Seriously, I own a 23' Golf R 20th Anniversary, and happened to see this posting for the 24', and I have to say, this is one of the better reviews out there with great information and feedback. Not as in depth as some, performance oriented as others, but I think it hits a sweet spot for those looking for a well detailed review of the Golf R. Well done.
Finally someone does a proper review on a black golf R thank you!

I'll take one without the 10k markup 😂
Or the crap options the dealer adds on. I would have bought one for msrp over a month ago but they had added on about $9000 worth of crap they couldn’t even explain. Same car still sitting in the show room today and I’ve got my mk6 gti in tip-top shape to hopefully last for years to come. They know how to kill potential buyer enthusiasm.
I got same car and color from carmax 2022 with no mark
Up
Put your name on the waiting list at your local dealership there’s gonna be no mark up!
Just picked mine up for msrp in Canada
@gigglybeast I still have my 2019 Golf SE and gave up on the new R period. I started looking at the BMW 750 again .LOL
Great video, man!
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
Picked up mine 2 weeks ago. Still learning all the features my MK7 R didn’t have. Knob-less dash is a little challenging at first but as with anything, the more you use it, the better you get at it. Definitely a blast to drive. Great review as well.
Thanks so much!
I just brought mine home this week. Although being in Australia we pay way too much for these cars. I love it so far, still learning about all its features. Sadly the manual model wasn’t available in Australia which is a shame because I love driving a manual. Thank you for the insight to this fun car.
Great rundown of the functionalities… but you missed one of the most important ones: AWD!! Can’t get that on a GTI. Very useful in the Northeast.
Living in the DMV area , the AWD is the huge deciding factor for me . Looking to get either the GTI or R next weekend
Professionally reviewed!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Solid honest review; a great car seriously let down by the shiny black touch haptic crap. Such a shame they went it that direction you have to wonder what they were thinking.
Nice review!!. I just want to share that when you guys are reviewing a car that some how is meant to be sporty you can't judge to much on interior comfort or luxury finishes, because as more sound treatment or leather and cushioning, more weight and price is added to these already loaded with technology, as and example, the awd technology is coming straight from audi. Another one is the brz or gr86, people complain about lots of plastic and simplicity in the interior, but at the same time they want a light weight and balance car, you can't have both at a good price.
Nice job! overall I loved the review👍
I hope they are going to put on the engine cover or is that an option?
Good review brother. I’m still going to get one while I can get a manual because I think that will be a big deal down the line but also because I haven’t had to shift a car in so long that I’m looking forward to it. Ultimately yes you can get an Audi for this price, but not with that performance so I’m OK with the cost cutting that VW has done there. Overall excellent review.
Excellent balanced review from a salesperson. I really want to get one but the buttons have me pausing.
Thank you! I’m not a salesperson so I always give my honest opinions to help people make decisions!
Does it have engine stop/start, and if so, can you leave it off?
Love the styling. Grown up, not boy racer. Can you get it without a sunroof?
Hoping to save up 20% and trade in my 22 wrx for one of these
Thank you for this....I'm seriously consider one after driving one yesterday but have two concerns. 1: I live down a 4 mile grave/dirt road not ideal.. 2: Also do you think it would be comfortable andquiet on a long road trip say 1500 miles out there with the semi? Not the best car for this but what do you think?
I have a 2017 Golf R and have taken it on many road trips. Quiet and comfortable! The drive assist is also great for those longer trips.
@@t_cooke Thanks for that, do the semi trucks blow you around some? I will wait for the 2025 that is suppose to have buttons, I would buy the 24 but the infotainment system is not ideal for me, I really think the 25s will be better and most likely cost more, seems like a lot of people are complaining about no buttons, have a good one.
The thing I struggle with is that I don't care about the extra HP of the R so I'm leaning towards a GTI autobahn.... but I live in an area with a lot of snow in the winters so the AWD of the R is apealing. Either way id wait for the 25 models tho because personally, the big screen is nice. I like having a bigger screen so I can see the nav easier without having to take my eyes off the road as much.
Mine will be here in 3 weeks
Really want one so bad
Did you wear the blue shirt to match the cars interior? Plz say yes.
I always have the blue pullover on…. Love when it works out 😏
So….I went from ‘22 GTI to Ford Explorer ST, it has all features plus massage chairs & 400 hp AWD…… So R can be agile in congested traffic but look at your rear view mirror……. There’s a monster-quick black Explorer on your tail enjoying a massage just waiting for an opening to blow past you
I noticed Canadian models are quite a bit cheaper. I just picked up mine for 52k before tax which is about 39k US. The sucky part is in BC we have a luxury tax over 55k and I had to pay 15% tax😭
Same. The usd/ cnd exchange doesn’t make sense on this model.
@@Crazychrissy4Right? The North American specs are the same for both Canada and the states so I don’t understand why they are way cheaper here
@@adamfehr1994 ya , usually it’s the opposite. !
