    It's far more comparable to SMT and Persona than Pokemon. SMT did the whole creature collector subgenre before any of them.

    That was a great review dude!! I never thought of myself as a digimon fan, tho I did watch the first 3 seasons back when they came out, also not an anime person AND I don't really like turn based videogames. But lately I've been feeling the uncontrollable urge to consume digimon related stuff, came across this video and it was super informative so thank you so much! I don't think I'll love it but it's actually like %70 off on steam right now so what the hell ° U °

      @@Hynotama Yes, I did bought the game, specifically the Hackers Memories version for the Switch. The game is a real grind feast, but thankfully the exploit for the Switch makes it easier to deal with.
      All in all, I really enjoyed the game.

    • @Hynotama
      @Hynotama Před 3 měsíci

      @@GottaFistDemAll get 3 PlatinumNumemon and equip each of them with 3 Tactician USB. It gives ridiculously high amounts of EXP (because all those double EXP effects are stacking). You can get a mega digimon from level 1 to level 33 with a single battle, in an area where champion level digimon spawn. It far outstrips anything the farm exploit can give you.
      Also if you have it on Switch, you have both games.

    Digimon has a sort of power ceiling. There is a max evolutionary stage of growth. By japan terminology There are 2 baby stages, Child, Adult, Perfect, and Ultimate. For reference these correspond to Baby 1(Botamon), Baby 2(Koromon), Child(Agumon), Adult(Greymon), Perfect, (Metal Greymon), Ultimate (WarGreymon). Their are "SuperUltimates" Which are basically ultimate's combined from two or more individual ultimate digimon or comprises of an Ultimate powered up by unnatural means. Devimon was an Adult stage but at that point in Digimon Adventure (The anime) Some perfects were already introduced and fought against (Andromon, Monzaemon). Devimon was a threat because he amped himself unnaturally without evolving. He just grew giant but it made him in the range of power comparable to perfect stage. Infermon(the red and white spider) from the our war game movie(The one with omegamon (NOT OMNIMON bs name-change by the way Alphamon and the royal knights don't approve) was a perfect stage and became an actual threat when he evolved into diablomon. War greymon and Metal Garurumon only lost before jogressing (Joint progressing) into Omegamon was because Diablomon duplicated into millions of copies. And Omegamon killed all of those in seconds so yeah digimon get pretty op. But Royal nights and other high level factions comprising of Ultimate's tend to be the power ceiling in any digimon setting.

    You can watch some seasons of Digimon on Crunchyroll, at least in my country! If you don't mind doing it less legally, you could try Kissanime. I'm a long-time Digimon fan, and Cyber Sleuth actually reignited my interest in the fandom after I played it. I loved the story and didn;t mind the large amounts of text at all, I'm a big visual novel fan, after all. My favourite thing about the gameplay was digivolving the heck out of everything. Another bonus was that my favourite Digimon got to shine in the story, even if he was a villain yet again. Really advise you to play Hacker's Memory, it's a great addition to the story and has moved me to tears!

    Great review.
    On Digimon being fluid, after playing the game myself, i think i have to disagree a bit, cause there are certain digimon that I couldn’t get because i converted the wrong baby, for example, Wanyamon or Koromon dont have any lines connecting to Stingmon, then again im not sure, they might.
    Also its a bit hard to talk about digimon or any monster catching/raising games without even mentioning Pokemon. I really think that Digimon World 1 on ps1 was the only “true” digimon game, its very much like a virtual pet, it can get super annoying and tedious, but its an experience lol

    One thing to mention about digimon when it comes to level is the only real time they matter is for digivolutions. In battle, it's more about stats, attacks, and strategy rather than if you are over or under leveled. This is why I love digimon. You need to think and use more strategy about how you "raise" your digimon, what you digivolve it into, and what attacks and stats you put into them for a battle rather than just level them up higher than your opponent. Now, to be fair, there are some game breaking/over powered attacks you can get but those come later in the game and are still hard to get.

    "The female characters are just there to be sexualized"
    Nokia drives the plot forward just as much as the main character
    Mirei manages the digilab in a very similar way to Igor does with the velvet room in Persona
    Yuuko has direct ties to one of the main villains and antagonistic forces the game
    I get that the designs are... Not for everyone, but to say that the female characters are just there to be sexualized is pretty reductive.
