Haha the intro was amazing😂
All to get you in the mood for the sponsor of the video lol
I wanted to make it rain!!
Yeah man faf
Make it rain!!!!
Can we just point out how badass the space marine looks. Man's got two chainswords
the first blade lifts, the second blade cuts
I got this exact same used mini from a friend (down to the bionic arm) and he made the same mistake. Is there a secret two chainswords chapter I don't know about?
Cross draw would let him dual wield chainswords. The most badass thing I've never seen on a model.
@@romeo.3472 yeah your right its on the correct side to be drawn to his other hand. didnt spot that
OMG I was thinking the same thing. BECAUSE ONE WAS NOT ENOUGH. RAWR. 😅
5:00 "Don't strip them, consider if it's worth it, maybe just throw them away"
GOOD LORD IT'S EBAY MINIATURE RESCUES WITH A STEEL CHAIR!
This was by far the best Segway to announce a sponsor in the whole of mini painting CZcams. Well done, sir :D
Been restoring my old 3rd ed necron army my mom helped me buy back when i was 11-14, most of which is in a horrible condition. Its been very entertaining to see how much 16 years of experience is actually worth, and giving these miniatures the treatment they deserve and leaving them looking beautiful enough to have the kid inside me jump with glee.
I did this for a friends army. He had one buddy that painted things cheap and fast, then he'd pay me to make them look way better. It's actually really fun to get to the details and those final touches when all of the base coats are already taken care of.
one suggestion: if the minis have been played with a bunch consider washing them gently in warm soapy water, finger oil can make it hard for paint to stick
I don't think I can un-see Ninjon in his alternate identity dancing like that.
I'm definitely going to have to ask for a repeat performance the next time I run into him at Adepticon.
It's actually his primary identity. The "professional" public face is his alternate identity.
Why would you want to unsee it
@NewSquallor exactly what I was saying
The reason I strip is not because of 'color matching', it's because the 2nd hand models are often not cleaned of mold-lines, so I end up scraping away a lot of paint and primer. Also because the original paint can be so thick, that adding more is just going to kill details.
That and I generally want my own paint scheme.
Thick paint is my reason. I just got some old metal models on eBay and couldn’t actually see the skunk’s face for the chunks of paint
I painted my HeroQuest minis with thick enamel paint when I was a kid. No amount of new paint could fix that shit.
I'm with you there! I strip every secondhand miniature I get unless it's of the same quality as my work. Over 90% of my miniatures are metal as well, so there's that issue. Metal is usually far easier to strip than plastic, especially if they're painted with enamel or lacquer.
THAT INTRO!!!! Thats why I keep coming back. Knowledgeable and funny as shit. A small ultrasonic cleaner with some simple green 50/50 with water eats paint off in 20 minutes.
Its not necessarily cause of color match, I dont have a set army and dont play. So i get an idea and a wild hair in my crack and go to town
I can really appreciate that jon got a matching tattoo because he liked Darrell’s so much.
I was worried Darryl was gonna drink the Simple Green. It would've made so much sense. Also, missed opportunity for him to pop in after the sponser clip to mention how some of the "items" one can buy from Adam & Eve double up as a go-to paint shaker with a little duct tape.
i dont know that i will ever repaint my first few models, its always fun to look back at them and see how much ive improved
I painted my first models in the early 80s when I was barely a teen (and in enamels). I still have them. For nostalgia I kept them as is and bought the set again on eBay to put side by side for a then and now display
First time someone has a sponsor and a deal worth checking out! And great job on the minis too!
The biggest dealbreaker to me when it comes to stripping vs fixing old models is weird textures. Like if there's a bunch of metallic flecks where they shouldn't be and the wash dried with a three dimensional line that some layering ain't gonna fix, that's when I go for the IPA.
14:00 very good point. I've painted printed resin minis without primer for a whole while when I first started out. D&D minis too, so they do see some play. Never had anything rub off, never had issues with paint not sticking to the model, nothing. I do finish them with a varnish usually, because I feel it makes sense, but if I do use primer these days it's more to give me a good base color to start from, not anything else. I feel priming is a bit of a relic from the days of metal minis that too many in the hobby simply take as gospel without questioning.
I gave this a like as soon as Daryl started dancing to the music at the beginning, absolutely love it, brilliant stuff!
