    A bucket of water works to get out the dirt. That's what we do to transplant seedlings in the aquaponics unit. Now, got to wait till early January to transplant the Brown Turkey. Right now, I should take cuttings and wrap them in wet newspaper for a few months. Plenty of room in the fridge. Merry Christmas!

    SPEAKING of bonsai and root care, go get yourself a "root hook," which is essentially a hand rake with only one tine. Great for getting in there and raking out big roots like these and getting down to the bare roots. Cheers Mike, thanks for all the great tips!

    What a great way to incorporate your viewers into a video. When I finish domesticating my woods, I would love to swap some dry root plants with you. That’s a season or two away for me, clearing the land is a bit more involved for one man than I thought. Thank goodness for hydraulic power.

      Haha, I know all about clearing land. I've done it by hand, with old equipment both small and big, and hired help. In 15 years I've realized that sometimes it's best to just hire the right guy with the right equipment to come out and get the job done in an 8 hour day.

    It's like Santa's been to your house already, Mike LOL. I was thinking, I wonder if you could propagate that fat root that you just cut off. I heard you could with fat roots but not sure about figs. Maybe in the future, when you come across roots like that to give it a go for us :).
    btw, my White Adriatic fig that I put in the ground 3 years ago has finally fruited. In the last two years, I've been whining that it's lazy to give me fruit. I read somewhere that tip pruning encourages side shoots or fruiting. Last spring, I did that and voila, it worked. Now, I'm a momma to about 16 fruits on my little tree. I'm going to try and marcot a branch that is sticking out in my walkway. My family doesn't get why I'm always talking about this fig tree LOL. They will later in the New Year when it ripens. I tell ya, for one fruit at the store is about $1.50. Winning! :)
    In case I forget, I wish you, your wife, and your daughters a Merry Christmas.
    p.s., you made a lot of people out there excited about propagating plants and that's really cool. :)

    Mike: I sent you some cuttings from the Tehama White Mulberry in the antiquities area of the Mendocino National Forest Seed Farm. Several weeks later I found the letter I had intended to ship with it showing photos of the tree and the tags attached with all the cultivar information. Anyway if you got an envelop from Chico California full of cuttings with no information included thats what it was.

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  Před 2 lety

      Glenda, I'm so sad to say that they are no longer with us, lol. I did receive the cuttings and thought that it was really cool that you sent them but they weren't labeled and I had no idea what they were. I kept them in my fridge for months while my wife grumbled at me, in the hopes that an identification would eventually come forward. I went back and forth about trying to root the branches but since I had no idea what I was dealing with, and the pressure was mounting, I had to get rid of them. I actually got rid of them just a week or 2 ago. I so wish that I would have seen this just a few weeks ago. Now I'm more interested in them than ever! For the life of me, I can't remember if I put them in the garbage or threw them on the burn pile (I know, the horror) but I'm going to run out and look all over the burn pile right now! I have so many projects going on and I need to know what it is that I'm working with and unfortunately we crossed paths just a little late. Not sure if you'd ever have access to the plant again but knowing what I know now, I'd root them for sure. I am very glad that you have finally come forward and I at least have a person to talk to about it, lol. I suppose I should have just wrote you back!

      I'll answer it but it may not be what you want to hear, lol. I've actually never used worm tea. I'm more of the mindset that you plant it in ground and let the worms do their thing in the soil. In pots, I use slow release fertilizer but the goal is always to get them in the ground. I know that probably doesn't help but maybe I'll get into doing some experiments with worm tea eventually. I will say that I have had a worm casting bin in the past and the worm castings make some of the best fertilizer imaginable.
