I think the best solution for terrain is non-symmetrical with a terrain template next to the table so any pieces they get moved or bumped can be placed back correctly.

I share Andrew's addiction. I see one thing about an army that is cool and the next I know I've bought a tonne of minis for that army. I don't even want to think about how much plastic on sprues I have squirreled away.

      The addiction is real.

as Andrew's supplier of hobby crack, i can confirm his passion and addiction to army collection. I think i have sold him 3 or 4 armies over the years since WFB died and i moved on to other games. had a bit of regret re the Orc army i sold, but oh well, gives me the opportunity to start one anew.

Thanks for that chat. The terrain rules are great & I think ppl should go with what they want rather then a bad definition of six features. March is good too, but requires some tray planning.
RE hoarding. I think Josh is on the money. Plan a project/s, make it realistic, estimate the time you have each week to hobby, each fortnight to play and if you’re not using things or ever plan on going back for a year then it’s Mari Meko time.

I collect all the factions but I enjoy the building, painting and I finish them.

Pure discipline Sir. I just buy then put in a box for 5 years.

I think that’s normal. If you don’t have an enjoyment of building and painting, you still have the dreams and inspiration. When I was a teenager, I didn’t like to build in paint and I collected massive armies. I played with them all gray.

Regarding Marching Column, I have considered running 18 Saurus in a 4x4 plus 2 in 5th rank, so I can 3x march, then take a few shooting casualties, and then I am in Combat Formation and can charge, without having to spend a turn reforming.
Or having my 10 Saurus Cavalry with Drilled in 3x3 + one in 4th rank, to 3x march and the use Drilled to redress next turn, as long as they pass their Stupidity test

    Biggest hits for me:
    1. No step up. I prefer all the editions pre-8th where step up didn’t exist, so I’m glad it’s not in TOW. Step up tends to make me feel like movement, initiative and getting the charge isn’t important.
    2. Charge distances. Movement + d6 is great. Much improved over 8th’s movement + 2d6, which made cavalry feel pointless.

I replaced addiction of buying minis with addiction to printing minis. Try it! You'll run out of storage space before long

I counted recently and have stuff for 10 Old World armies. It's almost all been bought second hand, so was not really a financial burden. My real issue is playing multiple game systems, with multiple armies for each (primarily a symptom of having moved around and switching play groups). 40k, AoS, Bolt Action, Flames of War, MESBG, other random historicals....
On the topic of Hits and Misses, I love the combined profile for ridden monsters, they just did a really poor job of balancing it. Marching column seems great for units with Stubborn, so you can march up, get charged FBIGO and reform into combat order and Counter Charge and Drilled together.

I really like the lack of step up combined with the +3 from a charge. It makes initiative matter but also makes charging matter.
I don't understand why people treat the rank bonus as different. If you're close order and 3 total ranks, you get +3 the same as you did in 6th. Sure there's no incentive to go 4 ranks deep, but those units got super expensive and it's hard to paint so many models.
Sure, I do agree there's not enough incentive today to run bigger blocks. I wish the linehammer rule was a little more punishing, like maybe only one extra guy on each side or something. Not *all* of them.
Someone said line of sight rules were a hit and I disagree. They are not well worded for units. They tried to use the same wording for a model as for a unit and it doesn't make sense. If a model is obscured but less than half, it gets partial cover. Cool, sure. If a unit is partially obscured but less than half, it gets partial cover. Now... Wait... What does it mean for 50% of a unit to be obscured. Does that mean 50% of the models are 100% obscured, or does it mean 100% of the models are 50% obscured, or does it mean 50% of the models are 50% obscured? Or even 50% of models 10% obscured? Does it matter if some models are wholly out of sight?
Also, the rules on forests don't make sense. You can get full cover by having 51% of your guys behind a low wall, but if all the models in a unit are in a wood with 12" of forest between them and an enemy unit, they still only get partial cover.
Also there's no rules for determining if a given wood is dangerous or not. (This is later but someone mentioned woods, so here we are.)

Changing charging from your unit strikes first to +3 Initiative is one of my favorites. Like you say, it makes Initiative actually matter.

    • @NateFinch
      @NateFinch PĹ™ed mÄ›sĂcem +1

@@perfidy1103 100% it made charging too good in 6th where you'd change two handed weapons from strike last to strike first. Now there's actual trade offs.

Symmetrical terrain bad because it's like an esport is a pretty stupid take, what's the alternative for a tournament? Either the TO sets it up at the start of every round, which is impossible, or you have player placed terrain which leads to even worse looking tables and is easy to exploit. Don't mind me whilst I place all the impassable pieces infornt of the hill with all my warmachines on :)
