Half or more of youtube gets it the other way round: yadda yadda yadda blather blab blab info blab blab yadda blather yadda yadda. Whereas here we get 99% INFO! • @Nosfermarki
      @Nosfermarki Před rokem +2

I watched this mostly because I did similar tests trying to find something that lasts and I was blown away by cerakote. I've seen some people say it turned their trim white/splotchy but I don't know if it was a reaction with the type of trim or if it wasn't applied correctly (if the trim was hot for example). For that reason I'd recommend testing in a hidden area before doing the whole car. I've used it on my Civic, an Elantra, and a GMC Acadia with excellent results. I actually just reapplied it on my Civic because it began to fade, but it did so just as evenly as when it faded originally. Plus it took almost exactly two YEARS to fade. I only use one wipe for my entire car so it's expensive per wipe, but not at a rate of 5 wipes a decade. I was worried about effectiveness after the remaining wipes sat in my garage for literal years, but the one I used worked just as well as when I bought it. Follow the instructions carefully and you'll be very happy with the results.

Cerakote crushed it on my 39 year old Volkswagen. Probably the first generation of cars to use black plastic cladding on the bumpers. I was using 303. Just didn’t last and would become hazy white-ish. Cerakote immediately restored as new look. Needed two coats, but plenty of wipes left over. Inexpensive too. This is a great comparison. I will use this stuff on my much newer vehicles. Thank you.

One thing I found that works extremely well, and doesn’t end up leaving that white look is Amsoil silicone spray. I have tried some cheap silicone spray from normal auto parts stores, and it’s performance was not very good.
The Amsoil silicone spray lasts a longs time. Only downside is it takes a while to apply. I’ve found it works best applied to a cloth, and wiping it on. Once applied though, you rarely need to reapply it to keep the deep black shiny look. I also apply it to rubber gaskets around doors, and windows. Also, you can spray it on rubber boots on your axles or tie rods to keep the rubber hydrated, and crack free.

I can do two vehicles with the cerakote kit. And the results are near permanent. Usually lasts several years. 303 is great for your interior trims as it does not leave residue and has high uv resistance. I'm not sure it was ever designed for restoration purposes and exterior use.

I don't claim to know either way, but it seems like if it has high UV resistance then it would be intended for exterior use (or both inside and outside) since the inside of the car gets comparatively little UV due to the windows and roof blocking the majority of UV rays coming into the vehicle. Not to say it gets none, but windows block something like 97% of UV.

Solvent wipe to remove dust and spray with a two part (2K) clear coat in a can from Eastwood, USC Spraymax, etc. Three light coats ten minutes apart. Thank you again for another amazing video. I appreciate how you give a summary on the application instructions. I have been a pretty serious diy detailer my entire life. I have used all the products in the video. Just like you say prepping the surface properly is imperative. I really like the Cerakote. It is very long lasting, gives a great look and does to plastic what a sealant does to paint. Only issue is it's not always consistent on all types of plastic. However I don't know if I would compare Cerakote to the rest. Cerakote is more like a wipe on K2 clear coat, in my opinion.
I was surprised by the 303 results. I have used 303 for years. My Father is a pilot. 303 was pretty much exclusive on vinyl and plastic interior of planes. Many from the 60's still looked great. I believe the secret is in "buffing it off" with a dry microfiber towel after a short setup period. There is something to it that really gives it a solid grip to the surface as well as evenly spreading the color. It's not long lasting in elements but for me its the most natural and clean/even looking when applied this way, especially on a dashboard. Also I have found 303 to not be harmful in the long run. Some others seemed to cause some kind of alteration to the surface. Meguires, for instance, left white gunk nearly impossible to remove from dimples of the plastic on a bumper.
Again thank you. I really appreciate the way you teach and inform with your videos.

Great video as always, I would just point out one thing for everyone who's planning to use Cerakote, Cerakote is great but guys remember one thing, make sure you are putting it on the plastic that's not painted, use it only on trims that are "pure plastic" so to speak, don't use it on the trim that might have clearcoat or something on it, like the shiny plastics under the hood most likely have some kind of clear coat, I made that mistake and messed entire engine bay up, I had to repaint everything. If you want to be safe use other stuff that Mr. Farm reviewed, they won't damage anything.

From reviews on Amazon I think Cerakote Is only good for older vehicles that have faded plastic. People applied Cerakote to their new cars and every one of them had issues with cracking, drying up uneven, and drying up white with streaks. I would recommend If you have a new car to use something like Chemical guys every other time you wash your car so you prevent the plastic trim from getting very faded since It's not a product that can harm your trim. Use Cerakote If you have very faded trim already, I think that's all It's good for. And make sure you test a spot first just like he mentioned because ceramic coatings can be a pain to remove, you'll need to sand It down.

I've got a 06 colorado with faded fender trim and front bumper and side mirrors. Do you think cerakote would work for this? Or would it ruin my trim? I figure 06 is old enough and faded enough to avoid those issues you mentioned but if you know better id rather ask haha

Me too. Been using it on the interior of my vehicles and my inflatable boat forever. Seems to last quite a while on the interior trim.

I was honestly shocked. I have a fairly new vehicle that I religiously wash and treat with the 303 and it lasts at minimum a month with a beautiful deep black gloss. I suppose once the plastic is highly porous it doesn't do as well.

Don't be disappointed. 303 I have used for many years too. It is just a different type of product than many of the ones tested here. 303 is a preservative. Its meant to keep the rubber supple and pliable over the years. With continued use, the rubber will stay in very good shape. Whereas these other products are meant to restore plastics that are already beaten. So yes 303 won't really help rubber or plastics in poor condition. So if your looking for just the gloss and the new look for an old car 303 won't be your best choice. But if you have a new car or newer car, and apply 303 often, in 10 yrs your rubber will still look the same and still be pliable. I hope I am making sense? Just different type of products for different type of uses. Also, what I like about 303 is if it gets on the paint or glass by accident, it comes off very easily. Many of these other products used especially the ceramic products are a PITA to get off paint and glass.

Cerakote sales go through the roof and it sells out on Amazon. Great review. Amazing performance by Cerakote. The amazon reviews are very mixed so I like how you suggested to be sure to test first.

It’s all about surface prep. My brother couldn’t get a “heavy duty” command hook to hold up his bath robe, while the smaller one I applied for myself has held up for 2 years. Our guy here did some thorough surface prep

@@berengerchristy6256 I fully agree. A lot of folks will blame a product when they're not willing to apply it correctly. So what happens in a sub par product that's more dummy proof usually becomes the crowd favorite. Goes to show you, it's better to have an idiot proof product than a good product if you just want sales.

Good Idea: Cerakote sales are through the roof
Bad Idea: Most of the sales are from professional car detail shops

I really appreciate the speed that you go through the introduction on your videos. Excellent editing. I was also hoping you would test a ceramic coating (and you did! ). I have found that using the ceramic coating on my plastics and the paint leaves them looking good for a long time. Perhaps if you tried this again, you could compare different ceramic coatings.

Video idea: test different types of nails for siding/holding up fence pickets. Test to see which one have the most strength, and hold up best against corrosion/rust.

Awesome. I went with the Cerakote. I was thinking about just replacing my mirrors on my 05 Ram 3500 because of the bad fading of the plastic on both, and along with the driver side mirror glass being cracked, rendering that mirror heater inoperable. However, with my little brother telling me he can just replace the cracked mirror glass for a lot less than the cost of the whole mirror assembly. So far, I'm only into this for only a little over $60(Cerakote and replacement mirror glass). Versus the $150ish for replacing both mirrors.