I literally just did this with a Terminator Chaplain I finished before my hiatus some 10 years ago. selectively stripped and repainted it up to my current skills/standards, super gratifying to see the progress I've made.
I seriously thought the whole "Adam and Eve" sponsorship was just a bit till I checked the description 😭
Yeah, it’s a really bad look. I understand that sponsors pay the bills, but there’s kids watching man
@@alexfrantz8389it’s a Warhammer painting video. I assure you there aren’t.

I'm a barber and I thought I was the only person ever to use a barbicide container to strip my minis. I have an excuse. You? You're just a weirdo. It's great.
Real
This reminds me of a friend who said whenever he needs a pallette cleanser, or is in a painting funk, or just needs a quick ego boost, he goes and buys prepaints like wizkids or whathave you, and just "improves" them. Ive been tempted to try it, but now I am feeling even more tempted
I fucking love that you got an Adam and Eve sponsorship. Rock on man.
I actually got back into painting last week because of you after years off and man have I lost a lot of skill. Thank you for this I forgot how relaxing it is
Painting the tilt shield on his chest would have been the cherry on top.
Every time I watch your videos, I am AMAZED by your style ❤
Your minis look absolutely stunning, and thank you for sharing with us all!
I was going to point out that you should paint the coils on the plasma pistol, but then they magically got painted in between cuts! Amazing. I would have gone with blue though.
This sponsor add needs to be talked about on the next TUP!
Omg the barber container thing is genius
This was inspiring. And the script and skits are as always some of the best around.
This is great! The minis I painted a few years ago are not up to the more recent standard. This is inspiring to fix them up
Interesting approach. Amazing results.
That dance at the beginning was 🔥🔥🔥
Daryl’s contribution also really dovetails with the sponsor. 😂
I look forward to seeing Darryl and his antics!
I just needed to comment to acknowledge that the connection between your music, sponsor choice and theme for this video are genius-level. You're a clever dude - thanks for this great video!
I don't think I'll ever get tired of Darryl intros 😂😂😂😂😂
This was a fun video. I'd love to see more of these type repair videos.
Good point on doing repairs and not full repaints. Thanks.
Love it, such a great fix up! I have a second hand Hellbrute which I've been dreading fixing up, but this video has given me loads more confidence to crack on with it - thank you!
Definitely what I needed to get my day started
Always love a good Darryl intro lol Great video love it as usual sir! I think we all have those 'first' model that are rough to look at as we get better and taking a fresh look at them can be a fun way to show your progress over time.
Instant like for the intro. One of the best so far (if not the best).
That was useful video. I'll rewatch to practice those Darren moves. Super slick tie in with sponsor too. Oh, the Marine, terrific tips.
Brilliant! Thank you.
I have a project of rescue models like this. Very good tips! This video will def help speed the process up !
intro goes hard, rewatched it 6 times already
Thank you for this. Inspired me to crack out my OG Eldar army from 30 years ago and give it a revamp!
My first dive into miniature painting was a few years ago and are in the display case, I use them as examples of how far I've come in the hobby and next to my last one they show how my skillset has improved along with my paint, tools, brushes collection has grown. My moto is your last miniature was just practice for your next one.
we had a guy at our gaming club that painted the same 3 units over and over. when he got to the 3rd unit his skills had improved so he started over on the first unit to bring it up to par.
I dont get to repaint models as long as there are unpainted models.
I followed this procedure to clean up a Grey Knights army, and it was so much quicker than trying to strip and start over. I'm glad to see others doing the same.
Love the dual chainswords..hell yeah
I love the opening plus the Adam and Eve ad, epic
Thank you for this video! I really love your can-do attitude; your videos always motivate me to sit back down when I've gotten discouraged or frustrated that my models aren't coming out perfect the first time through. You mentioned that your friend had left some spots blank that he couldn't reach with the brush; I'm currently painting a Tau Ghostkeel and running into the same problem. Any tips for hard to reach areas when you didn't realize sub-assemblies were a thing? 😂
Can we just talk about the double chainswords.
Rather than a back up pistol, this marine has a backup sword
The pistol is obviously just there to allow him to close the distance so he can really get to work.
Been doing this for a while. Love bringing new life to old models.
Love me a good refurb! I find a subtle wash and base dressing is usually all that's needed to fit second hand models into my existing forces.
40seconds in, probably the best intro to a video ever!
