Shank their wedge shots?? I have a real problem with it and have tried many ways to cure it, but it just destroys me when practising.. Cheers Chris.
For me the release is key. If I stay down, I'm headed to shank city.
Great intro. Well done, Chris!
Thanks David
Does your pitching technique leverage the hand path and forces you describe as part of the speed boat drill?
Hey Chris agreed, pitching should be about finesse. Like the tip about letting the club face swing around, make me ask should I use that swing feel with all my clubs obviously with speed and weight transfer
Hey Michael, the movement is a little different once we try to add speed so this may not work quite as well with your full swing, so if keep this to the pitching if possible
I've been following your channel for more than 5 years. Thank you for all these simply amazing videos, Chris. Keep going. Greetings from Spain.
Thanks so much for watching and glad you enjoy the videos
Great information. Question, I skull the ball on my misses. Is it caused my club head getting in front of my hands? How do I stop?
Chris, would you ever use your sand wedge to pitch to the green? (i only carry a PW & SW in my bag). T.Y. for all your instruction Chris.
Yea absolutely, I would change up the club based on the situation I am faced with
I think you have been watching me chip Chris :). It is the worst part of my game. Thank you so much for these tips.
Thanks Jake and yep I have been hiding in the trees watching 🤣
@@ChrisRyanGolf LOL !
I wish you travelled to Edinburgh, I’d sign up for 2/3 lessons.
How about those less than perfect lies - very tight or even playing off a hard muddy patch?
Really useful Chris. Does the rotation and extension through the ball apply to any shot as a general principle?
It does yes David, helps with most shots you will hit
@@ChrisRyanGolf thanks very much Chris
Great video, maybe with some practice, I can put my 8 iron away.
You had your feet close and the ball in the middle. Is that the proper way to hit a pitch show, not ball forward or back and feet shoulder width apart? Or is there a distance where one should start thinking about taking a normal short iron setup/swing?
Hey Brian, this is how I would set up for a basic pitch of around 30yds, if the shot changed then my set up would change a little too, longer shot = wider stance.
Your Igotcha device is available at Amazon UK
Thanks Colin, hadn’t seen any for years, maybe they are making a comeback!
My problem is I shank these can u give some suggestions for why that might be happening?
Chris can you tell us where the club should hit the ground on these pitch shots? Hit the ball first then the ground or ground first and slide the club under the ball?
Hey Jim, club should hit the ground pretty much at the same time as the ball, so ball and ground together. When I put h I generally just try to land the club on the ground that is directly under the ball
Great question and answer. I have wondered about this
This is getting out of hand! Now there are two of them!
😂😂my wife’s worst nightmare!
Is this the Richmond Hill Golfcenter ;)
It isn’t no, Forest of Arden golf course
Hey Chris like always thank you for the content! I had a question about the a section in this video from the 6:10 to 6:20 portion of this video, I noticed that you slightly flare your left foot when you start the downswing. Is that on purpose? If so how is it helping you? I started doing this recently and it is helping with weight transfer, quality of contact, distances. Appreciate your response
It’s actually just something that I found myself doing naturally, only noticed once I filmed it, think it’s just helps me turn though a little better
Nice intro, I'm crying 🤣
🤣🤣thought I’d try to make them a little more interesting
@@ChrisRyanGolf excellent job and video as usual. Regards from Chile
6:50*
Those are great! Battery operated and equipped with GPS. Look out for steep slopes, though! 😅
What club were you hitting for that one?
I think this was a 56 on this shot
@@ChrisRyanGolf Thanks!
Thought it was me and my golf when the video started 😂
🤣🤣
SpionMike
God video, shame about the bombers in the background!
😂😂😂I think they all made eagle on that hole
not staying committed to the shot....results will not be pretty....know that first hand. I've seen that guy on the left before....
I’ve been the guy on the left many times Butch
