Jailed for running away from home to escape abuse, for allegations of adultery, premarital sex and other "moral crimes," the women of Afghanistan's Badum Bagh prison band together to fight for their freedom.
Produced and directed by Tanaz Eshaghian, "Love Crimes of Kabul" follows three young prisoners as they go to trial, revealing the pressures and paradoxes that women in Afghanistan face today, and the dangerous consequences of refusing to fit into society's norms.
This riveting documentary straightforwardly captures the Afghan theocracy's soulless treatment of women (and men) who show human affection and express the love in their hearts. Moreover, it reveals how religion-based laws have corrupted those relationships into exploitative prostitution, and turned judges, clerics, parents and relatives into pimps.
A very bleak subject presented with a delicate soundtrack make for a very sad film. Please watch and leave your comment below. Thank you for being a loyal viewer of us!

You took the words out of my mouth. This sentence seems to symbolize the whole dark idea there that a woman's life is measured based on the question of who is the man next to her. Very sad + Clearly unethical. The father of that woman who was in prison said that now, when she agreed to marry that guy, she would be the servant of his family, but her father himself does not see her as anything more than his own property, an object, a means of getting rich through her being sold...very primitive

At first, I really felt bad for Kareema, but as her story started to unfold, the more things started to seem calculated. She told Firuz if you don't marry me, I'll have you locked up. She didn't say it was because she was pregnant, she said it was because was in love with him and couldn't deny it. When they got married, she said she asked for 30K because she wanted to be married forever and he should want to be married forever, too. Tbh, she seemed obsessed with him, and for Kareema, the pregnancy had little to do with the reason why she wanted to marry him. It's okay to be in love, but you can't trick or manipulate someone into marrying you. That's just crazy.

Oh she held the guy at gunpoint and got pregnant???? LOL Don't be jealous that she got her man. People need to stop hating on her because she is Hazara. I'm glad she stood up for herself, which is very risky and extremely brave, considering how women get killed and no one bats an eyelid.

I just love Aleema, what an amazing young woman. I'm so proud of her for being strong in her convictions even under such an incredibly unfair situation. I hope she's not been harmed by anyone since this was filmed. I have the same hope for all these women, what they live under is so unfair that they really can't win. I wonder when this was filmed and where they all are now. I fear things have gotten far worse since then.

I feel so sad for those beautiful daughters, and sons caught in the horrible, harsh, unfair system. If it was up to me, I would adopt those beautiful daughters for our sons here. We can look after them and love them, give them the freedom to love and be free.

Mean while, on the other side of Kabul, group of men are smoking heroine and meth, and they still roaming the city and commit crimes, but that is ok? I don't understand this at all.
Furthermore, instead of providing citizens with services jobs and education, so the society will be better economically, the government focus on dramatic event and personal side of people. How are the population going to rise above the poverty. I don't understand the priority of the government.

Am I the only one who thinks that Kareema is a bit psycho? Clearly the only reason the guy is marrying her is to avoid 15 years in prison and she’s at the courthouse arguing about getting a dowry and gifts. I don’t think she realizes the gravity of the situation. He and his family will make her life unbearable.