Did not expect THAT sponsor for a mini painting channel.
Very nice. That was pretty cool.
Your videos always get me excited to paint something! Cheers!
The bulk of my models are eBay, and nearly all I strip since I buy for the models, not the prior paint jobs. Stripping and starting over is a fun part of mini painting on a budget for me.
Another wholesome video, I cannot get enough. Mooooore
Intro Reminds me of when my mom checked my search history when I was as 14 and found "stripping models"
Glad to see I'm not the only one to go with the dual chainsword option. Made more sense than the dual helmet option. Two swords is cool. Two helmets - that just means you are planning to succumb to chaos and it's going to give you one hell of a splitting headache.
Too situational; the fig used was pretty salvageable, but others are just going to take too long to justify keeping the original paint on and fixing. But apparently, according to his rank of options, we should toss those, and ones caked in paint, in the trash rather than strip. Great advice there.
Haven’t watched this yet but the old trolls from the 90’s are amazing miniatures. Some of the best trolls ever.
The dancing and "stripping" are worth the thumbs up alone! Great video!
This has given me the inspiration to try and clean up the first miniature i ever painted, Eisenhorn. Made the mistake of thinking it would be good to learn on a character 😂
The opening skit segues surprisingly well into the ad read.
I am diggin" the dual wielding of chain swords! That is leet fo sho.
Truly wasn't prepared for that ad, hoo boy. It just felt so hilariously out of nowhere lol. Also digging the double chainsword on that guy, dude looks like he fucks shit up
Dude that Intro flippin cracked me :,D Grandioso
This was great
I would have love to see you paint/restore thise Deathwings terminators! Great video!
Cool video, That's what I needed to hear
Takes time to remove all the mold lines to clean up the model. Ignores the massive mold line on the helmet and paints it anyway. Legend. :P
Great vibes
I've bought many old models off people, ebay etc. In most cases I've had to strip them due to excess paint. However, sometimes it's only a targeted strip, such as helmet or shoulder pads
Loved the intro 😂
That's probably the strangest paid sponsorship I've seen. Love the constant theming though. I was listening to the music thinking "If my wife comes in now she'll think I'm watching something raunchy"... and then boom! adult toy sponsorship!!
Have you talked about making a textured pallet? Love your videos sir. Thank you
Saw the intro dance in my feed and now you have a new sub lol 😂
High contrast volumetric lighting to key points would have made this model really pop
Some minis are cursed. They must be stripped in order to cast out the evil
Best intro yet!
that opening was so good, i had to watch it twice. 😂
Its all about that base!!
Wake up babe another Ninjon video dropped
Best intro ever Ninjon!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
This seems like finding someone else's minis in ideal circumstances. I've seen minis that look like they were dipped in superglue and then dipped in paint. There's really no option but to strip everything off and break them down to their individual components and start over
Something i do is spot strip with a brush and iso. If a spot has too much paint you can remove it using your brush and a drop of iso. Saves you stripping the entire model.
I'm 100% into just saving existing paint jobs rather than re-painting, especially when its base units. sometimes i'd do it with characters too. saves me more time to Play and concentrate on decent paint jobs on new models especially Special characters.
also, I have a Rhino that's been passed around in my friend circle for the last 30yrs, It started in Howling Griffon Chapter, then was passed on into the Imperial Guard, I got it and converted to Orks, then it was unconverted and joined the Blood angels, then Ultramarines, I then got it back and turned it to Darkangels, it then went back to the Blood Angels player. finally, it returned to me and has remained a Blood Angels tank but is now painted as a victim of Melta gun damage.
Ive always just primed over the original paint job, Ive never considered trying to make the original paint better. Great Video and sponsor haha!
Dominate the Paint!
Seriously, every video the presentation and delivery are top notch, along with thoughtful subject matter. Bravo.
Plus who doesn't like 80s adult film theme tune to a bit of painting.
Oh sweet baby god emperor, you missed the mold line on the helmet! The pain. The horror.
This is handy. I kind of inherited a painted Blood Angels army that is painted... fine... but I would like for it to look better. I was leaning towards just painting over everything but if I can use the current state and highlight up, it will get me where I want to go. The model here looks great, but why does he have two chainswords? Also...Was not expecting that sponsor, but you get those dollars- no shame!
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
thats why thin layers are important :D
I feel this video was made exactly for me
