I have been working hard all day, kind of worn out, it’s actually fun to come home, sit back and relax and watch you work on my TV, Everything always turns out nice when you get done with it.
There was a lot of good tutorials in this video Tony!! Fun fact: That digital clock was standard in the LTD Landau and LTD Country Squire wagon. The other models had an analog clock. And the quality on them wasn't very good. When we took delivery of our special order 1978 Ford Country Squire wagon, the clock was broken. We had to bring the car back in the first week of ownership to have it replaced under warranty. And sadly, when the new clock was installed, the dealer didn't align it correctly so those silver bars(outlines) embedded in black panel of the clock face weren't horizontal. My father had to remove it just like you did in this video and make sure it was square before tightening up the screws. Brings back memories.
Wow.....I didn't realize dealerships were so careless back then. I guess some things never change. This new clock keeps perfect time and is quite as a mouse.
I agree 100% with the comment about hoods open at a car show. It just shows me that the owner doesn't care about the style and looks of the car. If someone wants to see the engine compartment then they can open it for them.
Yeah i had to chuckle when Tony made that comment because i thought i was the only person who felt that way about wanting to see the entire car properly. The shape and body lines of the car get all distorted when the hood is open.
It's nice that you only have to remove the radio knobs and 2 screws for the trim piece to get to the clock and not have to pull the whole dash. And it's great that you found a working clock. I'm really enjoying these videos and looking forward to seeing more. Great work!
@@tonyscarcare5657 Hello Tony, nice video, these clocks (including Lincoln's Continental 70s) sometimes work but just not keep track of time, as if they some lubrication on the mechanical parts, you think it is easy to open the clock and fix it?
I love your statement "I hate black walls" !! Me too!! Also, change out the cigarette lighter on your wagon to the correct one. Don't forget to check your transmission fluid! I LOVE your cars!
Depending on the car, white walls or white lettered tires can really compliment the style of the car. I'm not a big fan of black walls either, but it depends on the car.
Nice job on the "Light Buzz" refresh/repair of the clock Tony! Any "Cold War Motors" You Tube viewers will recognize this as one of their part repair and refresh segments.
I agree with all comments that have been posted so far. They all have hit the nail on the head. You are the best at showing everything you do and explaining as you go along, we all have learned a lot from you.
Thank you so much! That's what I sat out to do when I started my channel. I really hope I'm helping to give people the confidence to do these things themselves and save money.
You made the right call on replacing the radiator Tony. When I had my 1991 Crown Victoria LX wagon restored in 2020 my mechanic Butch told me that the original radiator was becoming delaminated so I told them to replace it. Since I was getting the engine and transmission rebuilt there was no sense putting the old radiator back in . In regards to your comments on white wall tires versus black walls - no contest . In my opinion white walls on these cars is the only way to go. I had all new white walls put on the 1991 in 2020, on my Mercury Grand Marquis in 2023 ( Hankook ) and just this year 4 new white walls ( Uniroyal Tiger Paws ) on my 1987 Crown Victoria wagon. As you say they are attainable if you look for them. Good luck with the Country Squire. I am sure it will be greatly admired at the car shows as are my wagons.
Good job inspiring confidence in others that are just getting started. I found a set of Lincoln turbine wheels but I need to see them in person for a quality check. Take care, stay cool, and see you next time.
Thank you, Mike! I'm glad you found the wheels. I hope they are good once you lay your eyes on them. I hope I'm giving people the confidence to do these repairs themselves.
Tony, I used to own a ‘79 Buick Electra Park Avenue like the one you saw at the shop, only a 4-door. Bought it from the original elderly owner. The Park Avenue trim got you a super-posh crushed velour loose-pillow interior, shag carpet and assorted Cadillac bits. Mine had the Olds 403. What a gorgeous car, especially with the chrome Buick wheels like on the one you saw.
Glad to see you giving the Country Squire a few last touches before you head to Dearborn. And like you, I think these cars just don't look right without white sidewall tires. I run the Hankooks on my '73 Marquis and they are great.
