This short video provides a clear example of tidal rapids running at full power and why knowing and following the timing of the tides is essential for safe passage. This film was shot in 2014
Mr. Fleming. Your videos are absolutely splendid. Your adventures, musical arrangement and narrative abilities are simply masterpieces of mankind. Bravo! To you and your crew!
Wonderful videos, thank you. In the summers my cousin and I travel up through E and W Thurlow Islands, Johnton Strait and the Broughtons. I still shudder a bit each time going though the Dent Rapids, though usually at slack. My 24' Express Cruiser with 260hp is more than capable passing though it but once, at "Devils Hole" there, without warning a whirlpool appeared and I swear the boat dropped 3-4 ' into it. It's marked with a scull and crossbones on my chartplotter now. Amazing waters to cruise though.
Beautiful footage of a beautiful area. I passed through there last week, at slack. One day, I’ll have to do the jet boat ride to see the full force of the rapids!
hello Dan, how are you doing. I hope you are safe and in good health. Looking for a new friend and i saw your pic here. I hope you don't mind thank you.
Thank you! ❤ -- These adventures of yours are truly amazing. I am so glad that you are documenting all of this. You are like the Jacques Cousteau of crusing!
My friend born and raised on Queen Charlotte used to take his aluminum open skiff in search of whirlpools. They'd jump the boat over the smaller whirlpools. Sometimes they could look down to see the bottom. One area I would like to venture is the inside passage and the myriad channels.
I did not know this took place and that the channels between the island and mainland became like rushing rivers... simply amazing and awesome. Thank you for this video!
A great water level view of the rapids. Strict attention to the tide tables is essential. Don’t be late. PS - Yuculta seems to be pronounced by the locals as ‘Euclataw’.
Pretty good video. You don't see much footage of the rapids around here running decently. It's a thing to see, and experience. (Went through Green Point as a kid on relatives' boat; they were late getting the tide. Their kitchen table decided to fly across the room when the current gave the boat a yank. Not a small boat.)
You are the David Attenborough of the Cruising world. Your videos remind me of when I was 10 watching the Jacque Cousteau show. Something about the way you talk in your videos makes one a kid again dreaming about adventure.
Years ago I piloted a single screw six cylinder 40 foot boat through there en route to Quadra island marina. At slack of course. Caution caused me to firewall the throttle on the slack still water, and when the boat kicked 45 degrees to port, after straighting it out, I looked back to see a whirlpool formed with a dead head log about 50 ft. long turning in the whirlpool. At the dock on Quadra, a guy with a mall boat similar to mine had a small fishing skiff in tow, with no motor or gear on it. He was fishing and got caught in a rip / whirlpool and got sucked down by the stern, and tossed into the water. NO LIFE JACKET!!! A proper guide fishing there pulled him out of the water by the shirt collar, and his loat surfaced about 300 yards down stream. Cheated death.
The question I have to ask is what is everyone lose on your boat doing is it all eyes on the glass? To you eat on board,do you fish? Do you ever watch without the camera?
I never noticed rapids, which is why I watched this video, but you got to see Bigfoot trying to catch fish and the same narrator every 80’s kid had to listen to growing up. Consider this a win. 😂🤣🤡

The music score and the Rapids where in perfect concert, that was exciting!

Thank you so much for the wonderful Venture videos.
Once again, Tony, what a wonderful spot and description! Truly amazing! Thank you!
I’ve been in the rapids twice, and they are spectacular and frightening at the same time. Well worth a trip to See them.
I don't know of another channel I enjoy so much. Thank you.
My word this is something to see. It is hard to imagine such a powerful current.
That was very nice. Thank you Tony.

👍👍 That was awesome! Also loved the scene with Venture in the background.

The Power of Mother Nature is truly awesome...... A warning to us all.... :-))))
This video is more professional than a professional thing that has just been appointed head of professionals at the university of professionalism. 👌🏻

With my name being "Dent", it's great to know that we can be a challenge.
Great flick mate.
superbe video.
Oh man that was a short one...just settled down with tea and chocolate and it was over....great as usual....
What an adventure!
Its like a roller coaster that lets you choose when to quit but only if your in control.
Fantastic
Wow, amazing. Thank you for sharing this. I can enjoy from the safety of my device... *until i save enough to go there in the flesh.*

"Here's your 4 minutes of slack water. Hope you enjoyed it." LOL
Love the mini-venture at 0:59

Your boat has some serious speed in it.
Epic!
Uau... loved it

Awesome!
A white water kayakers dream trip!
Have you been to Skookumchuck narrows B.C. ?
No. But I do know where it is and it's on my list.
Subscribed and hooked,. a rare thing and it's the simple Jack Hargreaves thing. Almost like tmes past.👍
Will you be doing the longer videos again?
When I do longer trips again - maybe next year. These shorties are just a recap of especially outstanding events or anchorages.
I have been on Vancouver Island for years and I love living there
The fishing is great. the hunting is real good for bears.
The question I have to ask is what is everyone lose on your boat doing is it all eyes on the glass? To you eat on board,do you fish? Do you ever watch without the camera?
Lekker man lekker
Damn, I thought you were going to take Venture through the rapids!!!!
Probably could have hit 20+ knots by the looks of it!!! Lol
Beautiful video.
Losing engine(s) in such a current near rocks would be my main concern.
G-d forbid.
שלום
Who is the person that provides such a beatiful voice to the commentary?
The video is just created by one person with his name at the end,
spent 12 yrs up there, i guess i know what im doing
This makes Deception Pass look like a lazy river.
Tide waits for no ONE!!
No life jackets?
Wow, you had better know your tide guide.
I would have been wearing brown trousers ......
Pretty scary....................
I wish I knew a 25% of what they know about navigating
I never noticed rapids, which is why I watched this video, but you got to see Bigfoot trying to catch fish and the same narrator every 80’s kid had to listen to growing up. Consider this a win. 😂🤣🤡