About time someone finally got it right. Hey pal, does it come with remote start?
I had mine for a month, no remote start
@@hanx9970 what a shame all that money paid and the least they could've done is add a remote start!!
@@hanx9970what about on the VW app?
@@rgonzalez6735it’s built in Germany where command start is illegal on new cars due to their Strick idling laws
There's an available carbon package which will make that trim real carbon fiber.
❤❤❤❤❤
I put 10K miles on the 2023 Golf R 20th edition that comes with the speen manual and for this price VW could have done better with clutch/linkage. I trade it in for the Golfr 2024 with the DSG and what a great difference of driving erxperience.
Power folding mirrors?
Yup. the 24' model year gets it as standard now.
Still no engine covers? That engine bay will be a nightmare to clean.
Really? That's inexcusable after all this time.
Time to trade my Gulia Veloce for R.
I have a 3month old Audi S3, same car essentially. Very happy I went with it over the R. Interior is a step above and in the real world the performance is no different in my experience. I.e. stonking, not much can touch it in full attack settings. Subjectively I think Audi always look better than VW. In UK they are similar price so it’s down to preference.
Actually, a lot of people don't like the manual. Otherwise VW wouldn't be cancelling it. I do not like being locked into a single color accent. I'd much better prefer the accents to match the body color. Increasing the color palate should be the next update.
Los materiales interiores no se han renovados duros puerta
I love Volkswagen expecily the Golf model, but the new models have less and less features and quality than previous models and are more expensive. It is like Volkswagen is the new Opel or KIA. No practicality , poor quality, less features and big prices will make the costumers look for other models and brands. I beg Volkswagen to fix all this things so we can continue to buy this brand.
Of course, the Golf from 1999 had memory seats, ventilated seats, parking sensors
Yes, having owned 7 Golf's 6,7,7 Face-lift, I've seen the changes quite well. I'm on the fence right now on the R so I've redirected to BMW'S
If the MK8 Golf R was the “ultimate” hot hatch, it wouldn’t be highly ridiculed for its bad interior. It’s a great vehicle other than that.
I did moved from the 7.5 to a manual 8 and I don’t regret it at all. Mechanicals are better in general. Yeah the infotainment is a long shot but not bad once you learn it and adapt. The thing I hate are all those mandatory European nannies (driver assistance stupidity) that cannot be permanently turned off. That’s it. I’m sure eventually we will find a way to turn them off. Bottom line is just software. I don’t need nor want driver assistance. Let me drive my car peacefully!. If I want it to turn or brake by itself. Then I take Uber! If I’m behind the steering wheel. Let me drive like a responsible adult. I definitely do not need nanny’s
I’ve never bought a car before someone dumb this down for me
Really looking to buy one of these
What would you like to know?
@@BachmanVolkswagenLouisville compared to the previous versions this is the only one that has automatic?
No, as mentioned in the video, you can get manual or automatic. However this is the latest model year that will be offering a manual option
@@BachmanVolkswagenLouisville
oh ok i just got my license recently so this is definitely my want as a first car. Not sure if you deal with the selling details and what not but do you suggest a brand new 2024 or a used? And if used what mileage should I be looking for that’s not too bad?
Nope! I'll stick to my mk 7.5
The price you pay and you don't even get brembos or more power
The power is fine (well, you can never have too much power) but yes, it really does need the Brembos to be taken seriously. Especially when you get them on then cheaper Honda Civic R.
Golf r made in Germany gti isn’t that’s worth 5000
GTI made in Germany now also.
@@ricktrue8441correct,prev gen is made in Mexico
We can't hear the engine sounds, performance at corners & so on
as this guy talks
too much non stop ......
It’s a hatchback.
Yes it is.
Cubic feet? Whyyyyyy
That’s how cargo area is displayed
You’re paying for performance. Try finding the performance specs at a lower price. You can’t.
Actually, you can. But t he point of the Golf R is the balance between handling and comfort. That's where is in a class by itself. Neither the Honda nor the Corolla can match it.
Too Expensive!!! My Local Stealer (Pete Moore) in Pensacola wants 5.5k over sticker & won’t even like you test drive one !!!! Rep off!!!
That's your dealer, not the manufactures.
Hipster mullet get yourself a Kia
Huh?
Not even remotely worth $45K! I'll buy a used original R MK4 R32 for less slap on pleanty go fast parts ans still have plenty of money left and that sweet VR6 music 🎶
Compared to what?
Oddly for a performance sedan, I found the R's sport leather seats quite wide and not as sporty and "confined" as other sport seats such as those in the Civic SI or R or the new WRX non-Recaro sport buckets. The bolsters are not as aggressive and they feel almost sedate and "pedestrian" especially considering the performance caliber of the R.
Still touch capacitive 🤮🤮🤮
Based on what I’ve read they’re phasing out the touch capacitive stuff
That DCT is weak point. Guaranteed to break.
The worse car in it's class
Hater?
