The Boys Season 4 Half Way Review With

- To effectively satirize something you have to KNOW that thing! and the writers of the boys certainly knows the left! and so can very effectively satirize it in the form of Vaught but when it comes to Homelander and Firecracker and the right wing in general the satire falls quite flat... So it's a joy to see the show return to supes and Homelanders past instead of trying to understand a political position they have such clear distaste for

If they want people to hate homelander they should base it on themselves.
They lack the self awareness.
Homedestroyer
Right? I hate Anthony Starr in real life. He’s pretentious, self absorbed, and extremely left wing. If he just played himself they’d get me to hate homelander
Ironically, they do a better job making Homelander hateable if they just turn him into a cuck.
we've replaced the cat girl with a fish girl.
Cat"boy"*
Wasnt it #breedKips?
kibs just transitioned into his... her new persona xD
Cat-Trap.
Is that what they call '' catfishing '' ?
How to make homeland hateable.
Have him do nothing.
World on fire.
Not homelanders problem.
President daughter kidnap.
Not homelanders problem.
A god that does nothing is boring.
And people hate boring.
So, make Homelander a leftist activist
@@streptococo4735yep, just have Anthony Starr play himself on screen. Then everyone will hate homelander.
They gotta make him bad tho... doing nothing would be the way but they can't write that.
Starlight being an active abortionist solidified her as a villain, that was a great plot point
Honestly the Boys have been the villains since day one. So are the Seven but the Boys are worse imo
...Crashing a plane into the Golden Gate Bridge is kinda hard to top ito evil acts
@@mullerpotgieter
Didn't happen in the show but the seven did orchestrate superpowered terrorist and crash an airliner into the ocean
I ain't going to lie, a lot of these comments make me feel like a lot of these people don't watch the show in the first place.
@@saltysocks1074 I was really wondering what happened with the bridge, I didn’t recall anything like that in the show
@@PrimeAdvance ok, the boys absolutely suck, but the tally on how many innocents they killed is still lower than the seven’s, not to mention rapes, robberies, and general disregard for human life. I am just glad they dropped the pretense on starlight’s sainthood.
There's a reason all writer's attempts to make Homelander hateable have all backfired.
The audience doesn't hate a character for being an asshole or even being a monster. If anything, the audience hates it when a character is useless, dull, or annoying.
doesnt help when they already made his backstory sympathetic
Watched the first episode of season 4 and said I have seen enough, it is way too politically biased and they really do demonize just one side.
This season they literally hired a redditor as the writer.
It’s hilarious too, Eric Kripke is a hack. He has 3 beyond loved actors in his back pocket and doesn’t use them because he needs to promote feminism and liberal ideology 😂
The same show runner created Dean Winchester btw. One of the best masculine male role models in modern television.
Honestly wonder how much of Dean was made by Jensen at this point. Even his depiction of solider boy was better than most other characters in the show. Certainly more consistent in his motivations and character.
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 That was in 2005, before the woke BS started.
@@DarthFett-bf7ed this...a MASSIVE amount of peoples' brain broke around 2015/2016. Like seriously: schizoid embolisms all over the place.
The farther it strays from the source material, the worse it will get. This show simply has no idea of where to go, feels like the writer wants to tell you his political views, not an engaging story.
EDIT: Since everyone here is missing my point.
The more that the writer has to create original stuff for the show, the less cohesive the show will get. Say what you will about the original work's quality, it had an ending in mind. This show doesn't, it will just keep going until the audience gets bored of it (which is happening right now), then amazon will pull the plug.
I'll say again, the quality of the original work DOESN'T matter, that's not what I'm judging here. I'm talking about how the show will get weaker as it gets further from its reference point, specially since its story literally has no end goal in mind.
And also to tell us his fetishes
It's been straying from the source material since season 1 episode 1.
Tbf, that WAS basically the og comics.
seth rogens produce now...
The show in it's two first seasons was already much better than the comic.
The writers are incapable of understanding normal people
seth rogen ...
Like all zealots and lunatics.
Theyre writing for their team and themselves, literally just trying to preach to their own choir... these shows have to be tax write offs because theres no logical justification for killing the profitability of a product with insanely high production costs.
The second Homelander said that he is smart enough to actually listen to Sister Sage's advice, I was like: "Ok, I want him to win now..." XD
Arch is starting a vtuber harem
As is natural
Better than a Skaven harem at least.
chicks get ez views. arch knows this
As the nature itself required.
His Viking DNA is taking over
The makers keep making homelander sympathetic while refusing to let him be truly evil.
Worse still, NO ONE tries to bargain with him in good faith, the “best” homelander gets is “sit in your room and wait for us to figure out how to kill you”.
Didn't he bust a deaf kid ears open just to prove a point, have Innocent men and fans killed for further his political goals, manufactured the superpower t*rror#st crisis, graped a chick, and covered up letting a whole plane full of men, women, and children meet father gravity to protect his image?
Wtf are you talking about?
honestly showing kindness and making a deal with him, would probablyy work. He isnt actively trying to kill the boys based on their agreement. Nobody tried really talking to him, they just tried to use him or kill him. His upbringing would make anyone genocidal, they are lucky he wasnt.
Hasn't the dude killed enough people to fill up a football stadium?
At least just between causing the airliner crash and orchestrating V getting into the hands of radicals, that number got to be pushing hundreds.
I don't know, guys, I think you're running into the issue that you can't chew bubble gum and walk at the same time. You can't acknowledge somebody has a tragic backstory while also recognizing that the person they are now is terrible! terrible
They ruin a lot by making it up and blending it with modern day politics, literally. Homelander is an amazing villain and all they can do is point and screech 'RIGHT! REPUBLICAN!'
I really don't think modern politics should be defined as the top down agenda these useful idiots keep pushing
but yah
they make fun of people for believing conspiracies exist even though its not crazy to be mistrusting in a world like that. was especially ballsy to make fun of the q crowd for saying that hollywood is full of those types of people, then parading a bunch of men in front of a girl's party
What makes him republican?
They will obviously copy the Ozymandias storyline for sister sage, because they are stupid.
It's funnier that way, because in Alan Moore eyes Ozy is the conflicted good guy. For some "folks" in Hollywood gene-o-side is something that just happens and it's good.
@@dantehunter5494When you realize Alan intended Ozy to be objectively right since he was trying to stop a war against the Soviet Union because in the 80s people used to think Russia had the same power as USA.
Only for Reagan to completely destroy Russia, making Ozymandias look like a complete lunatic and Rorschach to be justified.
@@streptococo4735 Yeah, History ended up vindicating both Reagan and Rorschach by revealing just how broken the USSR actually was. Moore and everyone like him in the 70's and 80's were in fact fearmongering over an enemy who was significantly weaker then we thought.

