- Hey friends,
Not long ago I had seen a post from @DonohueLabs and @WorldofRockhounds regarding #ObsidianWeek for 2023! I had a brief sinus surgery this past week but am feeling better and was able to get my footage together before the week ended and get this posted! We will blame any errors on the last of the pain meds 😅
In this video we slab some different obsidian specimens and end up making a couple freeform cabochons from a beautiful piece of mahogany Obsidian! I love the way this material looks so it definitely wont be the last time I work with it!
Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for watching Jeannette!
Very nice mahogany obsidian ❤ great polish!
Thank you!
Out of all the Obsidian is Mahogany-it holds dear to my Heart, Soul, Spirit because it REMINDS ME OF MY POPS WHO WENT ON TO THE OTHER SIDE WHENN I WAS 13yrs Old. We Did a Lot Of Wood working with Mahogany when growing up in Guam as a Kid. But I do like all the other Obsidians!!!
Very cool stuff for sure! I plan to snag some more after working with it for this challenge.
Hey thanks for joining in! Nice to find a new channel like yours with good informational content, I always appreciate people walking through their process/thinking when making projects like this.
Hey, thanks! I’m new to this but I figure I can at least explain where my head is at when I’m working on things. Appreciate you guys for putting together the theme week!
Nice Job, Young Man.
Thanks!
Thank you for taking part in obsidian week and showing your steps! Good job!
Thanks dude, appreciate you guys for putting it together!
I did not Know that there was an Obsidian Month??? I came across this channel while researching Slabbing, Trimming and Cabbing High Grade Chrysocolla From U.S o A and around the World.
Oi amigo, aqui é Alê do Brasil....
Hello! 👋
Good video. I usually rough out the stone by hand on my flat lap. I still get dinged sometimes on the fingers but I seem to have more control with a bigger piece. I use the dobb stick for finishing on the cab.softer stones need more finesse and more time but the shine is worth it
For sure! Softer stuff has definitely taken me some time, especially since I learned working agates.
Dude... I got a box from there about a month ago... lol. I haven't cut any yet... I've had many dragon skins before, so i knew they would be awesome ... after watching you... I'm thinking tomorrow... I think I got the last or 1 of the last boxes left... It's probably the same area... I live in central oregon... but that was a good box ... thanks for the preview
I still have a bunch of them to cut too lol, that’s awesome!
Is that an Ameritool flat lap? It looks like mine. Sweet it is MADE IN REDDING, CA. And use your under sid of your wrist to wipe off the stone, especially soft stones.
Sure is, thanks for the tip! 🙏
@@CedarStoneCreations I am almost on my second set of soft pads for it.
Those are nice dude 👍
Glad you like them!
Pretty
Thanks! 🙏
Could you please steady your camera? I know it's hard to do, but I'm getting seasick!
Working on it, I think I mentioned at one point that I’d be grabbing a tripod in the video
