  • In the autumn of 2007, a Fleming 65 named Venture started south from the Pacific Northwest on a voyage that would ultimately take her and her crew down the west coast of north and central America, out to the Galapagos Islands, through the Panama Canal and up the east coast of the USA into the Great Lakes and down the St Lawrence Seaway to Nova Scotia. In Part 5 Venture heads up the Intracoastal Waterway from Fort Lauderdale to New York and into the Hudson River.

Nice channel. Was into boats when I was a kid. Went to power squadron school with my father and uncle. We dropped out though but learned a lot. My father had a small wooden lyman with a four cylinder atomic engine. I had a 3hp evinrude and a 10 foot dingy. My salt water adventures was on Cape Cod. Fishing for bluefish with my father or navigating on Bass River in my dingy and finding my friends.

Mr. Fleming, I've been watching the videos as you departed Vancouver, B.C. to Alaska, and then to the Panama Canal, up to Key West and into Miami. At that point, I lost track of the videos from Miami to New York. I finally realize that THIS was the video I was missing, but I passed it over because the title was Venture II, not Venture, and I expect that this was Venture II that came over from Europe.
Might I suggest, sir, that you correct the title to Venture Intercoastal to NY?
Thank you for detailing your wonder voyage

Nice! -- QUESTION -- Is the title of this video correct - it reads "Venture II.." I think it may be "Venture I" as I believe that Venture II does not have the nice teak cap rails on the Bow??

Thanks for posting! Excellent quality video and audio. Too bad you missed (or didn't have time for) the ICW between Cape Canaveral, Florida and Beaufort, North Carolina ... there is some beautiful country there along the Intracoastal Waterway. I'd like to post a link to a series of videos I made about the complete ICW Southbound from Norfolk, Virginia to Miami, Florida. Search CZcams for "Intracoastal Waterway." (I'd post a link but this comment box doesn't allow links.)

Delightful film Tony.... I adore Your Yachts and when my Lotto comes in you will be the first to know!!! Just one thought I keep having, would it be possible for the roof of the Fly Bridge to be lowered, maybe with hydraulics, to seal it in cases of bad weather or as in this case to travel on the inland waterways?? just a thought. It could be a unique design feature..... Stay safe and please keep posting, Regards.

The radar arch can be made to be lowered by hydraulics but the hard top is another matter. That is very securely fixed in place and would be very difficult if not impossible to lower by hydraulics. If for no other reason of where would it go when lowered. It is quite large. If you want to lower it would be best to have a bimini like Venture.

@@FlemingYachts Thank You once again for taking the time to reply. I really Love the style and grace of your designs, truly Beautiful craftsmanship. I was just trying to think of a solution to the problem of low bridges. But when you are on a Yacht like this I suppose it is not a huge problem to have to wait till they open. :-))

There is no better way to tell a story than when the narrator speaks the Queens English. We Americans should learn to speak clearly and enunciate words properly. My travels to England however, proves they also should learn the same lesson.

5:00 Although it's fairly common to pronounce "Intracoastal Waterway" as "Intercoastal Waterway," it's not correct. InTERcoastal means between the coasts; inTRAcoastal means within/along the coast.

You are right. I stand corrected. It is hard to get everything exactly correct and you can be sure that someone will be happy to point out the mistakes. Thanks for watching!

Well done but you showed practically NOTHING of the scenic beauty of the mighty Hudson River, America's Rhine.