"S1 S2 very good"
Our standards have fallen so far...
I never watched the show how bad are they?
@@user-cs4su3ng9lFirst was great and the second was when it started going off the rails in the first few episodes since the characters started spinning their wheels and ignoring their character development.
About homelander being unpredictable , when he just destroyed that blind guys eardrums was just a wtf moment lol
Was it tho?
What? Its a joke about the blind super hero trope... youd expect the guy to pull a daredevil and dodge it, but they subvert your expectations with the "realistic" outcome... not being able to see is a debilitating disability. It wasnt unpredictable at all, as long as you know that hollywood writers are constantly trying to subvert expectations at every turn its super easy to pick up on it.
Oh, theyre building up to go right? Then obviously theyre going to go left...
The one thing I personally don't care for about Homelander is the actor is a wokie. Not a fan.
Another thing I'm not a fan of is the CONSTANT sexual scenes. THAT gets very annoying, very quickly. Plus, added onto the fact of the CREATOR of the show saying "If you don't like my politics, go watch something else"... yeah, Idk if I'm able to keep up with the show.
I turned off episode 1. It was always leftist but it was still reasonably made and compelling. They got a new writer for season 4 and I bet 200$ he’s uses reddit daily. Names David Reed. Look at the guy. That’s who they put in charge of writing the boys 😂
I don't care what anyone says. The original comic is the best version of The Boys. The Amazon version is terrible and always has been since season 1. They made Hughie a boring American character instead of a Scotsman who is into the paranormal, supernatural, and conspiracies. They race and gender-swapped a bunch of characters for no reason other than to just do it. Also, Seth Rogen's company is working on it so that's another red flag. I've noticed the people who don't like the comic are the ones who have only watched the terrible Amazon version. The Amazon version will always be inferior to the comic book version.
As a comic reader it's terrible. Characters except the boys aren't characters they are pure caricatures, comically evil - and that part with the high school? 20 issues of Butcher and co. fighting teenagers? Boring.
@@Klongu_Da_Bongu I find this argument amusing. People are usually okay with two-dimensional and often comically evil characters in books and comics, but in The Boys its suddenly a major problem.
Whole point of the The Boys is that the V does terrible things to humans, twists their psyche to the point where they can be barely considered humans anymore, a reflection on what an actual human might act like if they got some extraordinary powers or were exposed to gene-altering chems since birth.
@@liquidgoose1518 no, no one likes that. You are projecting.
@@vyor8837 sure buddy
The comics are garbage, the show sucks but it is still much better than the fuckin comic. That shit was poorly written edgelord hateboner schlock and the big twist actively works against the main thesis of the comic and takes all the tension out of the story, it made the ending completely unsatisfying and honestly, made the entire plot pointless.
Homelander🤝Solider Boy
"Victims of the John Walker Effect"
Personally, I've never understood the appeal of The Boys. To me, the comics and the show just come across as Pizza Cutter levels of Edge. Also, I feel like the whole, "Superman, but EVIL," has worn out it's welcome at this point.
It was an interesting idea, till they decided superman himself had to follow the trend. To me, superman has always been about making the conscious decision to not abuse power or seperate himself from the average person despite being so far above them. He has moments where he questions and trips but he always resets and keeps going, even when he needs help doing it.
On one hand they want you to hate Homelander, on the other hand they were so desperate to inject their bs about "tohusic maschukiniteh" back in season 3 that they kept trying to make Homelander appear more sympathetic than his father, and that's only because his father had some masculinity in him in their eyes makes him worse than the literal murder psycho Homelander is.
They failed to make his father appear as the icon of sin, pardon, tohusic maschuliniteh, they failed to make Homelander look coherently evil, since in their attempts of trying to make him appear better than his father they made him more relatable,
And ofc the whole interaction with Stormfront reeks of the same, they try to make her a poor victim of evil masculinity, while also evil , but also victim because she's a woman, but she's evil.
In short cognitive dissonance galore
If you think Homelander isn't evil... then I dread knowing what the heck *is* evil in your eyes 👀...