I am enjoying this I had a 1977 Ford country squire lite yellow wood paneling. And grew up up a 1968 Ford country squire red 390 in it mine had the 400
Always cool to see some classics at a shop. Love the Buick. I went with Hankook white walls for my Lincoln TownCar, that was all I could find, I’ve been really pleased with them. I would love to find a working clock for my TowCar, it makes noise, but the plastic gears are stripped I guess.
Yes, one of the gears is what usually goes out in them. However, this one didn't make any noise at all. But the new one works great and is quite as a mouse as well.
Job well done Tony we had the Landau Luxury group on our 1975 Country Squire at the time we thought The Mechanical digital clock was cool Ford was notorious back in the 70s & 80s for shipping Customers factory specked ordered cars void of what was actually ordered Yes this happened at Chry Co AMC & GM but again Ford was notorious for this fallacy even getting the color wrong the dealers always blamed the Order Processing Center And Ford came back at the dealership Manager and told them they need to take their time & double check the PO order codes when when useing the Punch Key device with the aluminum plate Properly inserted in the machine then they wire the information to the assembly plant and still Mail in the punch plate about the size of a Cars License plate
Hi Tony, it was nice to see that the new radiator are working well. It have to of course and its fun to hear that you hav a bird near your garage, it is very talkative. And as usual i like to see you tinkering with your cars. And by the why i can not give the video a tums up, it is not working, sorry.
I'll recommend one thing with your new radiator & coolant...grab a can of "Water Wetter,"Super Coolant" or whatever the maker wants to call it. It's just bottle of surfactant & water pump lube. Stuff does work, they all do the same thing
That wagon is going to be really nice when you get done with it. You are so careful with your cars. You said that you’re going to Dearborn with the car. Is that at Greenfield village on father’s day weekend? If so may see you there. Enjoy your desire to make the restoration factory correct, and the white walls. Black walls just don’t cut it on those older cars.
Man, there is something to be said for the aesthetics of hidden mounting hardware. But there sure is a lot to be said for gaining access access to items in less than two-minutes, with no anxiety over the sound (and cost!) of breaking plastic compression tabs and clips.
It sure seems strange seeing that GM style compressor under the hood! I was going to ask what all the wire leads were for on your bench, but you answered that question. I was cringing watching you with that clock face, surely know what would have happened if I was messing with it. All this reminds me, I have to replace the damn radiator on my car...
If it had 4 channel Quadrasonic sound, the best seats would be back at the checkerboard table. Humans don't detect the direction of sound from behind their head as they do for sound in front of them. Quad tends to be most effective when it's at the side and infront of the listener. That wagon would probably sound pretty nice in 4 channel.
Yeah my 77 Lincoln town Coupe needs a radiator 400 bucks. A four row radiator. Car overheats, it has a startup running problem. I want to yank the 460 and put in a turbo diesel but that would cost a lot of money and have too many cars. But a 460 in today's gas prices just isn't worth it in a big car. I restore Hood ornaments. I'm always needing the bottom mounting pieces I have plenty of light new top part pieces.
I'll definitely keep it to play with sometime. A lot of times, the gears are stripped. This one wasn't making a sound. Neither does the new one, but it keeps perfect time.
The wagon is looking great! You mentioned the Quadrasonic 8 track player...are they a direct plug in when replacing an am/fm stereo unit? Do you know if they are the same between LTDs and Tbirds? Thinking of installing one in my 78 TBird
Good work Tony. Did you have the rear (tailgate area) painted, or stained? And does it last? Also are you going to put in automatic temperature control, or climate control?
I've said multiple times that I just haven't had the time to get everything done and be able to drive it around here enough to see how road worthy it is. It definitely needs a u-joint, and I'm out of time. It's 500 miles up there.
OLD cars were the best! My 2022 Ford Maverick is something I don't even lift the hood for, awful. Thank you federal government for silly crap. Why I kept my 1970 Montego!
