  • The Oriental Brothers Band of Nigeria created melodious highlife tunes that soothed and eased the pains of the aftermath of the Nigerian civil war right from the early 70s. Comprising of Ferdinand Dan Satch Opara, Chirtogonus 'Sir Warrior' Obinna, Godwin Kabaka Opara, Livinus 'Aquila' Alaribe, Prince Ichita, and Alloy Anyanwu. the band was an outstanding Highlife and Guitar band that dominated the highlife scene in Nigeria and beyond. The band's existence was characterized by intriguing break-ups, departure, and reunion of the members. Godwin Kabaka was designated the leader of the band in the early years. Dan Satch took over the leadership with the departure of Kabaka from the band in 1977. Dan Satch founded the band and has kept on the core of the band despite several splits, the last major one being in 1982 when Sir Warrior left to form his own Oriental Brothers franchise. The band's impact on highlife music and the Nigerian music scene is highly significant with a combined 39 albums from the different Oriental band groupings including the 2022 release under Palenque records Label.

They were first led by Kabaka and they recorded about seven albums namely;1 ihe chi nyerem, /uwa atuolam ujor 2 oyenusi/uwa enwe meta,3 oriental special and other 5 tracks,4 tax drive/ uwamezi special,5 nwa ada di nma and other five tracks,6 nkwa number one and other 4 tracks,7 akudo special/ nnedi nobi and other 3 tracks. It was after this album that Kabaka formed another band. Then Dansatch became leader. But then, even when subsequently they reunited on a few other albums before Sir Warrior's passing in 1999, Kabaka was always their leader. Thus he was the all time leader of the Oriental Brothers. It should also be noted that Dansatch played base guitar, while Kabaka was always on the lead guitar and the rhythm guitar. Perhaps he started playing lead after Kabaka left. One thing I regret is the untimely passing of Dr Sir Warrior. He would have been the one to say it as it is. With due respect to da Emeka( Dansatch), I think that he has rather politicised the whole history all in a bid to give all the accolades to himself. But as a fan of the Oriental Brothers from childhood, I would say that their music was basically framed and flavored around Kabaka's melodious, soul stirring guitar lines( both rhythm and ad lib) and Dr Sir Warrior's legendary vocals, whilst I still hold the other members in high regard. Again Kabaka was a very modest man. He wasn't the boastful type, but whenever he picked up his guitar he would never play nonsense, u would know he had charismatic fingers...no jokes