Yes, he is incoherently evil, his motives are all over the place, his "evi' is based on 4 contradicting aspects, and they try to make him into a "DRUMPF BAD YA'ALL" which is fucking up with the original internal consistency of his character, then they added the "and he toxic masculinity too the scum!!!" which distorted his character even more, he had his own core reasons for why he is the way he is, they refused to stick to them to keep pushing a political narrative and an ideological narrative from our world

I saw the propaganda from Season 1. I watch it because it exposes just how insane these people are.
I like the Sister Sage character but I'm not sure about her "superpower." She seems to have demonstrated a stronger superpower of perception rather than intelligence.. I'd call it wisdom more than smarts...but I'm sure the writers don't know the difference between the two.
...and then she completely lost me at the lobotomy scene and I realized I was momentarily distracted from this complete trashbag of entertainment and that the series should've concluded in a much better written Season 3.
What was wrong with the lobotomy scene
She’s got Robert Downeys Sherlock superpower.
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 Which is pretty much the same thing Tek Knight has. But the latter is a white male and was only in the awful spin-off V-teens show.
Although they dropped his name on a commercial last episode, Ive no idea why they didnt bring him in. Probably to keep him in the spin-off.
So making a character more intresting and entertaining makes him more popular?
Dont they know that people love Vader, Palpatine, Sauron, Saruman etc etc even though they're awful beings?
No one loved Sauron until Rings of Power. Since Sauron wasn’t really a character, he was more a force of nature. A force raging against the characters we truly loved.

