  • Well here is a video I didn't think I'd be making a rare secondhand opportunity came up for the UK and a bunch of used Valence U27-12XP Lithium batteries for my Camper vans electrical system. came up for sale with quite the story attached. They did need some repair work this video shows me repairing the communications cables and building a custom USB adapter so I can plug it into a computer and read their diagnostic information to learn about the history and health of these used batteries. In a future video will be installing these into the van and adding additional safety measures to the leisure circuit. This will upgrade my AGM battery Bank from 95Ah of useable power to around 350AH useable
    Each U27-12XP is 130ah. If you wish to learn more about repairing and getting the diagnostic software to work check out the how-to video on my channel

    I bought the motor, controller and rear diff adapter from one of these vehicles

      That’s pretty cool, I presumed all their other components must’ve been parted out so well! Did you use them for a project?

      @@MispronouncedAdventures Hi, I just wanted to reach out and thank you again. I tried your blue adapter, same issue. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0757N8WPG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. I used this one, works a treat, just incase you want to add as an affiliated link, might earn you some cheddar. Cheers M

      Glad I was of help and thank you for sending the link for another working model. After doing some more research on the blue adapters it appears there are two versions readily available on blue one on Amazon. One which does have the correct pin layout and one which doesn’t.

      Aye it was, I think whole Battery bank of 22 or 24 was recently disassembled and put up for sale over the course of a few weeks. I lost out on a few as well!

    Hi, fascinating to watch, I don’t think I have ever seen anyone using second hand lithium batteries. A few questions If I may:
    Do you have much previous experience with lithium batteries and battery management or is it all from research? I’m trying to gauge the difficulty level of the refurbishment you are doing.
    What is the significance of the lithium magnesium? Phosphate chemistry vs LiPo?
    Why would the coms cables be cut, seem the would be easier to sell with cables and connectors intact?
    Are you able to tie the lithium batteries with your AGM batteries as on battery or will they be separate banks. I’m curious how you would charge and discharge them as I understand the setup is different for both.

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 3 lety

      I think I’d be generally wary of most secondhand lithium batteries. However I did a lot of research before. the Valance brands batteries are a known in the second market and very popular with a reasonably large secondhand users group which is a wealth of information. Also CZcams’s go to person for lithium battery advice is “Will Prowse” CZcams channel I’d highly recommend watching his stuff. He gave the batteries for secondhand a massive boost. Refurbishment why I said generally isn’t much to do with his battery. I just cleaned some of the old dirt on them and because I wanted to connect to their diagnostic software I remade the connect.
      Although cut Communications connectors does seem a bit odd it’s extremely common with these batteries. But I might be due to their original use. A far as I’m aware these batteries generally were never available at the consumer level they were always industry batteries. Most of the ones which I’ve come across for sale on the secondhand market have come out of Electric vehicle conversion. where are usually running a bank of 24 of these. It seems when those vehicles are stripped for parts & quite often they just cut the comms cables and sell them on.
      Combining batteries together with different chemistry it is not a good idea. The standard charge for AGM is around mid to high 12V, whilst lithium is mid 13v
      As for the difference between lithium batteries with the standard LiFePO4 & and these with LiFeMgPO4. Towards the end user I don’t see any difference.

    I've got 4 of the green ones @ 138ah 1766 watt hours. Way I understand it you may be reading the software wrong. Take the total watthour discharge in your case says n/a but take it divided by 1766wh mine come up to around 385 cycle counts. The cycle count at botom is the # of times @100% discharge or under/over voltage/temp. Instead of a total cycle count of the battery 🔋 mines reading in the 6 to 11 range

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      The black models are a older rev1 version and are 130Ah 1664Whr per battery, the newer green Rev2 models 138Ah like you said.
      I have seen a few other people who have the black rev1 model also get n/a in most fields when using the diagnostic software. The 390ah* listed in the video title is just a simple total of what all the batteries together should’ve been. I do plan to run a actual capacity test on them to figure out their real remaining Ah.

    • @1aview
      @1aview Před 3 lety +1

      There's a couple software version I think 12.12 was the one i got to work with my batteries. I have a second version too maybe it will read yours correctly.

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  Před 3 lety

      Aye 12.12 is the only software version I’ve tried and I can find at the moment. I’ve heard there a older version but I’m yet to find it .

      Yeah I’d be interested in trying different version of the software is you have one. What versions do you have?
