I used a stencil from Dollar tree and stenciled Merry Christmas onto a mat. For those of us who do not have a cricket this works great. What I did not know was to seal it afterwards, thank you for that tip.

Oh you are such a smart lady! What a great idea to tape 2 cutting mats together!!!!! So simple why didn’t I think of that??? The mats are so expensive I couldn’t justify paying more for a bigger one that I wouldn’t use much! Using contact paper for stencils is such a great idea to since you are throwing out the material after you paint on it! Love your mat ideas!

Yes I will definitely try this as we get closer to the summer months and I’m ready to decorate my entryway. Right now I still have my ice skates and sled decorating that area. Can’t wait for winter to be OVER ❄️⛄️

Soooooo cute!! I've made one before and the vinyl doesn't really stick either. Not sure what will, but I'm still thinking on it. I will say once you get it in place the paint doesn't bleed, it stencils well!!! Love the phrase you used!!

Haven’t made a custom welcome mat, yet, but I’ve seen where ppl will add spray adhesive to help their stencil stick. I looks like it worked, but can’t speak from experience, yet. I love your mats!! Tfs!

So CUTE! You did a really good job freehanding the open letters. I wonder if the entire mat should be sealed, if it would wear differently than where not sealed. Loved the stripes!!

Love those, wish I had a Cricut.
Before I got my cricut, I would still use the contact paper use what ever picture or phrase and transfer it to the contact paper and use a sharpe knife to cut it out, took a while buck came out great. Just an idea! 😊

Flex seal spray works really well too & lasts great out in the elements! I have made & sold some that are still going strong 2 years later!
Do you think the flex seal works better than paint?
@@Pinkfitt in my experience it does, the flex seal is thicker plus has texture that helps it "stick" a little better to the rug weave..

Thanks for showing that contact paper didn't do the works as well as expected for the doormat. Sometimes contact paper is also too sticky for some projects. I like using contact paper as a transfer tape better. It's inexpensive too. Thanks for sharing.
Liz way cute!! You can also use freezer paper.. wax side down on the mat, lay it on the door mat and hit it with an iron. You can also use this method for shirts, canvas bags. What ever you want to stencil really.. i then use a little painters tape to hold it down, and walya your done...Wish I lived closer to an IKEA :(. But Home Depot also sells blank door mats for $9.00;). Made 4 of them for Christmas gifts this year!! They were a big HIT!!! Love your channel...YOU’RE AMAZING!!!

I heard freezer paper works as a stencil.
How many coats of finish did you put on?
Just one
A little hint...use a hair dryer on the vinyl and it will adhere better.
This is a tutorial for a Cricket people. If you do not have a Cricket don't bother watching unless you have stencils.
Cute idea but no so much for those of us without a cricket...
Woodglut has a lot of designs to choose from.
You did such a great job! I most certainly would have messed up with the contact paper! I have only done one mat and I used printer paper with straight pins all around letters to keep it down. It turned out great, but was tedious.😉
Check out How Angie at BurtonAvenue.com suggests doing mats. I’m going to try that next.