I honestly am positive that Sister sage will become the “hero” of the story, kill of homelander with help from the boys and become the public hero while the boys continue their job, or die.
Pocs arent allowed to be objectively evil, they will have their redemption. Itll be contrived, for sure. I think its better to imagine that soldier boy just went nuclear in the tower at the end of season 3 and killed everyone, ending the show.
A black woman defeating the evil cos toxic white male, NO ONE could have seen it coming, what s plot twist!!
astonished that one would think season 2 was anything but meh.
I'm surprised people think any of the seasons are good. I guess it's easy to think season 1 is good if you've never read the comic.
I found season 2 a real struggle, was surprised it was so positively reviewed when it had so many glaring problems. I thought season 3 was an improvement in some areas but still bad regardless of if you've read the comics or not.
Happy to look at the Boys as season 1 and done, we're all very accustomed to every IP being run into the ground when it's left with people who are either lacking talent, have political agendas they want to drive home or both.
Honestly I felt that season one only had good scenes not good writing overall. The boys had issues with inconsistent writing from the outset. It's just that this issue only compounded more with time. As the writers inability to accurately track cause and effect or think logically becomes more apparent when we keep seeing characters act like idiots. As even average everyday people can make better plans or think of better things to say.
@@NewCanadaI read the comics and still like season 1, but after that it’s just on a downhill slope

Not even worth a cringe watch, didn't get to the end of the first episode......
11:32 thats like a character in The Second Apocalypse novel series im reading. There is a race of people who were bred for over 2000 years to be hyper intelligent. This character is so above everyone in mental capabilities that he can read their thoughts and motives just by seeing subtle facial cues and inferring things and then manipulating them. He sees those around him as children stumbling from one instant to another with no true understanding.
It’s just Bene Gesserit
Ol Frank Herbbie fully loaded was a true inspiration for many.
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 That's another great example, and it did cross my mind at one point while reading this series. The different abilities that have been bred into those like the Bene Gesserit or Mentats is reminiscent of the Dunyain from the series. Herbert influenced a lot of great authors after him, I see his influence all the time. I just finished the Malazan Book of the Fallen series recently and it was totally influenced by Dune and Black Company by Glen Cook.
The show was never subtle with its left wing satire and that’s not even necessarily a bad thing. The Sopranos was pretty progressive with its messaging too. The difference is that the writing in the Boys comes across as clichéd and preachy.
The mockery of Vought is just "isn't this progressive company that does all the platitudes stupid because they don't put their money, resources and influence where their mouth is?" it's not satire it's snide remarks.
The main difference is that David Chase wrote a good story and great characters first and the commentary (Which was actually pretty balanced) was an icing on top. Progressives think that their message is the cake and the story and characters aren't even icing, they're edible glitter.
@@John-kc4cgexactly
@@Saint_Wolf_ Yeah, their philosophy is "The left is occupied". They still think they're the good guys, or that puppets wills matter.
Its not left wing satire, its just mocking Amazon (who actually produces this show), Disney and other megacorporations for falling in line with the 'message'.
They dont actually portray leftwingers as wrong at any point. Starlighters are just stand-in for far left activists and are constantly the poor, innocent, moral victims now. Whilst the Homelander side are raging racists, conspiracy theorists and overall violent white trash. In other words, how the far left sees the US south.
Unsurprisingly, the comics were amazing and the show is crap.
Yeah, I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would choose the terrible Amazon version over the superior comic.
It’s a pretty common take that the comics were bad and the show improved things. Don’t agree with it, because it’s always people that should just read a story with different themes instead of the comic itself being bad. But, as said, it’s a common take.
I've actually met garth and Derrick. Neither of them seem thrilled. Outside of the cash.

I like The Boys when they don't focus on Frenchy.
I don't like Starlight or the kid.
The sheer INCOMPETENCE of "current year" writers in creating "sympathetic villains," is due to their inability to understand the POINT of such a villain. A sympathetic villain is supposed to haunt us, make us realize we're just "one bad day" from becoming a villain ourselves, and force us to reevaluate our lives.
What do "current year" writers do instead? They SIMP for the "sympathetic villain," and try to "redeem" him, WITHOUT making the villain FEEL GUILT for his crimes, try to save lives or otherwise make up for the death and destruction he caused, or ANYTHING to EARN that "redemption."
Meanwhile, the heroes are turned into "bad guys" for remaining suspicious of the "sympathetic villain," the way a HUMAN BEING would. Do the writers not understand how HUMAN BEINGS think and feel?!

for me homelander felt lke the first step to become big E of 40k ( we could see him rewrite his story ,plus the arc with his son could be a new race and the supps could be the unrelable thunder warrior...
I could see the show going to shit, so I quit after the whole reunion with Butcher's wife and that arc completed. Homelander was a motivator. You got to see examples of his cruelty and his level of patience with people and annoyances - none. And he's well-acted. When he walked into a room, he got the peons scrambling, and he got the anti-supe group scrambling. That made him effective. If they didn't think people hated Homelander *enough*, then these writers have no concept of a villain that you love to hate.

Do they, in-universe, address the Starlight actress's very obvious plastic surgery? Because she looked way better before.
I mean I do hate Homelander. He is a despicably villainous monster no matter how sympathetic his backstory. It makes him interesting but he is utterly vile in every way.
Not that 99% of the dirtbags in the show are any better. They are almost all horrible people. It says a lot when a douchebag like Soldier Boy is one of the more moral characters.
He is also a fascinating villain and a fun element in the story. But he is a truly hateable monster.
Agreed. More relatable doesnt mean Homelander deserves anything good happening to him. And yeah, there are even less moral characters in this show than in Game of Thrones. Theyre either murderers and villains, and/or modern leftists who are portrayed as heroic, yet theyre anything but.
Starlight murdered a white guy in cold blood and nobody brought it up since. Firecracker's smear campaign on her is also effective because its all true.
Hughie also killed and actually enjoys coming out on top, last ep also demonstrated that.
MM is blatantly racist constantly against whites, but of course its okay.
And these are just the ones not damaged beyond repair, unlike Butcher, Frenchie and Kimiko. (Not that they try to portray Butcher as heroic, he is the exception. Writers want you to hate him as much as Homelander.)
The thing with butcher, i think is cancer cells somehow absorbed the V and he has some kind of Super Cancer now.

The current feeling of spiraling out of control in Season 4 is clearly a reference to Game of Thrones falling off in Season 4 ... right ? right ?
It's interesting how they poke fun at both sides when it comes to political ideologies, while at the same time, the show does feel like it's made by one of the sides. The quality of writing has gone down, they compensate with more gore and outlandish sexual overtones.

Im literally reading these comments and such as I watch the season and particular episode; wtf are you people all talking about?
There were some awkward things but I think it's getting more interesting for the long run.
Same thing happened with Fallout; (i am a huuuuuuge fan) I watched videos from here and some other youtubers who hated it and avoided it for a while. When I actually watched it, I liked it 7/10 maybe.
I realize more and more that these channels, just like the content they criticise, are entertainment as well.
Frenchie basically withheld information from Collin that would have caused Collin to never get romantically involved with him. So they made Frenchie a "Weinstein." They have not done Starlight any favors. With her killing a man in cold blood in S2. While I can understand why she was angry at Firecracker for the medical records. They've already established that Firecracker is nowhere near as powerful as Starlight. And these are the people they want to portray as heroic.
If the writers could have kept their deranged politics out of this show, it could have been one for the ages. Instead, dispite all the great effects work and acting, it's going to age really poorly.
Lookin good there arch. Lol

Their attempts to make people hate Homelander by making him laughably evil just made him more entertaining. Villains who are just evil are fun to see.
The lady provoking Homelander did it because she realized that she isn't getting out of there. You can even see the actress portray it, first she is scared then she realizes that there is no way out.
This is because she is a professional and she knew that Homelander is beyond her control.
Wouldn't provoking him make things *worse?*
Even though Starlight has her faults and she let Firecracker get the better of her in episode 4, you can't say that Firecracker didn't have that azz whooping coming from Starlight. Just saying...
What irks me about the season 4 discussion at this point is how people remark that it's always been political and people are ignorant for not realizing it till now... The problem is that before it wasn't so obviously biased in how it satirized events or at least had something to poke fun at on *all* the major issues... not just inserting the politics of what people obviously see as ONE political leaning entirely on the characters we're being told we're supposed to dislike.
edit:
On Frenchie... i think people are hung up on the wrong details. His gay romance isn't a problem due to him being suddenly gay... but that this random romance with someone other than Kimiko that alienated them (re: Kimiko and Frenchie) entirely is what made little sense.
he was established as bi and he had interactions even in the first seasons. if they would have kept him ambivalent, nobody would have cared. but this is pure hatred and agenda pushing so the show get what it deserves
